30 Ltr Insulated mash tun for steeping grain to produce sweet wort. Can mash up to 10 kgs of grain at once. Includes stainless steel wort strainer. Pre-heat the mash tun by filling it with hot water (not above 80c) and fit the lid. Meanwhile heat the mashing water to 75-80c (2.5 litres per kilo of grain). Empty the mash tun and refill it with the brewing water. Stir in the grains making sure there are no lumps and taking care that the strainer is not dislodged. When all the grains have been added check that the mash temperature is within the range 65-67c. Adjust if necessary with cold or boiling water. Fit the lid and leave undisturbed for 90 mins. Meanwhile heat 20 litres of water to 75c for sparging. Position your boiler beneath the mash tap. Slowly open the tap and draw off 2 litres of wort. This cloudy wort should be returned to the top of the grain bed. Allow the sweet wort to flow slowly into the boiler. Adjust the tap to achieve a flow-rate of approximately half litre per minute. The boiler can be switched on after approximately 5 litres has been drawn off. Sparge (rinse) the grains with the water heated to 75c ensuring that the grains neither flood or dry out. Continue to sparge until 25-30 litres have been collected, then boil with the hops in the usual way. Purchase 3/8" bore tubing for the tap to run off to the boiler. Sold Separately see right hand side. Approx internal dimensions : 22cm W x 25cm D x 38cm H

    Effective mash tun

    Review by on

Not being able to construct a mash tun myself, this was the next best thing. As the cheapest tun I could find I have been pleased with results so far. The hop strainer I received was not the one in the picture, but a straight mesh strainer. The strainer itself can become loose with too vigourous stirring. However, for mashing this is perfect, it keeps temperature well and I find the tap pretty easy to use.

    Just what I needed

After battling with some old net curtain to BIAB i decided to go for a proper mash tun, this is just what i needed, holds the temperature really well and is dead easy to clean.Top bit of kit.
