Some major issues with this fermenter.
    Review by Bazzeron 30/11/2016
The first issue I had with the fermenter was setting it up which was far from straightforward especially with the need to use the supplied tape to make fittings leakproof. It took several attempts before I had no leaks.
The first kit I tried in the fermenter was Festival's Pilgrims Hope. I have made a number of the Festival kits with good results. I did, however, encounter a major problem with the Fastferment. Basically after adding the hops, sediment clogged the valve at the bottom of the fermenter such that it was not captured in the collection ball as intended. I was unable to unblock the valve and had to siphon the beer off through the top of the fermenter rather than the bottom as intended. All this affected the quality of the beer and it was a disappointing brew.
In future I plant to put the hops in the Festival kit in a muslin bag and suspend this from the lid of the fermenter. I am, not, however, convinced that the valve will not get blocked with sediment again and I think this is a major defect with the Fastferment.

The best on the market for amateurs
    Review by Michaelon 07/07/2016
I would love a stainless steel fermenter, but the price is out of my range. This however is a happy medium and definitely the best plastic fermenter on the market. My only criticism is that you have to buy the stand separately as you are stuck without it

    Easy!
    Review by Luke Adamson 17/03/2016
I welcome any product that makes the process easier and this one ticks all the boxes!
Simple to install, takes away the hassle of transfers, and easy to clean one you're done.

I keep mine in the garage so during the colder months its worth investing in a brew belt to keep the temp steady.

Wall mount is genius, saves so much space not having fermenters scattered over the floor!

    Very pleased.

    shame
    Review by timon 15/03/2016
Love this fermenter sadly i don't think its going to see more than 10 brews.
The plastic seems of poor quality. I have taken it all apart to clean it after 5 brews and it seems like its going to fall apart. I have read lots of reviews and people are all having the same problems. Like i sad i do love the fermenter, it just needs better quality parts. Going to do one more brew and then decide whether to return it due to not fit for purpose.

Not as good as I had hoped for
    Review by Johnnythrostleon 28/12/2015
Well took delivery of this kit a month back, done a brew in it fermented for a week and took off the trub with the bottle and left for another week, then half barrelled and half bottled the brew.cracked one off the barrel a few days back and horror upon horrors it has a definite plastic taste gonna leave it a little longer to see if it improves, today decided to brew another in it, it had been left with steralised water in it and upon inspection the thermometer probe inside has turned green! There are not many good points about this conicle,it is also an awkward shape to handle and could have quite easily have been manufactured with carry handles on it like a king keg, also the cap is awkward to tighten and untighten due to its size again it could have been manufactured with better grips on it,finally the sealing O ring to the catch bottle could have been made to fit the catch bottle and drain hose attachment not the underside of the conicle where it can't be seen.all in all a bit of a disapointment and a LOT harder work than a plain 5 gallon FV bucket

    Get One
    Review by Mitchon 28/11/2015
I'd been using Better Brew fermenters to good effect for a number of years. The limited contact with trub and yeast cake in this conical has had a noticeable effect and yeast harvesting is a doddle. Note that the amount of cold break material formed when using a counterflow chiller may be sufficient to fill the ball completely so even though it only has a 700mL volume, the amount of water and jars required to wash the yeast may not be significantly less than with a bucket. I gave the fermenter a good wriggle after replacing the ball to encourage any on the steep sides to sink to the bottom.

I've filled the bulb with hop tea rather than going for the CO2 or boiled cooled water, as an alternative to dry hopping, with good effect (you can add hop oils in this way too).

The fermenter plus stand will fit into a tall fridge for temperature control and the stand allows relatively easy handling at kegging time.

I agree with the need for significant amounts of tape which is a bit of a pain to remove when cleaning and sterilising, but a stiff plastic brush makes relatively light work of it.

    bit of advice
Review by rob lincoln breweron 15/11/2015
Brew Meister General. To prevent oxidisation, squirt a little co2 into the secondary ball before your priming sugar. This way you don't have to add sterile water

    Easier brewing, minimal risk
Review by Brew Meister Generalon 21/10/2015
I got this as a beginner so I could achieve secondary fermentation without the difficultly of having to syphon, but so the best thing about is how little risk you will take in initiating secondary and in bottling. You can bulk prime without any concern as well.

The only catch is that when changing the collecting ball for secondary you have to fill it up with 1 litre of sanitised water to prevent oxidisation, so aim a tad higher on your FG and ABV. There's sometimes concern over leaking but all you have to do is apply thread tape before each brew and you're sorted, so order a pack of 10 off eBay.

You can also use an Immersion Heater for when it gets cold, ideally one with indicated temperatures, all you will have to do is drill a 1 inch hole into the centre of the lid.

    Brilliant Product
    Review by Garyon 23/06/2015
Great product. You have to really take your time putting it together and making sure the teak tape is on good and right where it should be to avoid leaks. I missed a very small leak from the thermowell first time I brewed a batch in it, but it was such a small leak I got away with it.
Overall though, it's a great step up from my bucket fermenters and being able to bottle from the same vessel I've done fermentation in was a big time saver. Nice and clear as well. I gave it a bit of a bang a few days before bottling as I had noticed some gunk stuck on the side of the fermenter, but that settled nicely into the collection ball by the time I was ready to bottle and away I went.
Very happy with it, only loses a star as it's very easy to mess up the construction and have small leaks.

    Great piece of kit
    Review by Chrison 06/05/2015
Most impressed with this, especially in comparison to the price of most other HDPE 'hobby-scale' conicals. Given the number of parts, pleased to see these are all well machined and all feel solid enough to last a good while. Yeast harvesting could not be easier, so if you brew similar beers fairly regularly (and sanitise properly!) you should be able to re-use yeast cultures reliably whilst leaving lovely clear beer behind in the fermenter for racking, which is also a (relative) doddle. Also great for dry-hopping and can be easily shifted around if, like me, your temperature control is a matter of where in the house/garage you put it! Also comes with foolproof instructions in a fascinating range of languages. Thoroughly recommend this as an upgrade for the traditional bucket n lid.

    Great product
    Review by Jameson 18/03/2015
Just want to say that I am impressed with the fastferment conicals. I started off two batches on 26 Feb and they were drinkable (to much acclaim) on sat 14 Mar!! My guests went through 50L of beer eschewing commercial alternatives! Great product and other than difficult to handle when full a number of advantages over buckets.
