This 3.0 kg twin can boxed beer kit is the first in a planned new range of beer kits made in conjunction with the world renowned brewery - St Peters, based in Bungay Suffolk. The first to be released is the Ruby Red Ale – A delicious tawny red ale with subtle malt undertones and a distinctive spicy hop aroma. St. Peter’s Brewery is situated in beautiful unspoiled countryside in north Suffolk close to the historic market town of Bungay. St. Peter’s Hall is the centerpiece of the brewery site and dates from around 1280. In 1539 the East wing was added using materials from the nearby Flixton Nunnery, which was one of a dozen Monastic houses given to Cardinal Wolsey by King Henry VIII to finance the building of a school in Ipswich, Suffolk’s county town Then as today, Suffolk barley was carefully malted to brew beers and that tradition lives on today in the St Peter’s brewery.

    Wonderful session ale
    Review by Matthewon 18/08/2017
Just brilliant. One of the best kits I've made, and that's including the more 'premium' end. Easy going, goes down a treat, and won't blow you head off. Lovely stuff.

    A great combination
    Review by Christopher on 18/03/2017
I've favourably commented once on this. But today I tried adding half a pint of it to half a pint of Muntons Premium Gold Old Conkerwood Black Ale. All this is personal taste of course. But I find the two together very good indeed. I do not require any more points for saying so. Wonderful brews!

    Acquired taste
    Review by Christopher on 05/03/2017
I couldn't wait to taste it, being new to this. So after 2 days ( far too early I knew ) of bottling I opened one. First mouthful=yeuk. Second mouthful=not SO bad. Third mouthful=It should be okay really, in time, hopefully. Fourth mouthful=Wow!!!!!!
I don't know if my total brew will ever be tasted by moi in its best condition! I'll try to leave it a few weeks. i'll fail!

This is my first brew, wow what a result! Im drinking it as i type and im chuffed to bits with how its turned out.
After 2 weeks in the FV it came out fairly clear and smelling good, since then its had a week in the warm and a week in the cold and its come out beautifully! Great colour, holds its head well and great taste. Will definately brew this one again!

    A good no nonsense brew
    Review by Andyon 30/09/2016
This kit came without it's hops packet, but I thought I'd give it a whirl without it. The wort finished fermenting at 10 days and siphoned off into a primed King keg pressure barrel quite clear. Having matured the brew for a month, the result was quite pleasing. A rich amber colour ale with plenty of malt in the mouth, mild hopiness,
( to be expected due to missing hop sachet), also a small apple like aftertaste. The brew was very smooth, and quite filling, IMHO it reminded me of a Vaux's Double Maxim. So I'm going to try it again with the extra hop this time, and see which I like the best.

    Easy brew kit
    Review by Turtson 07/06/2016
The St Peters kits are all very good quality and the Ruby Red Ale is no exception. Tastes great almost straight after fermentation, but a few days of warm conditioning followed by a cold crash makes it crystal clear and a pleasure to drink. Tastes better and better if you leave it for 4-8 weeks in the bottle.

I have used this product 5 or 6 times now. It is great to use as a Christmas beer and is even better with extra hops, bay leaves, cloves, orange etc. It's definitely worth paying the extra money for this kit!

Bought this many times and it is excellent every time. Brewed short to 21L and left to bottle condition for 2 months. Gives an excellent taste, very smooth, not to hoppy and very easy to drink. My favorite homebrew.

Great beer, especially for a kit!
    Review by Leojezon 17/05/2015
Fully recommend this and probably my second fav kit brew (only just behind Nelson's Reserve). Lovely and clear and improved with age. Very smooth and easy to brew. It took a week or two to finish the first fermentation, but the room was a little bit cold.

Had tried the brewery version from a supermarket
    Review by SimonFon 06/05/2015
This was the first brew I made. We'd tried it having bought it from a supermarket and were pleased it was not far off the mark, even for our first brew. We bought a few more packs as a stock to keep going.
I'd say to wait before tucking in as we found it got better with a bit of time.

Great results and very simple to brew. Tastes great a couple of weeks after racking but improves a lot if left. Had one in a keg for a couple of months and now is just lovely. Very smooth and easy drinking. Will definitely do this one again.

    Review by Warren fon 03/05/2014
This is my second brew, my first brew tasted like....well let's just say 40pints went down the bog.
I love a red ale and have tried the bottled version of this brew a few times so I was thinking hmm I might give this home brew one last chance before I sling all my barrels and bottles in the skip.
It was easy to make. Didn't use any finings and bottled it after 9days in the fermenter. I tried the first bottle after 3 weeks. And it was good, real good. It had a good head and a good body. The little sediment left in the bottle stayed put and I was amazed how good the beer looked.
This beer gets better by the day and I really love it. I'll deffo make this again, I've tried to limit myself to a couple of bottles a night but it's soo flipping good that I'll be lucky to have any left by the end of the weekend !!!!

    Can't get it wrong
    Review by Adamon 24/09/2013
I accidentally made an extra gallon - as a result I left it to ferment a bit longer to get the right % - and it tasted remarkably similar to the woodfordes wherry, which is my one of my favorites. I'm going to reorder and make it properly this time though :)

    Good but better kits elsewhere
    Review by JudeSunFloweron 29/05/2013
I enjoyed this but would not rate this above some of the other kits I have tried. It was a little on the light side (in terms of flavour) for my tastes. certainly has a great colour and I still found it very drinkable. If this is your thing - beer wise - you wont be disappointed.

Quick and easy path to a delicious ale
    Review by Daveon 18/10/2012
My second proper brew after trying the Woodefords kit. I have been seriously impressed with this one. It initially had quite a strong fruity flavour (possibly from fermenting at too high a temperature) but this has mellowed out and it just continues to improve with each drinking.

    Splendid Beer
    Review by Simonon 05/07/2012
I have tried many beer kits and this is one of the best. I started to take samples after a couple of weeks in the barrel but the character of the hop really came through after four weeks in the barrel.

My advice: hold off and left it condition for a white to really get the best from this beer.

    Really good kit
    Review by Timon 29/06/2012
I bought another brand for my first two can kit becuase I couldn't get this at my local HBS, and then the wife bought me this one afterwards.

No contest between the two! The St Peters Kit is far and away the best home brew kit I have ever tasted. The additional sachet of hop extract really contributes to the flavour and even though the fermentation temp was a bit higher than I wanted, within three weeks of bottling it's turned out to be a gorgeous pint. Highly recommended!

    Hard to beat
    Review by Nedsteron 29/05/2012
I used to brew my own beer from Boots special kits while still at school. 30 years later, and I'm back doing it again. The St Peters Ruby is my first of the new regime. I can't remember any of my previous efforts tasting this good. It looks great (red and clear as a bell), has a great head when eased out of the barrel, and tastes wonderful now it's been maturing for three weeks. (unfortunately I've drunk over half of it already.)

This was the first kit I tried since my late teens (with the great value Microbrewery deal) and I was very pleased with the results. 10 months on, and several different brews later, I tried it again, and what a difference some experience makes!. Half in a barrel, half in bottles, both are even better, with great malt richness and a gentle hoppy finish. One grateful consumer (who has panned some of my earlier attempts) remarked "I'd pay good money for this in the pub".

    Just ordering again!

    Highly recommended.

Slow start but worth the wait
    Review by Nickon 08/03/2012
The initial fermentation went barmy almost as soon as the yeast was added, but was all over in 3 1/2 days, which didn't bode well. Then it was still cloudy after two weeks in the barrel. After three weeks it is drinking really well though; rich, fruity and with just the right amount of hop. I'll be back for more, especially at the special offer price.

    Very smooth!
    Review by Jasperon 09/02/2012
My 5th brew and most definitely the best. Having tried many of the coopers kits I thought I'd give this ago as it works out only a few pounds more expensive. It's got a lovely sweet after taste, and goes down a little too easily... Next time I'd only fill it up to the 20-21lt mark as it is tastes a little bit weak. We'll see how it tastes develops after a few weeks.
Highly recommended! However if bottling immediately like me you'll find bits of yeast and hopping powder don't settle easily in the bottom so you have to poor it very carefully.

Easy to make and to drink
    Review by Keithon 19/10/2011
This was my second brew and I decided to bottle most of it, leaving 16 pints for the keg. It is a very easy to drink ale, especially the keg stuff which, whilst being lively out of the keg, is flat as a pancake in the glass, albeit with a good head and retention. My efforts have resulted in a fairly watery beer, so it could be that I over-diluted the wort. I can't really taste the effect of the hop enhancing powder that came with the kit either. However, my neighbour, who kindly volunteered to test the bottled stuff, says it's better than the Wherry I did previously (which I thought was rather good), so it goes to show that it's all a matter of personal taste.

If I try this one again, I'll probably dry-hop it to get a bit more flavour.

    Hoppy Ale
    Review by Markon 26/09/2011

I left it to condition for about a month in the barrel before I started drinking it. It has a hoppy taste that makes this ale very drinkable. This will be added to my list of ales to buy again for sure.

Just follow the instructions for a smooth yet interesting beer with a cracking trade off of gentle malt and tangy hops. Was great after 3 weeks in keg and get's better with every passing week.

Next time I'll make 19 litres not the 22 I greedily went for to up the flavour and goodness :)
