I just received my Wyeast smack-pack, and it appears to be puffed up already. Is this an indicator that it has already been activated?

    well pleased
    Review by Stevenon 27/09/2016
Made a starter and was obvious that the Yeast was working as soon as the wort hit it
Vigorous fermentation immediately and it was no surprise that it had blown the trap out by the morning get
Glad I had my new fermenter otherwise I' my sure it would have blown the lid off a bucket

    Didn't activate
    Review by Mileson 09/09/2016
I've used these yeast before with great effect, this time however activated the yeast and slight swelling occured, I then added it to my Proper Job extact but after 3 days no sign of fermentation? Added a Safele and the fermentation started off, don't know if it was a bad batch or not?

Not sure the product was in the best condition
    Review by Steveon 03/02/2016
I have used these yeasts many times in the past and never had any problems but this time it has not been such a great experience. When I got the product the Smack Pack was slightly bloated, but never having used this strain before I thought it may have been a specific trait. Anyway when I came to use it, I gave it the usual almighty smack, had a good old prod to make sure the pouch had ruptured but I was not able to determine this as by now the smack Pack was too swollen. Anyway cut a long story short, the pouch had not ruptured so I poured in the main liquid, cut open the pouch and poured that in as well. The beer fermented. I have a couple of weeks before I can say what the final outcome is... I am sure it will be OK

Response from brewuk - sorry about this Stephen. If its fermented then I'm sure it will be fine but email us when you next order and we'll include a free replacement.

    Nice yeast
    Review by Nickon 15/05/2014
Used this with Galaxy and Wai-ti to one of Greg's recipes. Went off like a rocket so I advise having lots of headspace. The beer tastes good too!

A great yeast in a great pack
    Review by Oliveron 20/08/2013
I got this yeast with the At Austell Proper Job extract kit and did not regret spending the extra. The activator pack is easy to use to activate the yeast and within an hour of adding the yeast the beer was creeping up and touching the lid of the fermentor (a good 2 inches!)

I will most definitely use this strain again

    Must have
    Review by Peteron 19/09/2011
I have used this for a best bitter trying to catch the taste of Beers I knew years ago. I dont know if I got close but it makes a stunning pint. I used it with a simple one can kit. Its slow to clear in the FV but was clear in about a week in the keg. I am just making some more using the same and I think that I will be making a lot more. :)
