Winexpert Eclipse Napa Valley Stag's Leap District Merlot 30 Bottle
    Review by pollmjon 25/09/2017
I bought this kit simply to try out a homemade wine kit that makes wine for roughly £4 a bottle as opposed to my usual £1.50.
Greg Hughes has asked me to review my recent purchase. It is still less than 7 weeks since the purchase and its commencement so I can only review progress to date. The instructions are clear and easy to follow, that said you read across the page after section 1 rather than down the page. I followed the process given until the clarification - that's where I am now.
The initial SG was approx. 1,100 ( at the top limit given). The temperature I held at approx 24 deg using a heater underneath and a PID Controller. After 9 days the SG was approx. 0.999 and after 17 was 0.995.
    All very quick and easy.
For stabilising and clearing I used syphoning from the Fermenter into the Fermenting Bucket and back again. Making sure that there was lots of splashing to get the gas out.
After 25 days I transferred into 5 demijohns as these are easier to shake if there is gas remaining plus as I was having three weeks holiday I wanted to get the wine off the majority of the sediment. One demijohn was only partially filled (not a good thing in the long run). So today, now I am back, I transferred the 3 litres into bottles and took the opportunity to taste.
It is as I expected, what I call a modern red wine with a lovely colour - fruity with a strong oak taste and good for session drinking i.e. not a very subtle taste more of a wham bam but with a good aftertaste - your dentist will probably ask whether you drink a lot of red wine
The wine will stay in the demijohns for at least another month or so with the odd syphoning to remove any further sediment and I will bottle more as and when needed.

You get what you pay for
    Review by Jimon 13/11/2016
£4 a bottle for home brew wine? Are you mad? Far from it.

Even on unboxing this reeks of quality. 18lt of single varietal juice + 2kg of grape skins, high quality pre printed labels, oak chips & cubes-it is a well presented & outstanding kit.

This particular kit needs a stir daily for the first few days to keep the grape skins submerged.

The longer you can leave it,the more complex it becomes. At 6 months there is a definite blackcurrant fruitiness. At a year it is rich, complex & worth every penny. At 18 months,well.....

    Excellent Wine
    Review by Shaunon 26/04/2016
I have just tried this after waiting 6 months and it's excellent and as good as most high end commercial wines. If I can wait a while longer I'm sure it will get better but that's not likely!
In fact I am new to wine making and the quality of this has surpassed my expectations and I am just ordering 2 more!
I know it's more expensive that the other kits but at around £4 per bottle it's worth every penny and you get what you pay for
