    Excellent and authentic
    Review by Mikeon 04/06/2017
This was only the second brew I had made. I wanted to leave it a good few weeks to condition but, being a bit nervous because I had brewed half a batch in a full size fermenter, I gave it a try after a week. It is superb. I haven't tested it side by side with the real article, but it tastes pretty close to me. I'm guessing it can only improve with age, which will be a bonus.

Possibly better than the real thing
    Review by Martinon 27/03/2016
Very strong and heavy like Marston's Old Roger. Thick as treacle but relatively mild on the palate for such a strong brew. If anything it's better than the original! Simple instructions make this easy to brew. I added the cold water to the wort in the pan to aid cooling rather than cool the wort and add the cold water to the fermenter. Not sure whether there should be a problem with doing this but worked fine for me and meant that it cooled in half the time it would have in the ice cold sink alone. 14 days to ferment, 3 months in the bottle and it's wonderful.
  • Yum!

I was worried because I'm not as keen on using the smack-packs because I prefer White Labs, but it has turned out just fine.

Very nice, good copy, improves on sitting in bottles for a while. Hubby loves it!

    Will do it again. Yum.

    Excellent extract kit
    Review by HoppingMadon 15/09/2013
I kicked this brew off in January 2013 as my Christmas 2013 beer. After botting in February, it's been in the bottle for 7 months and I have to say it's absolutely fantastic.

I used the WYeast Activator 1335 - British Ale II as there was no White Labs WLP007 in stock at the time (I usually go for the White Labs as I don't really like the 'smack-pack' design of the WYeast), and I have to say it's come out pretty much identically to original Old Tom - I'm not sure I would have been able to pick it out in a blind taste test!

I would say that this is the best clone extract brew I've done so far. Fair play to Saracen for coming up with the recipe, and thanks to BrewUK for stocking it. I will certainly be making this a regular brew. :)

    The best extract kit
    Review by beerlover1983on 01/12/2012
Im sure i have revied this already strange.

This is without a doubt the best extract i have brewed .I maybe biased as i love old tom so much but this is as close as it gets .

Mine came out 1% under the shop bottled old tom .But its been in the bottles 3 months and it keeps getting better .No one belives that its a home brew and i have had a all grain brewer stunned that it wasnt all grain in the bottle.

Cant rate this enough it will be my xmas brew every year.

Great work to greg for stocking and saracen for sorting the recipe .
