    Good kit
    Review by Graemeon 18/08/2017
My first all-grain brew and I'm not disappointed, even though I learnt a few lessons during the brew and so it has room for improvement. Excellent quality ingredients from brewuk.

It's quite strong, if I did it again I'd go for a lower OG (more liquor), less priming sugar (I went for 2.2 in bottles), use water treatment (CRS for hard water) and possibly dry hop for added aroma. Also interested to see the difference with liquid yeast.

I am lucky enough to live near enough to Hopback Brewery to drink the real Summer Lightning and this kit was just like the real thing. A fantastic summer beer.

This will be my 3rd summer lightning brew. Each batch getting better. Liquor pH important to avoid astringency. Lovley Brew

    Review by Teesside Daveon 05/11/2015
Wow!! This was my second all grain kit and what a tasty beer. Very moorish once you start drinking it. Was good to drink after 4 weeks (2 weeks fermenting and 2 weeks conditioning in barrel). Would def buy again....one I have tried the rest of the all grain kits on offer :o)

    Liquid yeast option
    Review by wilfon 23/07/2015
Made this 3 times now (No3 conditioning in barrel). 1st with dry yeast option and very pleased as this is 1 of my favourite commercial brews. Using the liquid yeast option however takes it to a whole new level, so much so that, although slightly less clear, it tasted as good as the real thing which was conveniently on draft at my local while I was drinking my own version. Very happy.

This was the 2nd time i brewed this. It was great the first time when i used dry yeast, but this time i used the liquid yeast (later havested to re-use), EVEN better, as good as any good pint of ale in a pub.

    Excellent - would brew again
    Review by andydon 28/01/2013
This was my first attempt at an all grain brew, and I received this recipe pack as part of the all grain equipment "starter pack". As it was my first attempt, my expectations were not that high. I needn't have worried, this beer tastes lovely, and this is after only two weeks of barrel conditioning. I used the Wyeast, of which I am a big fan, and found the whole process of all grain brewing pretty straightforward. I would definitely brew this beer again.

    Refreshingly good.
    Review by Mechon 15/07/2012
This was my first AG and I am pleasantly surprised at how good it tastes compared to the other methods I have tried. This is a refreshingly too easy to drink pale ale and will not be lasting very long.

    Excellent
    Review by Martinon 12/04/2012
My first attempt at all grain brewing and it turned out to be one of the nicest beers I've ever had after 3 weeks in the keg. My only problem is keeping my wife away from it as she has just discovered she likes 'real beer'. Will definitely do this one again.

    Thunder & Lightning - What a beer!
    Review by Steveickyon 05/09/2011
This was my first all grain brew in over 10 years so I was not expecting a perfect result. However, after tasting the first batch I was blown away. This beer has a wonderful soft malty flavour with a perfect balance of hops. There is plenty of mouth feel to the beer which immediately makes you feel that you are drinking a quality beer. The biggest problem is that it is too easy to drink so it will not be lasting very long. I would recommend this all grain kit to anyone as it has very few raw ingredients to worry about but produces one of the best beers you will ever make. I would go as far to say that this tastes better than most of the commercially available beers at your local pub.

As this was my first all grain brew in a while I have taken the time to document my process, see the Summer Lightning page on www.brew.x10.mx for my brewing notes. I have included pictures at every stage to show how easy this is.

    Fine brew
    Review by Strudwickon 29/08/2011
I'm drinking my second batch of this brew now and it is superb. My aim was to be able to make an all grain, home brew that was indistinguishable from a professionally brewed and distributed product. With this Summer Lightning kit I believe that I've achieved my objective already. I am going to put a bottle of this in front of my mates in a blind tasting against the original Hopback product, and I'm willing to bet that none of them will be able to identify mine as the home brew.
After mashing, boiling, fermenting and bulk conditioning exactly as the recipe said it would, I've bottle conditioned it for 3 weeks and it has cleared beautifully and has just enough CO2 for a satisfying pop when the crown cork is removed.
My only beef is that the brew is relatively expensive at around 90p per pint of finished product, but still worth it in my opinion.
