First ClassNo-one told me this stinks in the making..rotten egg smell, hydrogen sulphide. I stook it in a cupboard and thought I needed to throw it away at first. The smell goes away completely when bottled. I was grateful for the scrolled down instructions at BrewUK as it told me to add one and half Kg of sugar. The inside label on the can was glued at the important bit obliterating three words of very sentence.
I used ordinary table sugar as I have found normal sugar does not upset my fragile stomach, to put it mildly. This may be a coincidence!. However,I boil the sugar and 8 pints of water for 20 minutes which I'm told "inverts" the sugar aiding quicker fermentation as the yeast does not need to produce an enzyme to get to the sugar. I read, rightly or wrongly that inverting the sugar means you need 25% more sugar. Not sure this is correct. The result was very strong lager. I used slightly different amounts of sugar for each bottle, thinking I could pick the best. In the event, I drunk it far too early and loved every bottle individually enough to propose marriage to each one looking left and right and behind in case I would be overheard. I shall not buy cans of lager again or go to the pub and pay for lager.
I was worried making lager for the first time as I am new to beer brewing. No need. This is great. far better than I could ever dream.
I get 5p for this review , I am either cheap and can be bought for 5p or I'm telling you the truth as I see it. :-) -
Needs to be left for a long timeAfter reading the reviews I brewed this kit in February ready for the summer. Being impatient I tried it a few times since then and it finally tastes good and not like yeast and priming sugar. Good value kit if you have room and spare bottles to leave it in the garage for a couple of months.
