    New but old
    Review by Michaelon 07/07/2016
I got back into brewing 6 years ago and was astounded how far kits have progressed in my 20 year absence. The main difference being the two tin/no sugar kits. However, these Munton kits were the first of the 'new generation' and I think the even newer kits are one step up again (Bulldog,Festival etc). Don't get me wrong, they're are ok but there is a new wave of better kits

Good but preferred Smugglers Premium Ale
    Review by JudeSunFloweron 29/05/2013
    This was good but...
Muntons Smugglers Special Premium Ale is better - in my view...
As many have written - worth exercising a bit of patience when brewing any of these kits. They're worth the wait though.

    Review by aaronon 01/06/2012
just got my 2nd installment of the finest golden ale brewing with half a barrel left of the 1st one, which is'nt gonna last much longer! if you are a fan of golden ale then look no further than this one.
fantastic ale with a great amber colour perfectly balanced and beautiful bitter aftertaste, i brewed it by the book and it was clear and ready to drink in two days shy of three weeks! what a turnover!!

    get it,crack on,enjoy...........

Excellent brew - with big flavour
    Review by Tedon 22/05/2012
This is only my second brew ever. I used a basic bucket kit for the primary, which went off like a rocket (carpet stains to match in the airing cupboard) and then slowed for 5 days. I had to travel for a week, so decided to bottle it - probably 24 hours too early - but it was that or leave it for too long, which worried me. I added 85 grams of dissolved granulated white sugar for the secondary and it has had only 9 days in 500 ml bottles (in dark, coldish garage). I couldn't resist taking a peek tonight so cracked a bottle and although it has thrown quite a sediment, probably because I bottled it a little too early, I am astonished at the full flavoured taste that is already very very drinkable. It was pretty clear, although will obviously improve, with a lovely head and fine bubbles, which really surprised me - much finer and smoother than a carbonated drink. The bottle was not overly fizzy, but just gave a pleasing "fzzzzzzz" when I opened it - no explosions - but the head lasted all the way down the glass (which admittendly did not stay full for very long). I'm not great at describing flavours, but to me it's very reminiscent of an IPA or perhaps something like an Old Speckled Hen - slightly fruity but with a good bitter aftertaste - and you can't get much higher praise that that I reckon. So all in all, really happy, and just can't wait to see what happens to it over 6-8 weeks, if I can keep my hands off it for that long. Already thinking of what to do for my third brew - hoping to try a wheat beer... Happy days!

Not if you're in a hurry!
    Review by Richardon 05/01/2010
After more than two months in the barrel this is still to drop bright, and it was a bit reluctant to ferment out before that. But it's starting to taste pretty good and I'm sure when it's fully cleared it will have been worth the wait.

a lovely golden lager colour, a smooth sweetness. These Muntons premium kit's are not for the impatient, but if you are prepared to wait they are worth it!
Lovely golden ale with deep flavours. This was one of my best brews so far. great head retention.
