Woodfordes Headcracker 'Light Barley Wine' 3kg (24pt)

Aptly named, Woodforde's Headcracker is a pale, smooth yet deceptively strong barley wine. It's sweetness in the palate is perfectly balanced by a distinct hoppiness and bitterness. The aftertaste of Headcracker is truly warming.

Long admired by beer enthusiasts throughout the world, cask conditioned Headcracker has many awards to it's credit winning CAMRA'S "Champion Barley Wine" award in 1993/94 & 1994/95

A deceptively strong ale, full bodied and warming - 'For those who dare!' - only you can decide if you want to put the name of the beer to the test! Pale copper colouring and a mellow nose are pleasantly deceptive. A full-bodied plummy flavour with a palatably bitter edge. Continues to a mature maple finish to the end of the glass. 3kg "Real Ale" kits based on recipes from the Woodfordes Broadland Brewery in Norfolk. This brewery has built up an enviable reputation for producing a super range of beers, many of them award winning. All recognised for their impeccable quality & flavour. One of the most popular all malt ranges, consistently producing great brews. No additional sugar required.

BBW (No not that one) Beautiful Barley Wine
    Review by Mikeon 29/05/2017
Fermentation started within the day. I left it in the FV for 9 days with a brew belt on then racked off into my bottling bucket. Batch primed with 100g of brewing sugar before decanting into swing top bottles. Five weeks later it is fantastic. Crystal clear with a creamy head.
If you are a "Match of the Day" fan don't drink four bottles before the programme or you will miss the football. zzzzzzz

    Back for another 2 cans
    Review by Robon 27/09/2013
This is my wife's favourite tipple - she's always been a Barley Wine afficianado - if fact some of her escapades under the influence of such are legendary, including trying to climb over some builders Herris Fencing because it was blocking HER footpath! Anyway knowing her love of the stuff I decided to try this one. Immediate success, even after only 2 weeks in the bottle so I quickly got another one on the go which means that we have managed to mature it for over 6 weeks and believe me it really is worth the waiting; the flavours really develop and soften. So...now I have a happy wife...even if the combinations in supper are somewhat bizarre at times.
Only problem I have is that when it is put in the fridge it seems to go cloudy, anyone know why?

    Good but heavy
    Review by JudeSunFloweron 29/05/2013
I was impressed by this brew which I prepared for Christmas. It hit all the right spots (very fast in some cases!) It is strong and full of flavour. Drink with caution... It almost always gets the better of you.

    Strong and flavoursome
    Review by Coldhearton 23/03/2013
I am a fan of all the Woodforde kits and this is the most recent one that I've brewed - I probably wouldn't rush to repeat it, but only because of my palate, I found it rather sweet. Went nicely, though, with bread and tangy cheese to offset the sweetness. Nice and clear with rich brown colouring.

    Great stuff
    Review by Andrewon 17/07/2012
Made to instructions this is a great tasting brew. Has a strong flavour to it which is very moreish, one swig leads to another and a pint goes down very quickly. Awesome strength for such a great tasting drink, sometimes strong drinks don't taste so good in my opinion, this is not the case here. Gave me a warm fuzzy feeling quite quickly. I will be stocking up on this for xmas time.

    Fantastic
    Review by Markon 09/05/2012
First attempt at the Headcracker, turned out great. Definately worthwhile being patient, this one really benefits from a longer conditioning period. 6-8 weeks in the bottle, unfortunately by then i had very few left. The next brew will be left alone until I can withstand temptation no longer:).

    Very Highly Recommended
    Review by Wiltshireon 15/03/2012
Easy to make, fast to clear, easy to drink, but very very deceptively strong.

The one brew I always come back to and in my opinion can not be beaten.

I love Wherry and most of the other Woodfordes Beers but this is my favourite.

Serve cold and enjoy the massive amount of flavour - good anytime of the year.

    Yes Strong!
    Review by Mechstripperon 16/07/2011
Was very impressed with the oustanding flavour, which is comparable to commercial products. Bottled and starting drinking within two weeks, my mates were so impressed, unfortunately it didn't last very long.

A great tasting clear hoppy beer, which is garenteed to mess you up if you only make the 24pt version. I now increase the water addage and weaken it down about as I couldn't cope with the hangovers but enjoy the taste.
  • Yet again a great brew
    Review by Dan Webberon 23/04/2009
Bottled this one and sampled after 3 weeks and yet again impressed by the quality of the woodfordes range. This one has come out crystal clear and full flavoured, not unlike Duvel, strong but not over powerful. Gonna try the great eastern next.
