    Useful bit of kit
    Review by davidon 03/01/2017
It's in use at the moment and holding a very steady temperature.
I have added a small cable tie around the electric cable to ensure that the heater doesn't slip down and touch the bottom of the fv

    Disappointing
    Review by Williamon 19/09/2016
This is sturdy and works, but the adjustability is ghastly. There are no marked settings so you will have to go by trial and error, and being only a small heater, this can be cumbersome with a bigger batch.
I bought this initially for a saison and wanted to hit the higher temps for primary but it just about managed a steady 24 before the weather cooled off and it managed 22ish.

    A must for any brewing.
    Review by Jamieon 15/07/2016
Bought my first immersion heater and was impressed with how much quicker fermentation actually is with a proper temp control. Smashed my first one on the floor so had to invest in a second one as it is a must for any brew.

    Simple, effective
    Review by Breweron 04/01/2016
Having read lots of reviews that temp control is the one thing that should be invested in I decided to purchase the heater. It worked a treat - temp was very stable. Simple to use - I used a flat head drill bit to make a hole in the fermentation vessel for the supplied bung and off I went. I used a couple of layers of bubble wrap so that the heater wasn't also heating the room! I may transfer to the garage, and if I do I will look at some more substantial insulation

    Nice and thin!
    Review by Alanon 09/12/2015
I'd had an immersion heater similar to this for years, until I dropped it and the glass broke. I shopped around for a replacement and realised an aquarium heater does the same job and is cheaper, so I bought one. It does work in a 5 gallon fermenter, but is a shade too wide for a 1 gallon glass demijohn. so I bought this one for my one gallon kits and it fits easily through the neck of the demijohn. Nice and thin!

Second purchase - 1st still in use after 3yrs
    Review by Brightonon 29/12/2014
Bought as a back-up and to increase beer/wine production! Have been using one with excellent results for 3 years having set it to 22-24C. Only drawbacks are it is glass and the adjuster knob is slender and tends to be stiff so need to use pliers which could cause damage, - so care is needed.

    good product
    Review by Benon 05/02/2013
Got this immersed using a 60 odd litre storage box (wilkinsons) as a water bath and another one upside down for a lid, all bubblewapped for insulation and it stays at 21 all the time, even though my flat is at about 13 degrees at the moment. Good buy & cheaper than leaving heating on!

    Excellent bit of kit
    Review by LFon 28/01/2013
I cut a hole in one of my FVs to accept the modified bung and this has been keeping 23 litres at a rock solid 22 degrees for 4 days now. I wanted one of these as at this time of year the temperature can fluctuate widely as the heating goes on and off during the day.

These are basically aquarium heaters with a modified bung attached so that they can hang suspended in your FV, so should be very reliable and last a long time (I've had the same type of heaters working perfectly in aquariums for years).

One observation is that these might not be a good match with the standard FVs sold through the shop as those are made of lightweight plastic. I put this on a FV made from a heavy duty food grade plastic bucket and it works perfectly.

Only just purchased, but seems to have worked a treat.
    Review by Keithon 16/01/2013
Just fermented my first batch with this, and it seems to have worked perfectly, big advantage is that I've been able to do this in the garage, and have been confident that the just has maintained a constant temperature.

    Excellent product
    Review by brewnoviceon 08/01/2013
After realising that my first two attempts at all-grain brewing had come up short because of a lack of heat, I looked at ways of keeping my beer warm during fermentation and stumbled across this heater.

The heater is essentially a 5-inch long glass tube which hangs in the beer via a (waterproofed!) electric cable which runs through a specially-made bung which also has the standard hole for a water valve. A minor gripe with this design is that it is quite difficult to get the heater to sit in a 1-gallon demijohn without it touching the glass sides of the bottle (which is very important to prevent damage).

The heater is factory set to 24 degrees but this can be changed by turning the thermostat knob on top of the heater, although this can be a little tricky at time.

Nonetheless a fantastic product at the price, ideal for beginners.

    Great product
    Review by Jameson 14/12/2012
I have done 2 brews with this now. Last one just finished fermenting in my garage. Bearing in mind it's blooming freezing in there, the fermentation completed perfectly. The thermostat switches on and off to maintain a constant temperature. My only gripe before I used it was that I can't work out how to adjust the temperature. THat said, now I have used it twice with good results I realise it doesn't need any adjustment anyway. I would recommend this to people brewing through the colder months (erm...pretty much all year round?!)
