All I can say is WOW!
    Review by Martinon 25/04/2017
This is by far and away the best kit beer I have ever brewed. I could not believe it tasted so damn good. It did take some 14 days to ferment out at 24 degrees rather than the stated 10 days but I expected this. I brewed it short to 22 litres which I believe gave a little extra body to the beer. The bottled and fully conditioned beer was nice and clear, a nice hiss when opening and not too lively. I say 'was' because it didn't last very long once I tried it.
Would I brew this again? yes absolutely. In fact I am about place my order right now. If you are new to brewing I would highly recommend this kit as a first try.

    A good brew for summer
    Review by Chrison 15/01/2017
This was the first beer I ever brewed ( a present from my wife) instructions are very clear and a very nice brew! 2 weeks fermentation and then 4weeks conditioning and I became the most popular person in the house!

    Awesome
    Review by Paddyon 06/12/2016
I've made this before, but this time wanted to add spikier hops. First time was a bit grassy; I think I added the hops too soon. Fermentation stuck this time due to cold a few days in. Got a heat mat, plonked in on there, gave it a stir and let it catch up. Gravity was down to 1.008 before I added citra pellets instead of the included ones. They were in for maybe 4/5 days, got a steady 1.002 so kegged it. Wow. Unbelievably good. Clean, hoppy, 4.7% and already fairly clear. Can't wait for Christmas!

    Disappointing
    Review by Davidon 28/06/2016
Fermentation almost non-existent, temperature consistently between 21-25 deg, but very little activity. Possibly yeast inactive? However a week in and very little going on, definitely no bubbling and very little foam.

Golden Stag is awesome. This was only my 2nd brew and it has turned out fantastic. A really tasty beer. Only problem now is deciding whether to try another kit, or just buy another Golden Stag and keep making this delicious brew.

    The older the better
    Review by Richardon 23/01/2016
Currently drinking a pint of Stag which I bottle in May 2015. It has improved very well with age, and I'm about to order another of the same kit. A citrus and hoppy ale that is better than most of the stuff you'll get in your local. I experimented with recycling a 5ltr mini keg and it worked fantastically with Stag, producing a creamy pint which I'm not getting from the bottles, so next time I'll do 2 of the 5ltr kegs and bottle the rest. Will buy again.

    A great summer tipple
    Review by Meredithon 23/09/2015
I've brewed this one a couple of times now and it's a really great light summer brew. The additional hops makes this a little more interesting than the likes of the Woodfordes Sundew and as with all Festival kits the quality is really evident. I have kegged and bottled this one and overall found it works better in a keg especially if you have a cool place to store it. It need to be drunk fresh with the floral and grassy flavours in tact. Festival kits are a treat and this beer is a pub quality belter.

    Disappointing.
    Review by cogent1on 28/08/2015
After all the rave reviews, I was expecting something special, but my brew turned out to be a disaster. The fermentation was very slow, and the brew never got down to the recommended final SG. I added the hops after five days as stipulated and they remained in the FV for two weeks as the fermentation proceeded at a snail's pace. I am meticulous about cleanliness and I used fresh filtered water. The temperature never dropped below 19 degrees, so I am at a loss to explain what went wrong.

The final result is a beer with a strong medicinal first taste, leading to a brackishly bitter after-taste. I am going to ditch the whole brew. It's undrinkable. These kits are expensive, and I dare not risk a repetition of this failure., so won't repeat the experiment.

    Addictive!
    Review by SLordon 23/08/2014
Fantastic beer. Non-homebrewing friends can't believe how good it tastes - it's even preferred over local, commercially brewed beers. The instructions are very good for beginners and all the ingredients are in the kit. The carbonation is perfect, e.g. not flat! It is however a very hoppy beer but I guess it would be possible to add the hop pellets later towards the end of fermentation.

My second batch is fast running out and wish I'd started a new batch earlier!

    One of the best!
Review by Fred the beermonsteron 24/07/2014
I made this on my second i attempt as a newbie; and what a confidence booster this is! The fresh citrus aroma has to be experienced- a totally delicious brew. I agree with previous reviewers, it has a great head, and a nice bitter note to it; my drinking buddies could not believe I brewed a beer of such quality. Well done Festival, this is going to be part of my regular cellar- it justs gets better and better the longer I leave it. Looking forward to getting home from a trip overseas to sample it again!

    Best kit ever
    Review by oceanoon 23/07/2014
This has got to be the best kit I have ever made. I had was naughty and opened a bottle after only 4 days and it tasted so good. Gong to leave the rest for a couple of weeks (if I can).

I agree with another review that this kit is not just for summer.

If you are thinking of getting a kit for the fist time then you cant go wrong with this one :-)
  • Second time better
    Review by Travipooon 02/07/2014
I've just brewed this again as it was so nice the first time. This time, I used a siphon and racked it before adding the priming sugar. I also added the hops loose. Last time, I put them in a the filter bag that comes with the kit. It's only had two weeks in the bottle and it's much improved. It has a creamy head that lasts all the way to the bottom and a much better body that the previous batch. So good, that I have the Ported ready for my next brew.

    Review by Keithon 07/01/2014
A really very nice tasting beer that has received compliments from all who have tasted it - including a few home-brew sceptics! Not sure why it is called a Summer Ale as I've been enjoying it all year round :-)

    First Festival kit
    Review by Mikeon 19/11/2013
These kits gave me the confidence to start drying hopping, maybe not the knowledge though.

The Festival Kits are great kits easy to brew and this one in particular is very tasty. I was hoping to let it condition for a year, I managed to save 4 bottles for 3 months so i'm going to have to get another kit soon.

    thoroughly recommend nice and Hoppy

    A top class ale.
    Review by dogmanon 21/08/2013
I have brewed this beer in the barrel and in bottles. I think bottled is better. Either way its a first class beer. A fruity aroma, tropical fruit to begin and then a big mouthful of bitterness and hops. It even leaves lacing all the way down my beer tankard! Last point, you should leave this beer for two months in a cool place, (my garage) befor drinking. I think its worth the wait.

    Very nice beer
    Review by John bon 06/08/2013
Ive been full mash brewing for many years, but thought after reading the reviews i would try a golden stag kit for a change.

Well i didnt expect much from a malt extract kit, but i was wrong and this kit made really good quality beer with a very nice hoppy taste.

Many Years ago home brew kits were very poor and got a bad press, but the standard of this kit is excellent.
I brewed mine then put it in a cornelius keg in my brew fridge and its better than many a beer at the pub.
May look expensive, but you get what you pay for, which is a top quality beer and simple to make......cant wait to try the IPA one next

    Best brew to date
    Review by Danon 30/07/2013
I agree with the other reviews on here- especially beerlover1983 and JudeSunFlower- as this is an excellent 'step up' from the usual starter beer kits.
I had previously dry hopped a Sundew Golden Ale using Amarillo leaf hops with a very pleasant result- but found the transferring from the FV to a bottling keg a little tricky due to the mass of clumpy leaf hops.
This Golden Stag kit uses hop pellets and they really disperse evenly throughout the beer and leave a thin green sediment at the bottom of the FV- making it easy to transfer out when bottling- you could even bottle direct from the FV if you wanted.
The muslin bag included makes extra sure if transferring out and I found no unwanted residue in my final beer.
    My procedure was as follows:
FV for 14 days @ 22c with hops added at day 5.
Bottled and rested @ 22c for 14 days.

I am a stickler for ensuring all equipment and bottles are thoroughly clean and santitised and have also built a bespoke brew fridge as many others have (check the forums for links and suggestions) so that my FV temp is stable.

The result I was delighted to find was a beautiful golden ale that was surprisingly lively in the glass (but then I hate a 'flat' ale).
The hops really add that extra dimension to the smell and flavour and was given the seal of approval by my brother-in-law, a seasoned brewer, so praise indeed!

Enjoy this excellent kit. I have ordered the Festival IPA off the back of the success of this one!

    The new wherry kits
    Review by beerlover1983on 14/07/2013
I think for the money these kits are now the best value for the beer you get out.I started off like many on wherry kits but this is a new level. The extras like hops priming sugar and straining bag are exellent.
The beer is some of the best and would rival some hoppy beers you can buy in shops.

    Review by JudeSunFloweron 29/05/2013
Delicious. As a relative newbee I tried this kit after a many happy experiences with Woodfordes and Muntons... I thought it might be a good stepping stone to the next stage. What a great decision.
The first of my brews that my wife has shown any interest in. Lovely aroma, refreshing and far too drinkable. I am under some pressure to get another on the go.
    Go for it!

If you like Chinook by Goose Eye Brewery NR Keighley, West Yorkshire, this is it's twin brother. I've been looking for a citrus style beer for ages. Well done "Festival" for another excellent brew, after five weeks in the bottle a truly sensational.

    Lovely
    Review by sprooton 23/01/2013
Citrus, hoppy, really good quality, clean and flavourful, keeps really well too, still appeared fresh and fruity after a couple of months in the bottle. A lovely brew that I will be doing again come summer.

Lively as you like though, needed to be careful in bottles and was a nightmare in an easy keg - had to de-pressurise it to stop it turning to froth. May well not use all the priming sugar next time! Don't let that dissuade you from it though, this is an excellent brew.

    Hoppy golden ale
    Review by Fontlefinkon 02/11/2012
Just finished this brew. This is the first kit i have used with a new electrim thermostat and into a corny keg. The finished result, even though its only been in the corny for 4 days ( i know !) is fantastic. Hoppy smooth and already very drinkable. The separate hop pellets were an excellent addition. I would imagine this would mature out very well, sadly with mates coming round for bonfire night, i should think i will never get to find out this time.

    Festval PREMIUM Golden Stag
    Review by Hop Headon 26/08/2012
I purchased this Festival Golden Stag Ale kit a few weeks back, it arrived in a lovely looking box, loads of info on the front of it ie taste, aroma etc even tells you the hops used in it! Started off very well, added the hop pellets on day 5 as stated in instructions, it does say to add them loose and although the kit comes with a hop filter bag I decided to chuck some boiling water over a hop boiling bag to sterilise it, added the hop pellets, tied a knot in it and dropped it in the fermenter, I usually do his with hop additions as syphoning can be a little frustrating with bits of hops clogging up the syphon.

I gave the hop bag a poke every few days, when it came to bottling I used the filter bag on the end of the syphon and transferred it to another clean bucket, the kit even comes with a sachet of priming sugar! Added it, stirred it and began bottling, done! I had a cheeky sniff and tasted very promising!

Well you know what it's like, it's been bottled for around 14 days now, I thought it would be to early but the footies on and I thought I should try a bottle........ OH MY WORD! It is incredible and I know it's only going to get better! The thing that really stood out to me was the hop flavour/aroma, having done numerous kit beers I always find whilst they have good hop bitterness they really lack any hop character. Well Festival really lives up to everything I have read about them, by far the best kit I have ever made and I will certainly be making the rest in the range

More than worth the money, in fact I would be happy to pay a couple of quid for a bottle from the supermarket of this...... I fact I would even say its better than a number of commercial beers that I have tried. Will be my regular brew from now on :D
