100%Great Starter Kit
Review by Mike on
I've just finished my first home brew beer brewing in over 30 years. So I now can't wait for the Coopers lager to bottle condition and be ready to drink. -
100%Very good starter kit from Coopers
Review by Robert on
I have two of these kits and they have everything you need to brew inside (basic equipment, a can, yeast, sugar, bottles), except some steriliser.
It comes with Coopers basic Lager can, which is an Australian Lager (so its going to taste more like an Ale).

100%Easy to use and gives you a good start on your home brewing
Review by Anna on
The kit arrived quickly with everything included. Easy to setup and make your first brew. I now have some very good English bitter in time for the Holidays. This was a good start and I will continue with home brewing and in time move from ready kits to tweaked kits and then on to making it without kits. -

I was very pleased to receive my Cooper's DIY Lager Kit recently. I was pleased with the delivery time and the packaging. Also I was pleased with the freshness of the package and that it was not one of those kits kept in storage for a long to time which reflects the quality of Brewuk. I have given 4 stars out of 5 stars as there seemed to be a little damage to the box with the brew enhancer. As there were no damage to the box I can only assume it was place in like that. It is a moot point but worthwhile for the packers to take care. But still very happy with the service. -

Review by oranda on
I purchased this with a coopers english bitter kit, and ordered it at lunchtime on Thursday and it was delivered at breakfast on Friday, Amazing!!
I'm impressed by the design of theCoopers brewing vessel which gradually releases CO2 without allowing air to come inside and spoil the wort. A neat and well thought out piece of equipment. Its also my first time with using the PET bottles as I used a pressure barrel in the past, with varying levels of success, and now I shan't have to have a barrel perched up on my kitchen unit, and I'll be able chill the beer in the fridge. Not a prime consideration with Bitter, but I plan to brew a pilsner/lager next. Roll on Summer!! -
100%Best way to start brewing! Just add sterilizer!
Review by Seb on
I first bought this kit in 2012 and took my first steps in making my own beer. This kit has everything you need except sterilizer. Since I purchased this from BrewUK, I have made numerous kits and extract recipes. Its a great first step and the service from BrewUK is fantastic! -

Review by Gyro on
Having made my first brew at the beginning of the year, I've gone from strength to strength. I'm now doing my own experimental beers, using Cooper's extracts. My latest has been a double chocolate vanilla milk stout. Yum!
I'm looking at buying a spare tap and line for my micro brewery as I broke the last one through overuse. Can you tell me how to buy spares please?
Love your work ;0)

100%First home brew and much better than I expected
Review by Ephoscus on
I'd put my expectations low given this was the first brew I'd ever done, didn't expect the beer to be as good as it was - pleasantly surprised. Extra points for not needing any other equipment to get going, but can see how I can extend it. -

Review by Scott on
I used this kit to produce my first ever batch of home brew. The instruction DVD was straightforward, breaking down the steps clearly. The preparation was easy and enjoyable. The finished brew tasted great - even those who were a bit wary of the home-brew at first tried it and commented on how good it was. Definitely recommend this kit! Off to make my second batch! -

Review by Kevin on
I ordered the kit on Sunday and it arrived Tuesday I checked the contents and found the spoon was missing. I contacted Brew UK and they sent a replacement in time for the weekend so I could start my brew. The brew was easy to make just waiting for the fermentation to finish so I can bottle it up and enjoy it over the summer. Overall a great product and fantastic service. -
My first kit, getting on with it well
Review by Sbatch on
Brought this as my first home brew setup and I've been chuffed with it so far! Instructions are easy to follow and arnt to complicated which made the whole process really easy, especially for a beginner. The qulity of the kit is also pretty good, the plastic on the fermenter and the bottels is really durable and the collar makes cleaning a fair bit easier.
Just about to bottel up my larger kit in a few days then onto my next kit
Nicely put together well worth the price -

Everything was just so easy. Although it's pretty much a ready made do it yourself kit it still opens your eyes to how beer/lager is produced and is extremely easy! Now to grow my own hops! -
80%OK, but confusion over type of beer to buy
Review by Marion on
Hi - I bought this product and it arrived promptly, well packaged and everything looks good. However my son had asked for 'pale ale' and he says it is more like lager..... I am no expert, but I asked for assistance from two different people at BrewUK, got two different answers and still didn't get the right thing! Pale Ale is also known as IPA... and it isn't lager... -

Review by Lawrence on
Just returning to beer kit making after many years of not doing any and bought the Coopers microbrewery as it looked to contain everything I need. All I can say is it's brilliant and so easy to understand and use, I can see myself making many beers and it will pay for itself in no time at all. Highly recommended. -

100%Great kit - still use it a year on
Review by Mike G on
Got this kit for Christmas 12, it contains everything you need to get you started, and in my case to keep you going a year down the line.
The only thing I've changed are the bottles I still have the pet ones that came with the kit, but I needed more so scavenged brown glass ones, the other replacement is the tube to test the gravity sample in, it bent from the heat of the dishwasher.
Other than that I've invested in a fish tank heater and a water bath to keep the beer at a constant temperature and 11 months on have brewed circa 18 different (successful) beers.
Easy to use and a great starter kit. -
100%Everything you need to get started
Review by Victor on
This really is a great starter kit. If like me you know nothing about making beer, this kit is great. I modified the ingredients that came with the kit and opted for a better brewing sugar and better yeast. On the very least, look for a better quality yeast (safale or saflager) and you will enjoy your first beer. -

Ordered and delivered exceptionally easily. Bought for husbands 40th, he's never home brewed before. Very hyped at the prospect. Easy instruction..... Just need patience now! -
100%Really pleased
Review by Hickdive on
I'm really pleased with the results. It is incredibly simple to do and the hardest part is waiting to sample the finished beer.
I chose the Australian Lager to start with and it is very good, comparable with, if not better than, many commercial lagers. Definitely benefits from being allowed to mature for a couple of weeks beyond the secondary fermentation.
The only problem I have now is that I will have run out of this beer before my next batch is ready! -

The kit all arrived safe and in good time. I found it was really easy to get going and have just bottled my first lot of beer. Reading the advice on the forum pages was a real help I found. So far it looks and smells great and I can, t wait for it to be ready. Personally I enjoyed the whole process of making the beer and will be using the kit again for another batch.
Overall good value for money , easy to use, and top makes to brewuk for service! -

Review by chalky on
I bought this as a relatively cheap way to see if I could brew my own beer. I have found it very easy to set up and use. The only additional thing I would buy is some sanitizer. Otherwise you certainly have everything that you need to get you up and running. Brew UK are a good company to deal with - prompt, friendly and efficient. All of my newbie queries were dealt with in a friendly manner via the forum. Membership is a must. -
80%Easy enough to setup and start your first brew
Review by Tony on
I have only just started my first brew and found it a bit confusing the video is very basic and it would have helped if more detailed info was supplied, for example a rough estimate of the first reading after you have mixed all the ingredients, also the contradiction on how to use one ingredient, the label says swill the enhancer do not stir and the video says stir in the enhancer. Its brewing away nicely at the moment at a steady 22 degrees. -
100%brilliant for first time brewer
Review by Duncthedrunk on
First class service from the team at brew uk. New to brewing so after reading reviews on this forum decided to go with the coopers diy beer kit. Initial impressions very good. Brewed coopers mexican cerveza with bh1 supplied with kit and 250gms LDME og 1046 been in fv for 6 days now and resisted temptations to have a peek. After reading guides on this forum, thanks to all who have shared their knowledge, I have realised patience is a virtue and instructions are best ignored. Looking forward to tasting the fruits of my labour

100%Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy
Review by Yorkshireman on
After only previously brewing wine in gallon flagons I wanted to branch into beer and needed the full kit, well this kit has everything in it. Simple to set up, just watch the video - straight forward. The tub isn't too obtrusive that it can't be left on the worktop, the bottle filler is a neat idea and will save a lot of frustration when filling the bottles. Still in the middle of making my first batch (Mexican Cerveza) so this review is about the kit more than the brew. Even bought some flip top clear glass bottles which I will etch with personalised labels to show off the finished product.
.... and I can use the kit to make the large wine brews :) -

Review by Bryn on
For a newbie like me this was spot on! Easy to use, simple to follow instructions and does different types of brew. All fits back in box for easy storage and the carbonation drops make priming and bottling easy for a 1st timer rather than having to make priming solution. For anyone thinking about having a go at home brew this is a good place to start! -
100%Ideal introduction to home brewing
Review by Chucksnow on
Interested in starting brewing my own beer but with no idea about getting started, I did some research and ended up buying the Coopers kit.
With nothing to compare it to, it's a little difficult to give an objective appraisal but I found all the equipment to be well made and the instructions easy to follow. For what you get I think its great value for money too and would certainly recommend the kit to anyone interested in getting into brewing at home.
I agree with a previous review that the instructions aren't absolutely comprehensive (especially regarding how long the beer should be bottled for). With this in mind, and for an absolute newbie like myself, I'd recommend joining the Brewuk forum too as you'll get good, straightforward advice, no matter how daft you think your question might be!

80%Great starter kit
Review by Kenneth on
I think the kit is great: has good (plastic) bottles and bottle filler, hydrometer, and good (though somewhat unorthodox) fermenter, but the instructions aren't as good as they could be. A few things that have been recommended elsewhere, such as reactivating the yeast, initially sanitising the fermenter, keeping the krausen collar on, taking samples less frequently earlier, and making sure the sugars are well-mixed with the wort (mine settled out into the bottom :-() would help. But the equipment itself is great, and most of this information is online.
Beer-wise: I chose the Australian Lager, and if you do so note that it comes with dry ale yeast which needs higher temperatures (21-27) than normal lager brewing. You can substitute liquid lager yeast to brew at lower, more traditional lager temperatures. -
80%Great Xmas Present
Review by Lynda on
Bought this for my husband who has often thought about brewing his own beer. Order and delivery was faultless and arrived in plenty of time for Xmas. Hubby was very pleased with the kit and impressed with the website and has watched the DVD and gained lots of tips from fellow brewers. I haven't given the product 5 stars as we are currently in the process of brewing our first batch and so haven't tasted the end result, however I am hopeful that we won't be disappointed. -

Review by Nigel on
Very impressed with the whole kit, apart from the instructions, maybe need a more thorough review of times and temperatures. I've had the Bitter ale fermenting for a week now, and I would recommend another week fermenting. I also got the brew enhancer 1, which is probably more suited to a lager. However, each to their own. This is a great way to start homebrewing, and would I recommend it to others? YES, ) -

Hi
Bough this kit and although it is quite good here are
My thoughts
1 taking constant test drops the level down below 40 pints.
2 it says bottle and enjoy. Enjoy when ??? How long after.
5 stars if those bits get updated

Love this kit.
No messing about, ready to go in 20 minutes. No faffing with airlocks, It's see through so i can look and see what magic is happening.
Hard wearing good quality product. I cannot rate this highly enough.
Only downside is an absoulutely minute drip from the tap but i do mean minute, like 2 drops a week, still two drops of beer that i should get to drink... not like am a beer monster or anything.... -

Review by Tim D on
This is a great kit. It has everything including bottles, hydrometer, sugar, etc.
The only thing you need to add is water. Instructions were very clear and easy to follow.
I think the wort is the weak point. It produced a very drinkable beer at the end but I've reusedthe kit since with other worts and had better results. -
100%Easy, simple, does what it says on the tin.
Review by Marl on
A really great kit for first time brewers like myself, the only thing it does not contain is sanitiser. I contacted coopers about this and they said becuase it is an oxidising product and countries all have different rules for such items they do not include it. They do say you don't need to sanitise it the first time but I am a bit of a clean freak and bought some of my own stuff and sanitised anyway.
Anyway, i highly reccommend this kit. -
80%Four Stars
Review by chris on
I have rated this 4 stars as this is my first ever kit and got nothing to compare it with. It was a toss up between this kit and the Woodfordes and only selected this as after reading reviews this one appeared the easier of the two.
Delivery was prompt and I was impressed with the quality of the kit. I am only 6 days into the brew and could do with another FV so I could start another batch but will resist the temptation to buy more stuff until I have tasted this one.
Along with the instructions, DVD, I watched quite a few you tube videos and found this kit really simple to do. Strangely too simple if that makes sense.
Hoping that this is a success so that I can ensure production equals my consumption demand !!

100%Better than before
Review by David R on
I had the older version of this kit in Ireland (the one in the pics on this page with the screw top and airlock) and when I moved back to the UK I neglected to bring it back with me. I needed to get a new set so I saw this one again and decided to get it. The kit that arrived is very different to the older version and frankly, it's much, much better. The krausen collar thing is handy and the fact that you don't need an airlock is very clever as on more than one occasion the pressure changed inside as i was moving the old one and the liquid in the airlock was sucked back inside. Not with this kit though. :) Very impressed. Solid 5 out of 5. -
100%Great little kit
Review by Daniel on
I initially decided that I needed a new FV and after seeing the one included in this kit from other customers and YouTube videos I decided to track it down.
It appears that Cooper's only offer this FV as part of the kit, but once I had priced up the cost of buying another beer kit and the bottles that I had intended to buy the Cooper's Beer Kit became an no brainer.
The FV is a fantastic design that requires no airlock and includes a 'krausen koller' which is a bit of a god send when it comes to cleaning. The collar can slipped out once the krausen has subsided and is entirely optional.
The spigot is removable and very easy to clean and prep which is a massive bonus.
The bottles are sturdy and hard wearing and should last you a long time if you treat them well.
Overall this kit represents great value for money and should I need another FV at some point I would not hesitate to buy another. -

Purchased the Coopers Microbrewery kit on my father's recommendation. Purchased the lager kit to go with it. Easy to get started and very clear instructions. Easy to bottle in the supplied PET bottles. Had to open the first bottle after only 10 days and all family gave it the thumbs up. Probably will improve with more time but going down very well. A good tasting lager which cleared very quickly and has good head on it. Chuffed to bits! -

Well I can rate 5stars for delivery just 2 days. I have now mixed my first brew which was as easy as they said except the temperature strip didn't seem to work and had to resort to a dip in thermometer It is now fermenting and I'm hoping for the best -

Review by Vandero on
Bought this starter kit just over a month a go and I'm already enjoying my first batch of beer from it. As long as you follw the very simple instructions, you really can't go wrong with this. I couldn't believe how easy it is and how good the first batch of my Mexican style beer is tasting! Very highly reccomended for taste, price and simplicity. Cheers! -
100%Spent hours looking this was the best

They have the photo of the old kit up.
My bro spent hours looking at starter kits and bought this one. I didn't want to copy him so spent hours looking for starter kits, then bought this one. Couldn't be happier with it. It seams to be the only kit with a tap on it - which makes bottling much easier.
If your going to by extra ingredients/bottles it might be worth buying two starter kits. -

A very good way to start making your lager at home. The beer tasted a little uncrisp but this id due to me not secondary fermenting a a cold enough temperature from what I gather.Join the forum and learn how to become an expert. -

If you are looking to make lager at home then look no further. This is the kit for you.
The equipment is very good quality, the instructions clear and easy to follow and the beer turned out very good too although you do need a bit of patience as it takes a while to really get to its potential.
All in all 5 star and highly recommended. Just ordered 3 more kits and can't wait to try them. The only thing is I wish I had brewed more earlier as I've run out now. -

Brought this kit mainly for the Fermenter bin and the additional equipment. Was very pleasantly surprised when I opened the box, first thing I thought that everything supplied was of great quality. The best starter kit for any amateur by far! Great Value for money.
Would recommend a capper and caps if you prefer a more professional finish to beer rather than the plastic bottles supplied. An additional fermenter would be useful and sterilising powder. I've also brought some extra hops which add extra bite to the larger. Investing in some muslin bags is a great idea, they cost pennies and you can add extra ingredients easily.
For any starter I cannot stress the point enough of sterilisation to the enth degree!!! Its very boring task but when you finish waiting 6 weeks for a beer and its smells even a little bit funny you wont get the same wow factor off friends. -

I have been meaning to make home brew lager for ages and just hadn't got round to it.
Prompted by the article in the guardian I thought I really must pull my finger out and get this underway.
I decided to go for this kit as I do really prefer lager to be honest and the woodfordes microbrewery just didn't do it for me.
This arrived promptly and was very easy to use. Made the beer 6 weeks ago now and tastes great. This hobby is addictive, lucky the bubby loves drinking too! (or maybe not! :) -
