100%Great kit
Review by Nobby on
My second brew of this great ale. Used brewing sugar this time round for priming the pressure barrel rather than granular sugar. Cleared much better, better carbonisation and great taste. Easy impressive results recommend. -
100%Consistently good results
Review by James on
The first kit I ever did, and one I return to on a regular basis. Result is always a high quality beer. Great kit for tweaking as well (DME, dry hopping, different volumes etc). Highly recommended.

100%Basically, Tibute
Review by Beardy Meaner on
Second time I've brewed this kit. It's not quite ready yet, but if you're a fan of *real* Tribute, as sold in Cornwall (which is one of the best beers I've ever had) by the St Austell brewery, this is certainly the closest I've ever managed to produce. I swear, if I could drink this rather than eat, I would. -
100%As good as the pub
Review by Alex on
I have lost count of how many Wherry kits I have made but it is north of ten and probably south of twenty. The reason I keep returning to Woodforde's Wherry is that I have never had an issue with a single kit - they have just produced a consistent and quality beer on each occasion. Like others, I add slightly less water and I prime my barrel(s) to achieve a good head; I have overdone this on occasion with the result that pouring a pint can require patience (sadly something I lack) but the result is always exceptional. There is much to be said for waiting 2/3 weeks after barelling before drinking but I find it essential to sample regularly to ensure quality control - who wouldn't! -
100%A good session beer
Review by Dave on
Been using Wherry kits for some years now and never had a bad one. Best in a keg but I also bottle it in reusable 1 litre plastic bottles which we take when sailing (when on anchor or in harbour). A good economic way of entertaining visitors and always popular.
Easy to brew as long as one cleans everything properly before hand. A lot quicker to prepare in a keg though so worth investing in one (or more) -
100%The House Brew.
Review by Allen on
Since I returned to Home Brewing after a very long break , I have made this kit up so many times I have lost count, having had kits from BrewUK , and several kits supplied by my patrons, i.e. Sons and Son-in-law's, who all tell me it's the best drop of ale they have ever tasted. I have though found that it turns out best if I do a double fermentation, before barreling it up and then leaving it for at least ten days to completely settle and clear to a really good sparkling draft ale. -

This kit produces a nice bitter, though sometimes is remains a little cloudy, but taste good to the end. -
80%A great "house beer" kit
Review by David on
I have made about 10 of these kits, all of them have turned out well. About 5 brews in I tried to make improvements by using liquid yeasts instead of the standard packet that comes with the kit, adding some steeped grains (crystal and chocolate malt) and extra hops both at the time of making and as a dry-hop addition after fermentation. I also added some maltodextrose to improve the head and mouthfeel. It is very good in the basic kit format but once you add your own refinements to suit your own personal tastes it can be truly wonderful. It also pays to take your time, let it have 3 weeks in the fermenter and then rack it off the yeast and let it lie for another 2 or 3 weeks in a barrel as a secondary fermentation. I also think controlling the fermentation temperature helps - around 18C I think is ideal.
Using the same kit over a period of time and adding experimental additional steps is a great way to learn and improve your brewing skills. This is an ideal kit to do it with.
I have awarded 4 stars but with the extra steps it gets 5 stars. -
100%A great first attempt at homebrew
Review by Andy on
This was my first kit that I tried and it got me hooked. It was very easy to make and was very easy to drink after 4 weeks in the bottle. I got nowhere near 4.5%, but at 3.8% it was a great session beer. The only problem was it didn't last too long before it had all been drunk. -

Great tasting beer. Another winner from Woodforde's!... -
100%great homebrewed bitter
Review by Neil on
This is a great bitter, just.as good as the pub bitter at a fraction of the cost, leave it a bit longer than it says and the taste improves even more, like mine die, what more can I say, have a go yourself and see what you think, nothing to loose -
100%Great Bitter
Review by Neil on
Great tasting beer, just as good if not better than getting it in the pub, Much cheaper as well, what more could you want -
100%Very drinkable especially when tweaked
Review by Roland on
I have made this kit twice now, once as per the instructions and the second time using the Wherry tweak recipe (search forum). I didn't think that the tweaked recipe would make all that much differance asnot much more is added. Well I was wrong! It does give a more rounded result. It's a great kit on its own, but even better when you use the wherry tweak recipe. Enjoy! -
80%Good but not quite there
Review by ed on
I have brewed a few of these kits because it is a good, reliable, drinkable pint, then try others in between to try for that holy grail the ideal kit. I have since moved on to Nelsons revenge, I find it suits my taste better, but we are all different. I certainly wouldn't say anything against Wherry -
100%Simple to use and very drinkable!...
Review by Malster on
Living in France I missed having a proper bitter. I bought this with the kit and it's very simple to use. I wasn't disappointed. A real taste of home (east anglia). This has a traditional keg flavour and tastes great!...everyone who has tried it liked it a lot. I'll be brewing this on a regular basis. Time to place another order I think!... -
100%Excellent kit
Review by Turts on
The Woodforde's Wherry kit has become a staple brew for me. It's easy to put together as there is no sugar needed (two cans of liquid malt are supplied), it tastes fantastic as is if you brew to instructions and it lends itself well to tweaking slightly (a quick search on the forum will give many variations on this theme).
All in all a top kit, highly recommended!
Cheers

100%Marvellous Beer !
Review by Christopher on
I have been brewing kits for about a year and a half now and thought I would give this a try. One of the simplest - no added hops, so I had my doubts. Took about a week longer than I expected to become stable and then I barreled it. 2 weeks later it tastes great and is pretty clear - not totally, but clear enough. No need to be too picky on that. A lovely simple bitter style beer and not too bitter. I shall definitely brew this again. -
100%A wherry good brew
Review by Graham on
I have brewed Woodforde's wherry on many occasions. It takes a while to clear (nothing that can't be cured by the addition of Irish moss 10 minutes b fore the end of boil) it is worth waiting for it to clear because it is then that it tastes best. On one occasion, with out Irish moss it took three months but was worth the wait. -

Review by Allen on
I have in the past 6 months returned to home brewing after a break of 39 years. How did this come about ,well my wife bought me a Wherry kit for my birthday, mainly to shut me up from complaining about the price of beer in our local pub. So I decided to make the kit up but first had to buy all new gear, followed all the instructions and lo and behold I had some of the finest home brew I have ever tasted, so impressed I even invited my son's to try it out as they are all real ale devotees. They were impressed.
Since then (August 2015) ,I have not stopped brewing, and strangely enough I see a lot more of my lads, I can only put it down to them becoming hooked on Wherry -
100%What a beer!

I have gone through a dozen or so kits, every time a winner. I have started to add a couple of ounces of sugar at the start and end up with a 6% brew.
I think this kit takes some beating will certainly continue with it -

Have been brewing Wherry for about 10 years. One of my perennial favourites. You can't go wrong with it. -
100%Woodforde's Wherry 40 pint
Review by Dave on
This is the third successive time I have purchased this product and it will not be the last. As another reviewer put it, it is a beer that you need to have a barrel of in stock at all times, as indeed I do. I am experimenting with other beers but the ease of making this outstanding product and the continual success rate of each brew, the flavor, the clarity and sparkle, make it a difficult decision to order anything else.
Any way I have purchased another beginners kit containing Woodforde's Wherry for my son for this Christmas.
I hope this helps with your decision as to whether it is worth spending your money on.

100%Buy this brew kit, you will not be disapointed.
Review by Stew the brew on
The Wherry is the only brew kit that I have continuously bought since starting to home brew.
The Wherry can go toe to toe with any commercially brewed beer out there. This is a bargain basement priced kit that wipes the floor with the more expensive added hops and oak chip brigade.
It is the perfect session beer, light, hoppy, perfectly balanced.
Buy it brew it drink it.

100%It's beutiful!
Review by Meredith on
I've given this 5 stars based on pure reliability and drink ability and the fact that no matter how many different other kits I try I return to this old favourite again and again. I've played with this kit dry hopping lots of different hops from Wakatu to additions of more trad Fuggles and Goldings and it always turns out great. As a straight kit its such a great session beer that's so easy to get right, you just have to give it a go....and another and another. A classic that doesn't get dull and works great in a keg or left to mature in a bottle.... A real Norfolk Classic -
100%Woodfords Wherry
Review by Jon33 on
I have ordered the same product again despite the wide appetising range on offer because the last brew was just brilliant. As a real ale connoisseur I was initially impressed that the ingredients contained only malt extract and that no "1kg of sugar to be added to make up the ingredients" was required ( a sign of quality) I went on to follow the simple instructions using just 6 pints of boiling water ie two kitchen kettles full (none of this brewing 5 gallons with a heating element creating real rain from the garage roof, business). I added cold water and yeast and waited, for 1 week then barrelled and did add 85 grams of sugar for secondary fermentation. Put in cold garage and waited two weeks, then I tried it............................................................................came out like fire extinguisher 3/4 froth. I waited for froth to go down to enable at least 1/2 pint of drinkable. Crystal clear, dark brown with sparkling life right down to bottom of glass. A true real ale at home and 39 pints to go! unbelievable!!. Subsequent pints had same effervescence colour flavour and quality of a true draught pint.
As for the Co2 cylinder included, might as well chuck in bin as unable to compete with fire hydrant pressures from barrel. Any way am off to coastal beer festival next an will be surprised if if doesn't match up. Will probably order again. -

Review by roy on
This really is a lovely drink, not too hoppy, like some East Anglia brews. The kit is uncannily like the pub product. I tried a few other kits a few months ago, but that just re-affirmed my faith in Wherry. I use a 5 gallon pressure barrel.
Do try it, you won't be disappointed. -

Review by Paul on
I first started to brew from a beer kit in the 1980's! and my partner decided to get me a kit for my 50th :-]. I left it in a cuboard for quiet a while until she prompted me to get a brew going.
I also had one of the starter kits.
It was so good that I have now completed three of the Woodfoord kits.Woodford Wherry being the first.Just follow the intructions and make sure all of the equipment is clean and you will have no problems.
I have also started to buy bottled water[cheap stuff] so that there is no other added tast from the water.I also only add a 1/4 of a tespoon of sugar to the bottle when bottling the beer.
after the initial warm room conditioning leave the bottles in a cool place for a mimimum of 2 to 3 weeks.Don't be tempted to drink it before this :-] as the beer gets better with age . Enjoy! -

Review by Debbie on
My husband and I have lived in Cyprus for the past 2 years and really enjoy it. The only thing my husband missed was good British real ale. So I bought the Wherry and it has just finished, and I have to say, I now have a very happy hubby. He is planning to buy more when he is in the UK next. The only problem I see is that he will need a larger luggage allowance when he comes back to Cyprus. -

Absolutely no problems. I have used Woodfordes for many years and have always been delighted both with the service supplied and the quality of the final product. I would recommend them to anyone intending to venture into the realms of Home-Brew.

Maybe I had a dude kit or made it wrong, but this isn't the kit for me. I don't think it tastes bad, it's just not a taste for me, and I won't be brewing it again. -

Review by Jon on
Been making this for a few months now and my only reservation is the yeast. It doesn't seem to settle firmly in the bottle and is easily disturbed. However I also make Coopers Aussie lager and that yeast enables me to pour the whole bottle so I split the yeast and use it for the Wherry also. Result very little waste. -

It's my favorite of all the brewpacks I've tried so far, with a fresreshingly light taste and also a full body. This one never seems to stick around long and I seem to order this one and a new beer together just in case the new beer I'm trying isn't to my taste, then I have a quality back up. -
100%Excellent Stuff!!
Review by Mark N on
This was my third brew since starting this new hobby in June.
And compared to the other two kits (not Woodfordes - they needed extra sugar and so were cheaper!), I was stunned by the result. No hint of "homebrew aftertaste" - I've even had friends asking me if I had really brewed this myself, or just bought a barrel from a friendly local brewer...... And they were serious!
This will definitely become a regular in my barrel (well worth the extra few pounds on top of a cheaper kit) - a lovely ale that is quite tangy with lemony hints and beautifully balanced hops. So very refreshing in the summer too. -

Review by DR Greg on
I agree with most of the reviews here that this kit makes top notch beer that tastes great. Bottled it rather than kegged it and after 4 weeks (1 week in airing cupboard, 3 in utility room) it is crystal clear. The only problem is that the yeast pellet is very loose, you either leave a couple of swallows in the bottle or drink a cloudy pint. Any advice on that would be welcome. -

I began with Wherry when it came with my starter kit. It was a great place to start and is an incredibly drinkable brew but I have thoroughly enjoyed exploring others. Some people choose to dry hop it - a good idea if you want to add some extra character.
A good solid pint which is a doddle to brew. I have almost convinced myself to order another... -

I'm on my fourth barrel of this brew and it is without doubt my favourite kit from B-UK. Always produces a good pint, sometimes takes a while to get going and sometimes needs a while in the barrel, but never had a duffo yet. Each time I order, I buy a new kit to experiment AND one of these as the bench mark. Top beer, a doddle to make and best in class price wise. -

Review by Saxon on
I came back to home brewing after about ten years and bought a new kit – bin, barrel, etc, and Woodforde's Wherry was part of that. My first brew was excellent, better than any I'd made in the past – a beer that could stand alongside Hen or Tribute or Bishops Finger, bright, good head and a fresh full flavour with a satisfying after taste. I've brewed seven barrelfulls so far and every one excellent. I shall no doubt be brewing other beers, but I know I'll come back to Wherry. -

I've been brewing for over 3 years now and have tried all the kits from Woodfordes, with Wherry featuring numerous times. I can't really fault these guys, whether in barrel or bottles, these kits have never failed to impress. Even one of my friends who has always previously been brewing full mash recipes has now been converted to the Woodforde kits. Easy to use with pleasing results. -

I can't fault it. My father sampled some and commented that it tasted just like old pub beer, it seemed to make him quite nostalgic. -

Got the Wherrys kit for my birthday (26/1/13). Drunk half it by 21/2/13 -that's only three weeks after starting it. Crystal clear. Brother in law didn't realise it was homebrew until I told him. Was testing it (drinking) 2 - 3 days after putting it in pressure barrel. Slightly cloudy at that stage but after about a week - crystal clear. Just bought second kit. Should be ready for Easter. -

Hard to fault my first attempt , the keg produced to something akin to a pint pulled from a pub , even father in law could not fault it. The bottled half of the batch is a little yeasty but that may be down to my inexperience . Overall sets the standard ( 3 different kits now all good) -

Second time I've bought this kit, it was my first ever time brewing the first time and was easy as pie.
Tastes delicious, so much so that my wife can even drink it with a dash of lemonade. The taste isn't too heavy like some dark ales, just right.
Definitely tastes better the longer you leave it though! -

I have stocked up on kit so that I can make the best of this brew by allowing it to condition (whilst drinking a earlier brew).
I "tested" half of my first 40 pints before I should have but it was still an exceptional brew!

Review by Bitter Man on
This was my second brew, the first being a disastrous attempt a couple of years ago that turned to vinegar and almost put me off for life. But with the Wherry I've hit the jackpot - a complex, caramelly, mouth-filling pint that's not far off my favourite tipple of them all, Bath Ales Gem.
After reading other reviewers' advice, and also scrutinizing the forum, I did the following: topped up to 21 litres rather than 23; left the FV under the stairs for 14 days; primed my barrel with 85g of granulated sugar simmered for a few mins in a little water; siphoned the brew in on top (making an utter hash of it - beer everywhere); immediately transferred half to bottles using a Little Bottler; put it all back under the stairs for 7 days to fizz up; and finally moved it to the garage to condition.
It's been in the garage for about two-and-a-half weeks, and has now cleared and tastes amazing. Unfortunately, thanks to over-enthusiastic 'sampling' along the way, the barrel's already virtually empty (though still pressured up despite no extra CO2 added). Got a few bottles left that I'll keep to see how it matures. At least, that's the plan... -
100%A wonderfull tasting bitter
Review by guzzler on
The Woodforde's Wherry bitter is a fantastic beer I recommend anybody to brew this. It has a nice caramel taste and then a pleasant bitter aftertaste. May I recommend making it up to 20 litres about 35 pints. Yes you get less beer but you get a 4.8% beer and more body well worth it. Its been in the barrel now for a month and have my pint beside me. Its velvet smooth I gave my Dad and freinds some not telling them its home brew and they loved it. When I told them I made it they did not believe me. Its on par if not better then beer in a pub. But im not paying the best part of £3 a pint for it. Have already got some more in the F.V -
100%Beautiful!
Review by tomparkes on
Got this as part of my starter kit, and it's been conditioning in the barrel for almost two weeks. I've snuck a couple of cheeky glasses to make sure everything is going to plan, and it really is a decent drop. Friends and family have described it as "smooth" and "better than a lot of beers you are served in a pub".
I took the advice of a number of users on the excellent forum here and brewed this to 21 litres, instead of the recommended 23 litres. This gives the brew a bit more body and raises the ABV a little. I also left it in the FV for 14 days, and conditioned in the barrel for a further 14. I suggest you read this before having a go - http://www.brewuk.co.uk/forum/topic/disc-new-brewers-faq-brewing-your-first-beer-kit
I had no previous experience and have ended up with a barrel full of pub quality beer! Well worth a shot - lovely brew. Now on to extract brewing, for me... -

I got this beer with a brew kit my Wife bought me for Christmas. It was simple to make with clear instructions. As a Real Ale fan I was very impressed with it. It was drinkable within a couple of weeks (I couldn't wait), and just improved with age. I have now tried quite a few kits, but always have a Wherry on the go as it is so reliable. -

I have just tasted the first bottle of my wherry brew, this was my fifth kit and I couldnt resist the fabled brew.
I made the kit short and added 250g of DME then dry hopped with Amarillo- fantastic result.

100%Best starter kit in fact one of the best kits!
Review by Colinwirral on
This was my first homebrew for over thirty years. I wish I'd tried a bit earlier, kits have come a long way since my early trials. This kit was matured in a barrel closely following all the instructions that came with the Youngs kit. On placing in the barrel I couldn't resist a taste and was pleasantly surprised. after 4 weeks it was even better but after 6 weeks it was superb! Everyone who tried this brew was not told 'til later that it was homebrew. No one guessed, in fact when offered a choice of bottles they all said no I'll stick to this. Even after telling them what it was! Now they'all talking about buying the kit. -
80%Old Speckled Hen
Review by Chris on
If you like Old Speckled Hen then this beer is for you. It could almost be called a clone and I was very pleased with the result. I am giving it 4/5 because I prefer a more fully rounded beer with more body than this brew has to offer, but you could pull that from a pub pump and I would believe it was from a leading brewery! -
100%Cracking pint! Don't hesitate to give it a go........
Review by Simon on
I'm sitting on my sofa right now enjoying a pint of this fantastic beer. Whether you are new to brewing or an old hand I'd thoroughly recommend giving this one a go. It really is top notch pub quality ale, simple as that! This is my second batch and it certainly won't be my last. It went down a treat at the Jubilee Street party this weekend and without exception was loved by everyone who tried it. I do my first fermentation on the dining room table (my wife eventually relented) and the secondary in my brick outbuilding which is always relatively cool. The first brew took about 3 weeks to clear and this time it was crystal (and I mean crystal) clear in 2 weeks which I am still amazed by. The only way I deviate from the instructions is by allowing 9 or 10 days for the first fermentation before barrelling. I also thoroughly recommend Brew UK, I have placed a number of orders with them now and have received excellent service and speedy delivery every time. Go for it! -

Review by Lisa on
Absolutely superb.
I have not made any beer for over 20 years and bought the kit as a quick way back into the 'hobby' as I am now living in Germany, surounded by lager type beers which I have never like. My goodness, how much things have moved on. This kit produces better beer than you can find in many pubs with almost no effort.
It is also amazingly fast. Mine took 4 days to ferment, very vigorous at first and totally complete by day 4, and then it was almost clear a week later. After 2 1/2 weeks it is almost perfect.
It even seems to bel improving still with a bit more maturing. -

100%Delicious fruity bitter, with no fuss
Review by AQH on
After a 20 year brewing hiatus, I decided to deprive the chancellor and start making my own beer and wine. I tried my first pint last night only a week after bottling. Truly superb fruity bitter with no 'yeasty' taste that I remember from my past brewing experiences. I expect that it will improve with time and be an even nicer tope. -

Review by Hamstergbert on
Another Wherry bitter kit, supplied with the rocket-propelled efficient rapidity we have all come to expect from BrewUK.
Apart from the odd foray into Magnum cider kits seems these days that all the Woodforde's kits are firmly favourites in the Hamstergbert barrels. Almost to the exclusion of any others, and quite frankly I am probably about to give up using any different ones.
The Wherry is always deeply satisfying and enjoyable as part of my Wherry-Nog-Wherry-Admirals-Nelsons-Wherry cycle. Piece of cake to brew (although I have yet to see any of them reach the end of first fermentation in less than a fortnight or even longer) and certainly with a floating pipe barrel tap, reasonably quick to clear.
However, very, very difficult to leave more than a few weeks after initial clearance before broaching - it is just too damned nice! -
100%As Good as the Pub!

This beer is just fantastic. I tend to have it cooled in the fridge and to me it is as good as Samuel Adams which is one of my favourite beers. Just make sure you have plenty of bottles as this makes a lot! -
100%can't go wrong with a Woodforde's kit
Review by Alexander on
Sometimes if the temperature of your beer during brewing is a little too high, or a little too low, or you transfer the beer to the barrel a bit too early or too late, or if any number of other things are not perfect, a batch of home-brew can turn out tasting a bit like... well, home-brew. If you've tried one or two batches of other beer kits and they haven't quite come out as well as beers you get in the pub, try this. I don't know how they've done it, but somehow this seems to be an idiot-proof kit that cannot go wrong. If you'll succeed in making beer that's better than supermarket beer with any kit, you'll succeed with a Woodforde's kit. The same applies to their other kits. Oh, and one last thing: I'd recommend leaving it in the barrel (for secondary fermentation) for six weeks rather than four as it says in the instructions, just to be on the safe side. But I'd recommend that with any kit made by any brewery. When it's ready, it should be clear enough to read text through. -

I'm sorry I cannot rate the beer as it wasnt for me. Our friend was 40 and likes brewing his own beer and we thought what a great present. I ordered it on the Tuesday and it arrived on the Thursday ready for us to give him at the weeekend. When he opened it he was so pleased and had said it was the best one he had used before. I'll let you know when he has brewed it what he thought. Excellent choice and service form Brew UK thank you. -

In November 2011 a I visited a Friend of mine and as I entered the house a pint of beer was thrust into my hand and most excellent it was too, upon asking him what it was I was surprised at his answer "home Brew" blimmey it was good stuff, so I searched the internet and ordered my first kit with barrel and Wherrys Bitter. It’s been lovely, smooth bittery taste took a long time to stop popping and a few weeks to clear........trouble was I had drunk half the batch before it got to its best, but I guess that’s the fun of home brewing. I am hooked and am starting a Nog this weekend.......Keep brewing all. -

This was my first attempt after buying the Woodfordes 40 Pint Premium Beer Kit as it was bundled.
A very easy beer to brew, great results and extremely well received by everyone who tried it. All 40 pints were drunk in one sitting during a lad’s poker night. Most of which are now thinking about starting to brew themselves.
The beer is a light brown, with a slight bitter aftertaste. It’s a beer that you can drink all day and not feel like you’ve had too much.
I think this is going to be hard to beat!

I've tried a lot of beer kits with mixed results. Previously I reckoned Muntons dual tin kits were good and reliable, but the Woodforde kits (interestingly I'm told they're made by Muntons), in particular Wherry is the best beer kit I've used. Nelson's vvg too and I alternate between them. -

I had this in the bin for 7 days at 20C before it stopped popping. Then just 15days secondary fermentation in the pressure barrel with 120g white sugar before it went clear and the yeasty aroma disappeared. What a lovely pint it is. Beautiful colour and taste and no "home brew" yeasty overtones. A new hobby is born! -

I had never tried making homebrew before, and had never liked any that I had tasted until I visited a friend in Austria (Austrian , but loves our beer) who served up his homebrewed English Ale which was brilliant, comparable with our great local beer (Harveys of Lewes). He said it was all available on-line so when I got home I looked it up and found Brew Uk and the Woodforde's Wherry kit. Since we really liked Wherry when we were in East anglia, I thought I would give it a go. What a success! From the first pint to the last of 40(ish) we've all loved it. Great flavour, great colour and beautifully clear if you have a little patience. Now brewing our second batch! -

My first ever home brew (excepting a Boots lager kit from 1981 that couldn't possibly be described as beer). The Wherry was so simple to make and having given it four weeks in the keg it poured clear and tasted as good as the 'real' pub-served Wherry. It didn't last long!
Highly recommended. -

My first ever brew. Was easy to make. Left in the fermentation barrel for a week, then bunged it in a barrel. After 3 weeks was ready to drink. Tasted as good as ales you buy in a pub. Didn't clear, but that's probably because I drunk the whole barrel in a fortnight. Works out at 50p a pint, and I would happily pay 6 times that to drink this at my local.
Just bought a second lot. -

Review by brewbeginner on
I got two packs with my initial microbrewery purchase.
It is dead easy to make with simple and clear instructions. Everyone that has tried it thinks it tastes as good as beer from the pub.
My main gripe is that it takes so long (3 months!) to clear. First brew was in the barrel at early spring ambient temp in the garage with no finings - 3 months to clear. For the 2nd I used finings and after a couple of weeks kept the barrel in a fridge - still 3 months to clear.
Tastes fine when not fully clear but that makes it just look like bad home brew!
Have now moved on to "Way to Amarillo" - much more fun to make and hope it clears quicker !! -

I sat around wondering about home brewing. Then took a chance with the woodeford microbrewery including this ale. Having just started my first batch after less than 3 weeks since starting. It is clear, tastes great and is in my opinion as good if not better than the pub. Already got my 2nd batch going. Suspect the first will go quickly. So if your still wondering. Stop and just do it. -

First homebrew with this, got through 80 pints since February!
First stage took 8 days, then in the pressure keg with 1/2 teaspoon of sugar per pint. Second stage was almost ready in one week, but after 2 weeks it was beautifully clear and tasted better than old speckled hen. No need for extra co2 cartridges, it kept good pressure in barrel for the 3 weeks it took to drink. You just have to release a little pressure every day for about the first 10 days of second stage fermentation.
Well recommended.
So simple and the rewards are excellent. -

This was my first ever brew, and it has quite simply changed my life. I was hugely impressed with the absolute ease of brewing and the amazing result; a clean, refreshing and prefectly balanced ale, as good if not even better than a pint from your local real ale pub. I've just placed a second order and can't wait for the next few weeks to pass me by until my next batch is ready. Wherry, wherry good indeed! -

I've brewed this many times and for the price you simply can't do any better.. It has malt and hops very present and for a kit, the hops are present in the nose which is rare. It's by no means over the top hoppy which is the reason that I don't brew it every time as that is my particular preference. But I would recommend it to anyone who likes propper beer. I am a total novice, my wife bought me The Woodeforde's Wherry microbrewery starter kit a few months ago. I am just finishing the first barrel, and I have a second barrel about 2 weeks into the secondary fermentation.
I am amazed at the quality of the beer which tastes fantastic - fine and long-lived hoppy finish. Secondary fermentation required 3 weeks to clear in the shed outside where the ambient temp has been below 10 degrees C for the duration of the secondary fermentation. The beer is still tasing very good after 5 weeks in the barrel. I have just ordered a third Wherry and also a Nelsons Revenge. -
