Good simple capper but can break bottles
    Review by Alexanderon 25/09/2017
I bought this capper a few years ago, it worked fine for that period but I've recently upgraded to a bench capper as it started cracking the necks of the bottles rendering them useless, I suspect this this is due to wear and tear and the movement/distortion of parts...It's fine as a starting point but you'd be much better investing in a bench capper.

    Needs good bottles
    Review by Jameson 05/09/2016
Worked fine on my first test with a dry bottle but was skiddy (if that is a word) on wet ones. That is bottles ready to be bottled. It worked eventually but not with full confidence. I will probably buy the table top capper - if I cannot find the one I boughrt 30 yrs ago. Same principle as my first which I had to hit confidentally with a 4lb sledge hammer but not as brutal.

    Works so far
    Review by Daveon 27/08/2015
Other reviewers have mentioned it's tendency to break. It's been fine for me so far (500ish bottles), but does feel like it may break at som point. But for the price, it's fine!

    Ideal Crown Capper
    Review by Jasonon 17/08/2015
While at first the plastic feel to this crown capper may put you off, don't be. This is lightweight and very sturdy. And absolute dream when I was capping off my last batch of 5 gallons!

    Didn't last for long
    Review by SpaceLabon 04/05/2015
I have had exactly the same problems with this capper as Theory900 (see below). Worked fine for the first 120 or so bottles ...

    Not durable enough
    Review by Theory900on 13/04/2015
Started off ok, but I found that it was getting more and more difficult to align the caps properly, then it chopped the tops off a couple of bottles, then it wouldn't put the caps on at all.
On further inspection it turned out that the semi circular metal collars that fit below the shoulder of the top of the bottle had bent, which explained the recent failures and rendered it useless.

RESPONSE FROM BREWUK - Sorry to hear about your issues. Please contact customer services and we'll get this sorted for you.

recycled bottles can be used for homebrew with this capper
    Review by klekoon 02/12/2013
You can recycle the bottles from shop-bought beer for your own home brew with a bottle-capper like this. No need to buy bottles.

This one feels a little breakable but I haven't broken it yet.

Easy too use, great for the price
    Review by Oliveron 20/11/2013
This is simple to use and just works to cap bottles. I would note that because it's plastic after a while it does start to feel like parts of it are bending out of shape a bit... But it's still going so I guess I cannot complain!

Watch out for the bottles- Some have a different sized neck and those can be a pain to cap with this, but in my experience it's been able to cap anything I've thrown at it... some just took more effort than others!

    So far, so good
    Review by Michaelon 04/03/2013
The device does exactly what you'd expect. I've had a couple of mishaps but it could have been me rushing and given the caps are about 2p each, I didn't mind.
It does leave a small circular indentation in the caps. Personally it doesn't bother me but you could try Speccy's idea below if it would bother you.

Worked well until it broke :(
    Review by jimmyon 24/02/2013
I bottled four batches of beer with this capper with no problem. But on my fifth batch, the capper started to twist on the bottle making capping difficult. On my sixth batch the capper snapped the neck off the bottle as it had gradually bent itself out of shape. This left me with no option but to bottle the rest of that batch in plastic bottles and the capper is now in the bin. Not bad for the money but my one didn't last long :(

Top tip! A 2p coin twixt cap and capper avoids that annoying circular indentation.

I just bottled 36 pint's of St Peter's Golden Ale with ease using this great little capper. It look's pretty sturdy considering the low price so I'm more than happy with my purchase.

I have used this tool to put crown caps on a variety of recycled beer bottles, so far 100% success rate. Easy to use and reasonably priced.

    Dead Simple
    Review by tomparkeson 25/09/2012
This is one of the cheaper options for bottle capping tools, and it does exactly what you'd need it to - it puts caps on your bottles! It's dead simple to use - I'd put the bottles on a towel or something, not directly on the workbench, as otherwise you may find you slip and end up with beer everywhere! I thankfully had a helper to hold the bottles while I clamped down the caps, but it's very simple. As other reviewers have said, it doesn't work particularly well with Wychwood bottles - this is not a complaint, I only had two of these out of my whole collection so it wasn't a problem. I'd definitely recommend this tool if you're looking for an inexpensive addition to your home brewery.

    Does Exactly What You'd Expect
    Review by Ben Mon 27/05/2012
This capper is dead simple to use and does exactly what it says on the tin - it caps bottles! The whole affair is a quick one man job.

If you're reusing commercial beer bottles I'd advise doing a test cap on each "brand" prior to trying to to use it to to bottle your brew, just in case the neck's an unusual size. Fortunately I've found that pre-used caps, so long as they're not bent out of shape, can be used for test purposes, so you don't have to worry about wastage!

If you don't have any problems building up a supply of empty glass bottles this and a bag of caps is a good, cheap investment to to add to your bottling options.

Easy to use in most cases
    Review by MattSon 14/04/2012
Just capped my first ever batch of homebrew, and for the most part this device made it a breeze. As with Vires's review, I found that it leaves a little circular indentation in the center of the cap, though perhaps that's just me putting too much oomph into it.

The one downside I found is that I was reusing commercial beer bottles, and the shape of the neck of the bottle matters: specifically, Wychwood Brewery beer bottles are shaped such that it's VERY difficult (though not impossible) for the jaws of the capper to grip the bottle neck. Only discovered this after siphoning, and had no other sterilised bottles to replace them with, so had to make it work!

RESPONSE FROM BREWUK - You need a bench capper for the Wychwood bottles.

    Straightforward to use
    Review by Vireson 06/01/2012
This works well - just put the cap to the magnet and then place over the bottle and pull down. I found it leaves a little circle indentation on the caps, which could be my technique. Doesn't seem to have any ill effect though.

    Easy to use
    Review by Steveon 28/03/2011
I found this capper easy to use and worked well with most of the bottles I use. Some of my bottles have a round shaped neck which makes the capper difficult use.

    Fantastic product
    Review by mikehawleyon 11/10/2009
Very easy to use. Crown cap attaches to the magnet, place ontop of the bottle and pull the handles down to horizontal. Makes bottling/capping a one person job!
