    Good value but needs time
    Review by kevinon 20/05/2015
As other have said this is a great ale (well for my palate), which represents good value for money. I used mini kegs and have to say the taste was better the longer after second fermentation that the keg was opened. I'd definitely make this one in advance next time and leave it so I wasn't rushing to drink it. This kit required more sugar than brews so far in my limited experience but it definitely held a good flavor and was stronger than other I've done

    Scottish Heavy
    Review by thegreatbeaston 17/01/2014
I brewed this kit at the same time as brewing the apparently 'amazing' Woodforde's Wherry. I still have some Wherry left but the the Heavy is all gone. A matter of taste probably, but I love this stuff. It is strong, malty and easy to brew (and drink). Thanks to this stuff I was asleep by 6pm on Christmas day. After three weeks in bottles it began to develop a more complex flavour (slightly reminiscent of fennel) but was delicious from the off. Used straight brewing sugar in primary. 2 weeks. Then light DME with some sugar for bottling. Yum. Can't wait to do more of this. 30p a pint!

    Review by Peaton 13/09/2012
I have used this kit a few times now, and the result is consistently very good ale. Suitable for the Scottish palate ie. smooth and not too bitter.

    Review by heavydrinkeron 24/03/2012
I brewed this as my 2nd homebrew. i added 500g of spray malt aswell as 1kg of sugar and it gave it a great body and made it 6.5-7% which i could really feel after a couple. definately will brew it again

Tastes better the longer you let it stand
    Review by Mark Dunnon 07/01/2011
I recomend that you leave this ale in a pressure barrel to stand for a couple of months to get a better taste, as it improves with time.
It is drinkable, but as Tony Davis said in an earlier review its not a session ale. Overall good for the price and well worth getting if you are on a budget.

    Excellent ale for the price
    Review by Raveboyon 08/12/2010
Had not done home brew for about 10 years so I bought this cheap one to start. Was easy to make and I used dark sugar to kick off the brew. I also added a bag of fuggle hops as well to give it a bit more taste. It bottled and cleared really easily and after about a month tasted really good with great carbonation. Nice dark colour and reasonable taste, it gets better the longer you leave it.

    Good
    Review by Hammy1801on 30/09/2010
Very nice heavy, sparkling, tasty and strong. Word of warning though it clears very fast in bottles but still needs extra time to finally settle (3 weeks) once settled though, a genuine heid wrecker ;-)

For 8 quid this is great, when i brewed it i didn't use much sugar so i got a weak heavy. still tasted proper though! I will go back to this and it clears pretty quick.

    good value
    Review by Tony davison 06/09/2009
For a cheap kit that is strong this one fits the bill. Good to clear and not too hoppy, just right. Not a session ale but one to crack in to when you do really need a beer.
