It's good yeast just don't follow the instructions

This yeast is indispensable if you want to produce something like a Czech lager, say Staropramen or Urquell. You'll need to use Czech malt, as well, though- I use Bohemian pilsner malt. There's no need to pitch two packets if you rehydrate the yeast first. Pitch when the wort is at a higher temperature than your target fermentation temperature, this will reduce lag time. I go for 19-20C then let the batch temperature drop to 10 or 12C. It'll soon warm up again when the fermentation gets going so keep an eye on this. Finally, Mangrove Jack recommend you pitch a new packet every time rather than harvesting your yeast from batch to batch, This is just to increase sales, M J cropped yeast works just as well as any other lab's cropped yeast provided tou use it within a couple of weeks and limit the number of generations.

    Fast starter

As my cellar is currently at a constant 12°C thought I'd have a go at my first lager - just a small batch 4.5l brew to dip my toes. Settled on this yeast and rehydrated half a pack in pre-boiled water at about 15°C and pitched into wort cooled to 12°. From other reviews I'd read elsewhere I was expecting a longer lag time, but there were already some signs of active fermentation within 6 hours and it's now fermenting away well. Maybe a couple of months before I can post back with final results however!
