Coopers Brewmaster Irish Stout 40 Pts

A rich, dark brew displaying coffee, chocolate and licorice aromatics, roasty bitter notes with a dry finish. Thomas Coopers Irish Stout is an authentic recipe containing a blend of malted barley, roasted barley, flaked barley and hops. The pour will show a turbulent, cascading tan foaming action. Eventually, this settles into a creamy beige coloured head that rests atop the beer.

To think of all that silky, smooth, malted, roasty-ness without licking your lips is impossible.

300g of additional sugar required and 500g spraymalt light.

Made this many times. I use the standard recipe. Always turns out good. Very like the famous Irish Stout.

    Thomas Cooper Irish stout kit
    Review by Davidon 03/03/2016
This is the third time I have made this kit, I add some crystal and chocolate malt, maltodextrin and instead of sugar I use 500g of dark DME and 500g of wheat DME. It turns out beautifully smooth with a great head and a nice edge but not as bitter as Guinness. Lots of flavours going on, its lovely.

Nice but a little short on hops
    Review by Samon 21/07/2015
Brewed this up as a Breakfast Coffee and Treacle Stout and it came out a little more like a mild. Nice sweet malty notes but I think my added spray malt and treacle took the edge off of the hops

Absolutely lovely but next time I'll be using some extra dark spray malt and dry hop it. Keep it in the fermenter for and extra week!

Here's my recipe for a Marvellous Mild:
Roast 200g rolled porridge oats for 20 mins, turning regularly until a light golden colour.
Put a nice Dark Roast coffee on to brew in a 1l cafetiere, make it strong
Steep oats for 30-45 minutes in 4l of water at 65 - 70*C
Dissolve 1kg Dark Spraymalt, 200g Brown Sugar and 300g Black Treacle
    Dissolve Coopers Irish Stout kit
Transfer to Primary, with the coffee
Top up with water to 21-26 *C then add yeast.

    Great Stout
    Review by Charlieon 02/11/2013
Lovely flavour. Needs additional sugar and DME, but still economical. Nice to experiment with Demerrara sugar or Black treacle as substitutes.

    Lovely!
    Review by Jasperon 28/09/2012
Added 1kg of light spray malt so it came out fairly strong.

So far I've had brilliant feedback from friends and family, it's got a lovely taste to it but doesn't retain it's head particularly well. Will be buying this one again but adding some brewers head liquid!

Coopers Brewmaster Irish Stout 40 Pts
    Review by Mosherjon 15/07/2012
Delivery was within two working days, can't fault that.
The brew was started on July 13th and as this is my first batch since returning to home brewing after about 15 years, I followed the recommendations to (almost) the letter. Ive used a dark malt instead of the light malt recommended as I do tend towards very dark beers.
As I write, the brew is bubbling away nicely so I'll post again in about two months and let you all know the result. Its looking good..

    Fantastic
    Review by Zongoon 09/11/2011
I brewed this with 500g DME and 500g Brewer's sugar. After 4 weeks maturing it was a bit tasteless, but after 2 months it is simply fantastic! Smooth, with hints of chocolate and coffee. Recommended.

    Better than the pub stuff.
    Review by Big Timon 18/04/2010
This was the 1st stout I brewed and was well excited after completing in about 5 weeks I had a little taste - wow beltin, and speaking to regular stout brewers there saying leave for 8 weeks and you will get the max taste out of it - well roll on week 8 cos I'm havin a party - Its a bit like Murphys (maybe a little sweater) but I'd rather drink the home brewed stuff than the pub stuff (no disrespect intended) its well better.
Used dark malasas sugar 500g and dark spraymalt 500g and it turned out about 6.2% alc volume but there was no compromise to the flavour at all - recommend using only 300g of sugar to ferment and the rest to prime - think this will work even better but wont be as strong.
Have a go you won't be disapointed.
