Details:

Pale Ale malt forms the majority of the grist for a typical UK Pale Ale or Bitter beer and is made from some of the best spring and winter barley available. There is an emphasis on low protein barley to provide higher extract levels but still acceptable levels of enzymes. The barley will be fully-steeped and germinated before the green malt is loaded to the kiln. Kilning is a carefully controlled process removing moisture to a relatively low level without destroying excessive amounts of enzymes but imparting characteristic flavour and colour.

Even with a diastase of only 45 IOB there is still enough activity to convert for example 5% of Crystal malt and 5 -10% of cooked adjunct (e.g. flaked maize).

    Great value
    Review by Tonyon 22/01/2018
We have done some comparison brews with other, more expensive malts, though not completely scientific, we can not tell the difference.

    Just as good
    Review by BRUCEon 03/01/2018
I'm no expert but I have been brewing for about 40 years and I can't detect any difference in the final beer between this malt and the more expensive Maris Otter.

    I can't tell the difference
    Review by Martinon 01/07/2017
I've done a few brews with this as my base malt now and can't tell that there's any significant difference to the Maris Otter I used previously. From mashing in my Grainfather right through to the final taste of my beer. So gets a thumbs up from me and I will be getting this again.

recently started using this crushed pale malt and am very happy with this product getting the same results[to my mind] as I do from your more expensive brands

    Cheap, Tasty & Excellent Value
    Review by Heathen Breweron 18/04/2016
I was thinking of upping my levels of base malt to make my hobby more cost efficient and this malt ticks that box. Coming in at less than a £ per kilo it is excellent value. I had a few reservations because of this as to the quality and taste but I needn't have, the grains are well milled and the malt when brewed have a nice rounded flavour and a decent mouthfeel. There are going to be plenty of brews made with this malt over the next few weeks so time will tell and the proof of the pudding is in the eating so to say!
