    Mini Keg starter kit
    Review by Davidon 10/05/2017
I bought this as I wanted the Star Party Tap unit & buying it this way was really good value as you got kegs, bungs & Co2 cylinder's as part of the kit. The Tap unit is a really heavy well item & much nicer than similar models. The only reason I gave it 4 not 5 is that I don't like the printed kegs & would much prefer the plain silver ones as these look a little Micky Mouse but that's only a minor issue. Filling a couple of 5 litre kegs is great when you have 25 litres to bottle off and is perfect for a weekend or party when you know you will get through a fair bit of beer.

    Perfect for Small Group
    Review by Walton 20/02/2017
This product is perfect for a small group. You only tap 5L at a time so the rest keeps with its natural carbonation till you need it. Filling is easy, taping is easy and using it is easy.

    Great!
    Review by Ciaranon 01/08/2016
Just the perfect volume for a quiet few drinks with mates. It's so easy to set up that if that quiet drink turns into a not so quiet drink then you can tap another keg in a minute and keep the party going!

    Fed up with bottles?
    Review by Nathanon 12/07/2016
Just finished my first brew which I used with 4 minikegs and I love them. Bottling day was very time efficient with the need to sanitise and fill 40 odd bottles. The beer kept well for 6 months, and the party star tap (with CO2) kept the beer fresh over the four days that it took me to drink a 5L keg.

    I hate bottling !!!
    Review by Paulon 03/03/2016
These things are great. The thought of filling 40 bottles or even 60 for my Belgian styles fills me with dread. Now I just dilute the pain by filling a couple of these kegs. The tap is great but I think I might need another to introduce a little variety in to what a drink at any one time. Cleaning is simple but drying for storage is a real pain. Don't like the paint job would prefer a plain keg but that's just me.

    Easy kegging and drinking
    Review by Seamuson 22/01/2016
I love these mini kegs as they are so easy to fill and so much less mess than bottling.

The dispenser is great too. I can tap the keg andjust drink the beer as and when and th co2 keeps it fresh for ages. I had one keg on the go for 3 weeks and the beer was just as good at the end of 3 weeks as it was when I tapped it.

Great product - saves so much time over bottling
    Review by Mikeon 17/11/2015
When I first got this system I split two 20l batches of IPA, bottling half and kegging the other half to test whether there was and difference in flavour, conditioning and stability between bottles and the keg.

the beer was tested by myself and another tester and whilst we did find that the bottle conditioned beer may have been slightly better the difference was very fine.

For all beers that are to be consumed quickly I now exclusively use kegs, the time and effort saved over bottling is worth the very slight trade of in flavours. I now only bottle condition big beers or those that take more time to age.

Not just handy storage but also a useful dispenser
    Review by Martinon 24/02/2015
First off, thanks to BrewUK for the fast delivery and usual great service!
Everything came in the one big box. I was surprised by the quality of the barrels and tap. Perhaps it was my expectation after looking at the pictures and the plastic look but the tap is actually quite sturdy especially around the co2 connector.
I used vaseline to seal the dip tube where it screws to the tap rather than the specialist stuff I had read about on some forums but I had no leak issues that some others have experienced.
I usually bottle my beers but also have both the 2 gallon and 5 gallon plastic barrels. I wanted to try these smaller barrels so that I could have a sensible size that I could take to parties or that could be consumed over a couple of days. Bottles are ok but having to pour carefully to avoid disturbing the sediment is fiddly when partying.
There are a number of advantages with this system in that the co2 bulbs aren’t used up all at once as the gas flow is easily turned “off and on-able”, so as the flow reduces from the tap you can open the valve and gas up the barrel. You can hear the gas flowing and you get used to when the pressure is right. Also when the barrel is empty you can turn the gas off and move the tap to another barrel without loosing the rest of the gas in the bulb.
One of the more obvious advantages is the size. At only 25cm high and 17cm wide these barrels can fit in your fridge and are light enough to carry to a friends house or a party. They are practically identical to the Hobgoblin barrels except for those have a built in tap on the bottom.
A less obvious advantage is you don’t have to second ferment your beer in the barrel you can just use it as a dispensing system. When I first got the kit I was keen to try it right away so poured 6 or 7 bottles of relatively flat beer, that I had accidentally under primed, in to the barrel and then used the co2 to pressure the barrel up. So not only had I improved an otherwise flatfish beer but also had a sediment free barrel of beer that I could take anywhere and not worry about disturbing said sediment. Obviously I had to drink this within 3-4 days but that was not a problem as I had just put in enough for what I wanted at the time.
The beer was most certainly improved by dispensing in this way as it improved the look, airation, texture and therefore flavour. It is great fun to use too!
I have just put my first brew in the barrels for second ferment so am looking forward to seeing how that turns out. I’ve also put some of the same brew into bottles for direct comparison. One thing to note when kegging into these barrels is to only put a 3rd of the normal amount of priming sugar in as they are not designed for high pressure. It’s all in the instructions that come with the kit.
One last point is while much easier than bottling, the barrels are a pain to clean as there is only the one little hole in the top for access and you can’t see inside very well. So a good clean and sterilise immediately after use is recommended. Don’t loose the dust cover for the hole as this will help keep it clean when not in use. Also make sure the barrel is totally dry inside and out before storing.

    Review by Mr_Gingeon 02/07/2014
The kit arrived promptly with clear instructions as to how to fill and use.
I am currently brewing so will let you know how it went and if there are any niggles.
Not sure about the awful paintwork they come with.... Nothing some paint stripper and a scouring pad can't sort.
All in all, a good purchase thus far.

    Good for lack of space
    Review by Robon 31/07/2013
I got these as an alternative to cornys or other 5 gallon kegs.
I've not got the space in the kitchen for anything large so these are ideal, they fit nicely into my small kitchen cupboards so even the girlfriend approves!

Only small negative is the branding on the kegs is not to my taste, I only see if when I'm pouring though.

    Excellent way to store beer.
    Review by Steveon 06/10/2011
I bought this in may and very happy with the results. The only fall back is the amount of space it takes up in the fridge. I keep mine in a cool place and the co2 keeps the beer cool enough to drink. Carbonation levels are perfect.
