Great kit with everything you need to start your home brew journey. Highly recommended -
100%super bit of kit
Review by tallphi on
My first attempt at home brew and fantastic results, gave loads of it away to fiends and family to help them cope with lock dow and they all loved it, I was a complete wombell and put a note on the local recycling bin asking people to leave me some beer bottles next to the bin, took plenty of time to sterilize every thing and bought a bottle tree and bottle sterilizer to go with the kit. would highly recommend giving it a go

Review by gordonInPT on
Firstly, great customer service! Helpful on the phone when no one else was shipping internationally, and then the kit came quickly and in good shape with no parts missing or damaged.
The brew is easy to set up, and tastes great. As a first-time brewer I was slightly nervous, but the accompanying video made everything incredibly easy. Have already recommended to several friends, and will continue to do so. -

This is a fantastic kit to get started with if you haven't brewed your own beer before like me, mine is coming along nicely, smelling great, even if your still unsure as your going along thy have great help videos online to help you, or you can chat to them, the people at brew UK don't just sell you brewing stuff and that's it, they are also at hand to advise you if your a bit unsure as you go along, fantastic all round -

Review by Maxie on
Used to help my dad brew 30 years ago and decided to take it up again, This kit was an ideal way to start. Having done some research it was the best deal I could find. The kit had almost everything I needed.
The result of the first brew is a really rather lovely pint. I will get the Wherry again. -
100%Great starter kit!
Review by Malcolm on
I'm new to brewing and I didn't know where to start. Thanks to the guys at Brew.co.uk they put me on the right track. They couldn't have been more helpful. The kit has everything you need and Woodefordes is an ale that I'd be happy to buy down the pub. It's a lovely pint! I'll be ordering Woodeford's Wherry again soon....the only question I have to ask myself...'why the hell didn't I start brewing years ago? ... -

This has everything to get you started. Anyone looking to start brewing their own beer should look no further! Woodfordes wherry is a nice pint. The barrel is more straightforward than bottling for beginners too. -

Bought this for my dad ad he's over the moon. Staff were really helpful in telling me which kit to go for as well as the Ale type as my dad prefers a dark drink.
Would definitely recommend. -
100%Great beer, very simple
Review by Beer Brewer on
Excellent kit and really pleased with the results so far (I have had a sneaky taster, but I am forcing myself to be patient).
Really easy to brew. Kit was first rate, my only complaint is that it would be great to have an option to upgrade the kit to include an auto-syphon. Syphoning was a pain and it would have been much easier with an auto-syphon.
Have decided to go with a gain kit next!! -
80%Looking good so far.
Review by Richard on
Nice and easy to use- all of the stuff needed to produce beer is included in the kit, although I replaced the siphon with a better one that didn't need a suck to start. I would say that following the 2+2+2 method may work better than the standard instructions, which are a bit optimistic time wise. I had to put in more sugar for the secondary fermentation as the beer was pretty flat- the seal on the pressure keg was a bit iffy (moulding fault), I didn't notice and the barrel didn't pressurise. No problems and all is fine now- I used the seal with the other cap. Beer is still clearing, but tastes good- I ordered Admiral's Reserve and it has real body and flavour. Good service from Brew UK. -

100%Great kit - bought as a gift for son. Very pleased with the ease of use and quality
Review by Jamie on
Not having brewed for 30 years and introduced my 20 year old son to ales, i bought this kit for his birthday. As he works shifts, it took him some time to get started but with a little help from me we got things going and have produced a good tasting brew. The kit has everything needed and is easy to use. It took a little longer to clear that advertised, but the results are very good.
Now looking for a barrel cap to add CO2 when needed rather than the one shot cartridges. -

Review by Henry on
I'm a total newb to this brewing lark but this kit has all the bits I need to get going.
I did also purchase a large sauce pan to boil up my wort (I think that's the correct term?). However I don't think this is totally necessary, I was just told it's easier.
Very impressed! -
100%Slightly confusing instructions, but excellent beer - better than the pub
Review by ChrisHockeyLetchworth on
I got this for xmas and a few months later, one evening when my wife was out - i thought i would give this a go. The end result was superb. The first couple of pints (2 weeks in) were a little chemically - but after that it was really excellent. I couldn't quite work out how to keep the barrel pressurised properly (again - poor instructions) - so next time my plan is to bottle it all once it is ready - and then store it that way. Enjoy a great tasting beer. I am about to buy another lot of beer to give that a go in time for Xmas! -
100%Excellent value for money
Review by Christian on
Everything you need to brew a decent beer and all the equipment works without problem and is good quality. The only thing to be wary of is over-lubricating the seal on the pressure barrel - if you do, it will slip and the barrel will not pressurise.
For the price, the kit represents excellent value for money: 1.62 per pint and the marginal cost of the consumables thereafter. Around 50p a pint is very, very hard to knock! -
80%Poor instructions with the kit

All well so far. I have just decanted in to the barrel. The instructions that come with the beer are fine but the instructions which accompany the kit from Young's are poor. -

It's been easy to use, the kit makes life easy for a beginner, and it tastes great so far!
BrewUK service has been top drawer too. -
100%Excellent introductory kit
Review by Squashstar on
This is a really good introductory kit, with everything you need to get started. I would advise looking online for some hints and tips to use in conjunction with the instructions because there are some good additional tips that make things a little easier. The kit is good value too. It is possible to buy all the items separately for around the same price but as a starter set, you have the convenience of getting everything at once and getting what you need. -

Review by Shedmaster70 on
I have no regrets about buying this whatsoever, a quality, well made brewing kit with everything you could require. The instructions were easy to follow and everything developed in the specified timeframes. I look forward to brewing further batches over the coming months, it will, I'm sure, pay for itself many times over -

Review by Ian on
First time I've made homebrew for over 30 years, prompted by a gift of a Wherry kit at Christmas! This microbrewery kit has everything you need, and with some reference to the brewuk website it's been very easy to produce my first batch - still in the barrel at the moment but tasted pretty good when syphoning! -
100%Great starter kit.
Review by yrrehs37 on
I bought this as a present for my fiance, to add to his wine starter kit I bought him at Christmas. He loves it and is enjoying making his own brew. Apparently I buy the best presents! He says the kit is great for beginners, although the plastic tap on the barrel was broken so some of his beer leaked, but think that was maybe broken whilst screwing it on too tightly. Anyway our kitchen is like a mini brewery now with wine and beer on the go. Keeps him occupied though. Definitely worth buying ,brownie points for me! -
100%Great kit and a great hobby
Review by Alex on
I had one failed attempt at home brewing in the late 80's, but saw this kit and thought I'd give it another go. The kit has everything you need, although I also purchased an auto syphon. Not only was this an improvement on the one supplied, but it qualified me for free postage. I asked Greg if he could swap the Wherry for a Nog - I love dark beers, so the Nog looked ideal as a starter brew. Delivery was swift and I got to work.
The instructions were simple to follow and I had the Nog in the fermenting vessel within a couple of hours after thoroughly cleaning and sterilising the gear. I allowed fermentation 14 days instead of the suggested 7 and then it went into the barrel. I'd heard of a few problems with barrels, but armed with a tub of Vaseline to help seal tap and cap everything was fine. A great vid about the barrel supplied has been made by the brilliant Brewmaster Ben on YouTube.
Impatience got the better of me and I tried the Nog after only 1 week. It looked lovely, already had a fantastic head, but just had that slightly homebrew twang. A second taste test at 2 weeks and things were a lot better. Week 3 showed another improvement, but by week 4 it was lovely! It continued to improve - clearly patience is rewarded.
The Nog has now been drunk. I've subsequently purchased 4 more kits - Brupak's Steam Beer (can't wait for this one), a Festival Stag kit and Brewferm's Diabolo and Triple. On the horizon I can see my first extract kit in the form of The White House Honey Ale and then I'll be preparing a Christmas brew.
Aside from the fact that cost per pint is fantastic compared to pub/shop beers, it's an incredibly satisfying and rewarding hobby and I'm looking forward to brewing a lot more beers in the future. Another advantage of this kit is you can also use it to make wine apparently - maybe one for the future.
One last thing to mention is Greg and the excellent customer support. -
100%Brilliant
Review by BrewerNoob on
ideal for new brewers such as myself. Comes with everything you need to get started. Very easy to use although a certain amount of common sense is needed and the rubber gromet can be tricky to fit to the primary fermenter lid. The included handy airlock just about does the job but it will lose water or it's lid if the fermentation is very active so I'd recommend replacing this with a bubbler type before you make your first brew.
My first brew has finished it's primary fermentation nicely without any bother and in not particularly ideal conditions either. Will be transferring to the included pressure barrel tomorrow. -

Review by Emily on
my boyfriend wanted a Home Brew Kit for Xmas so I did loads of research this was by far the best kit available for price and quality. I typically left it till the last minute to order... 12pm the day before Xmas eve which saw the worst weather in years! Despite national flooding, high winds and road closures I heard a knock at the door at 9am the following morning! The Brew Uk team had managed to get it to me in an amazing time and at no extra cost. Massive thanks for saving Xmas!
we are yet to open it and try it out but great reviews on the kit and the company from the Guardian newspaper article gives me confidence.
Thanks!

100%Great Value
Review by David on
I ordered the Woodford Wherry Microbrewery from Brew UK and have not been disappointed. Delivery was very quick and it was considerably better value than a similar product I was looking at on Amazon as a Wherry beer kit is included !. As I was given a Wherry kit as a present already, Brew UK exchanged it for a Woodforde Nog kit at no additional cost. I have now kegged my first home brew and am waiting patiently until it is ready. Waiting is the hardest bit. I will probably buy another keg so I can keep a supply going. -

Review by Matthew on
Batch 1 pf Wherry has already been brewed, bottled and enjoyed!
Batch 2 of Yorkshire Terrier in the barrel for its second fermentation too!!
Great product, for the most part everything is of high quality and if maintained properly should last for years to come. Instructions are easy to understand and it literally contains everything you need.
If I had one criticism it would be that the neck opening on the brew barrel is too small to get a hand inside to give it a proper clean. I appreciate and good soak in the sterilisation will probably suffice but you cannot beat a bit of elbow grease where the 'scum line' sits to clear the odd deposit.
Overall I highly recommend this to anyone looking to start your own home brew. It does become quite obsessive so be prepared to spend the next month or so Googling every little detail to ensure you get the best pint possible. -

I received my order in Denmark rather quickly after my order - no problems there. It was all packaged fine and intact.
I would have given 5 stars if they hadn't forgot to give me my CO2 container.
Any way to receive one now? I am giving the set as a present, and would like to include this CO2 injecter as well.

I am pleased with the product, the only thing that could make the product better is that the fermentation barrel could do with a tap in it so that you do not have to take the lid off to take the readings. -
100%A lovely beer but needs patience
Review by Matt on
I bought the Wherry kit and it has all you need to make a good beer but make sure you check the BrewUK forum first as the Wherry tweak from Saracen makes it into something special. Don't believe the instruction that come with the kit, if you have the patience to leave the wort fermenting for 2weeks then another few weeks conditioning it is well worth the wait. I've found bottling gave a much better carbonation than the barrel that comes with this kit but it's really a matter of preference. The kit was certainly a great start to home brewing. -

Wanted to try home brewing and came across Brew uk. Cheapest site for the woodfordes microbrewery, and prompt service. Haven't tried the Nog yet! -

The service from BrewUK was great, the items arrived very quickly.
The kit is great and has everything you need to make 40 pints of beer, the instructions were lacking in clarity though (hence 4 stars, and not 5 stars), I ended up finding some videos on Youtube that were able to explain the process a little more. -

Review by Charlie on
Nothing I can say that hasn't already been said....spot on. Simple, clear instructions. I used bottled water from supermarket....they had 5 litre bottles for 89 pence so I got 5 which was plenty.
The only thing I noticed was that I probably filled up the air valve thingy that goes on the fermentation bucket with a little too much water to begin with but it seemed to blow the excess out until it found it's own level. I would say the water level is now just over a quarter full. It started bubbling within 12 hours of starting which I was surprised by based on some other peoples comments of 3 - 4 days to get going.
I'm about to order a second barrel from BrewUK so I can brew my next beer whilst drinking the first......seems to make sense unless you're planning to bottle instead.
I got the Wherry which is lovely.....going for the Porter next! -

Review by Kim on
Great Value - everything seems to have been included to get started. Instructions swap about from A4 sheet to side of box instructions, which is ok but does leave you unsure that you have not missed out a step. Finding a warm place to activate the yeast difficult at this time of year when our summer is cold but not cold enough to have heating on. Due to lack of summer warmth we had had to put a radiator on for a couple of days. However not a product problem just an irritation. Very excited about tasting our first pint. ;-)

Very easy to order, arrived quickly, no problems at all.
Started brewing within half an hour of getting the kit, nothing else needed; everything soooo easy. OK, you do need to sterilise everything, but instructions are great and included steriliser seems to have worked wonderfully.
Included beer is good, will order again at some point. In the shorter term will look for something with less of a cooked sugar (caramel) taste, but i will come back to this particular one at some point. All good so far. -

Bought this kit as a birthday present for the husband. It contains everything needed to get started and we have the first batch in the fermenter today. Delivery was fast - less than 48 hrs. Bought some extras on the basis of forum recommendations (bottles & more CO2) A bit of patience is needed now!! -

This is a really good kit for first time brewers like me. Everything you need to get going with a minimum of fuss. Got my Wherry brewing along nicely and can't wait to taste it. Only bad thing is the thermometer, which can be hard to read(maybe I just got a duff one?). BrewUK give a fantastic service, really quick delivery etc... Website and forums very informative and helpful. All in all would recommend this to anyone thinking of home brewing but a little unsure where to start. -

I used to home brew many years ago, then a change of address and storage of the kit meant thant it was a bit manky and I disposed of it, this new kit is pretty good, although I agree with many other reviewers, the strip thermometer is a waste of time, kit should include a proper one. Have not had the time to start a brew yet so can't comment on that, but I'm sure it will be ok. Postage was good, only took a couple of days to arrive, all in all a good place to start I think. Drooped a star because of the thermometer. -

I have just started to drink my first home brew (Wherry), and it tastes fantastic!! The last home brew I made was over 20 years ago, I have, just a couple of days ago started off my second home brew kit (Headcracker 7%) and can't wait to try that one. Will be ordering more very soon. -

First time brewing using this type of kit:
Well the fermeter has finished it's "blob, blob, blob"ing in the corner and the brew is safely conditioning in the barrel. What I saw (and sneakily tasted) looks good so far....can't wait until it's quaffable in about 10 days from now now. The beer kit was great, the equipment was good too....brew tended to blow the top off the airlock (stuck a bit of tape on to act as a stop) and the stick on thermometer was difficult to read. Apart from that this are ging splendidly....already planning my next purchase of beer kit and barrel (will try bottling in the future) - "Black Horse Breweries" is well and truly open for buiness! -

Review by Graham on
Generally this is a good complete kit of quality components. I am re-commencing brewing after a very very long lay-off. The quality of the plastic fermenter bin and pressure barrel is superior to days of yore, however, the thermometer which is an essential part of any on-going brewing is rather pathetic... it is a small piece of paper that you stick somewhere. For the money purchasing a 'complete' microbrewery, I would have expected a proper job.
Everything else is fine.
Thanks for the review Graham - I will pass this onto the suppliers.

100%Great product... But
Review by Dazzer on
The plastics in this kit are good quality and the kit does give you everything you need however the thermometer you get is naff. It's a piece of laminated paper. I have just bought a cheap digital one for £3.50. If you had to charge an extra couple of quid to include one of these then maybe you should. It is essential and I don't think a temperature sensitive piece of paper/plastic really cuts the mustard.
Also you only supply one gas charge for the pressure barrel but its nowhere near enough!
Other then that its mint! -

We bought this kit as a Christmas present for a family member. It's an excellent price when compared to similar products on the market and the delivery was very quick. A friend had brewed this beer for a Christmas Eve gathering last year and we were very impressed with the results. The upshot is that we have decided to treat ourselves to one of these kits in the new year and brew our own beer for a much better price than the best offers in the supermarkets. -

I got this kit about 6 months ago, wanted to leave it a while before writing a little review here so I could get to grips with the product first. I had Been meaning to get into home brewing for ages and I have to say this kit has been great way to start.
Brewing from the kits is generally super easy. So far I've done the Wherry that came with the set, Coopers Pale Ale, a Woodfords Sundew, Brewfirm Raspberry and I have a Muntons Wheat in the ferment now. After 3 or so weeks in the barrel or bottles all have turned out great.
I'm currently living abroad in Berlin for work and although I love a good pilsner or hefeweizen there is not a real ale in sight out here - so its been a life saver as far as those are concerned. Delivery from Brew UK has been decent, average about a week from order to door and reasonable pricing too. Thinking of getting a second fermenting bucket and bottles soon so can ramp up the production as all my mates here love it too :)

For the money, you can't go wrong. Simple, straight-forward to use. Practically idiot-proof!
I bought the Wherry version. Tweaking the kit instructions makes an already great product even better. Double the amount of time the beer is in the fermenter (to two weeks) and try not to drink it for a month after that - it will blow you away. I was amazed by how good it was testing it just after it had fermented!
Only real criticism of equipment is the hydrometer's a bit of a cheapo effort and there are no instructions on how to operate the airlock - it is simple enough but not if you're a first-timer no idea what you're doing! (for the record, just fill it about 1/3 up with sterile water and put lid on firmly).
They're just minor quibbles on what's a great starter kit though. -

This kit was my first attempt to brew beer since my student days and the results were much better! The kit was easy to use and after 3 weeks I poured the first pint of great tasting, clear beer. Review by tomparkes on
I cannot rate this kit highly enough! I had absolutely no experience of home-brewing, read a few reviews of this product and decided to take the plunge - if you are thinking of doing the same, just go for it!
Equipment is all great quality and does the job just fine. You've got everything you need to get going - the only thing I would suggest is buying yourself a thermometer and an extra bag of CO2 cartridges to keep your barrel pressurised as you work your way through the brew. Other than that, this is spot on!
My Wherry has been conditioning in the barrel for almost two weeks, and I've snuck a few small glasses in just to make sure everything is going to plan - it tastes absolutely beautiful and my friends and family have described it as "smooth" and "better than a lot of beers you are served in a pub". The instructions that come with the kit are not the best (no fault at all of BrewUK, it's the manufacturers) - and I would suggest that, like me, you trawl through the endless information that can be found on the forum here. The users are incredibly friendly, and helpful, and I'm already taking the plunge into extract brewing after just one kit, thanks to all their help! Have a read through the following link before you get started and familiarise yourself with the process - also leave the brew in the fermenting vessel for 14 days before siphoning into the barrel, in which you should leave it for a further 14 days to get the best out of your brew. Also, make the kit up to 21 litres, not 23 litres, and you'll get a much finer beer -
http://www.brewuk.co.uk/forum/topic/disc-new-brewers-faq-brewing-your-first-beer-kit
In short - well worth a punt if you're still on the fence. The beer is beautiful and all the equipment can be used again with other beer kits available on this site, or even with extract kits when you feel confident enough to move on. Do it! -

Review by Edd on
The last time I attempted any home brewing was about 15 years ago when I was a teenager. The results then were pretty dire but a friend persuaded me to have another crack saying that the Wherry he'd produced at home was excellent.
The kit comes with all the bits that you need. My only complaint was that the instructions were a little contradictory, that is to say the page of generic instructions sometimes contradicted the instructions on the actual Wherry kit. When in doubt I followed the Wherry instructions.
The initial brew in the fermenting vessel took about 6 days at about 18-19 degrees I think. After the initial fermentation transferring to the barrel was pretty simple. I then added the specified amount of sugar, screwed the lid on which I'd greased with vaseline as directed and left it for a few days inside before transferring to the shed.
While finishing in the barrel the tap, despite also being greased, did drip a little. No significant loss of beer but if you put the barrel indoors you might want to put something under the tap.
Just under 2 weeks after transferring to the barrel I cracked and decided to tap a little off to see what it was like. You need to be careful while the barrel is under pressure, if you turn the tap too much you'll get a jet of foam, best to let the beer out slowly. I had expected something cloudy and yeasty but instead I was surprised and delighted by a remarkably clear pint that tasted delicious. Very drinkable and my friends agree, I don't think the beer will last very long.
In summary : less than 3 weeks after receiving this kit I poured myself an excellent pint. When I get paid I'm going to buy another barrel and a few more beer kits. -
80%An excellent starter kit that is easy to use
Review by Jay_Booney on
This is my first foray into the world of beer making and I hope that it leads on to bigger and better things. This starter kit is well equipped and seems to be of good quality. I followed the instructions supplied with the malt extract kit, as I'm sure the brewer knows how best to prepare their own malt. One thing I had been confused about is whether I could just use water straight from the tap. The water in my area is chlorinated (not sure if it also contains chloramines) and I had read online that this would kill the yeast. There was no mention of water preparation, but I took it upon myself to crush half a campden tablet and dissolve it into my 23 litres of water before use. The primary fermentation is bubbling away nicely on its 3rd day now, so I'm happy.
The kit arrived very quickly and in perfect condition. It's also great to see responses from Brewuk to these comments, that's a sign of a fantastic customer service. I will be using this store in the future.
Response from BrewUK - Thanks for the feedback Jay. Water treatment really depends on the quality of your water but adding 1/2 a campden tablet will certainly remove any chlorine which may help improve the taste, especially in highly chlorinated area's. Alternatively you can use bottled water which can be purchased quite cheaply in 5L bottles from most supermarkets.

Review by Steve on
This was my first foray into homebrewing and, having just transferred to the keg, the result is already tasting pretty reasonable: can't wait until it has conditioned!
A few words of advice (that I have received from others):
- Consider getting an auto syphon. After some messing about with the supplied syphon, I bought one and it makes the process a *lot* easier
- Pressure test the keg (put a couple gallons of water in it, seal it up and inject the supplied gas capsule) before you use it to ensure it doesn't leak. I also took the tap out and applied Vaseline to the washer and threads as some people have suffered leaks there
- Buy some extra gas capsules!
Regards the Wherry beer kit, I would rate it as 5 stars and have just bought Woodfordes Nog for my next brew... -

You really will get beer which tastes like been from this kit. Nothing like the 'homebrew' you might have been offered in times past. I'm now addicted to brewing and have got an extract kit for myself and have sent a Wherry kit to my friend overseas.
I bottled mine and it just gets better and better with time. Superb after five weeks – but not many bottles left!

80%Superb, but a couple of niggles
Review by Lisa on
The Wherry bitter is excellent. In under 3 weeks you can have beer which is better than many pubs will serve.
The kit is good value, but no gas cylinder was supplied in mine (should be one according to the manifest). Also the pin valve seems to leak after filling with gas.
I would have given 5 stars except for these niggles, and I would not hesitate to buy another, just on the strength of the results of the beer.
RESPONSE FROM BREWUK - As you live in Germany we are unable to provide the co2 as its not suitable for air shipping and the whole orders gets returned to us as unsuitable for air travel. We do put this in the item description. If you pin valve is leaking then its probably due to the small seal on the bottom on the valve has come loss exposing the hole where the gas enters. If its still on the valve then just simply move it do its covering the hole. If its missing then we will send you another one FOC. -

Delivery was very prompt and nothing missing.
The instructions are clear and step by step (Fool , 'me proof'). Every thing I needeed was in the kit Just made up my first Wort ang 15 hours later the airlock is bubbling nicely.
So far it could not be easier. I suppose the item that takes most time and attention is the sterilisation of the equipment and area, but the complete process from out of the box, to pitching yeast, was about 40 minutes and I was going very slow, reading and re-reading the simple instructions.
I will continue review when beer is kegged and primed in the barrel. -

Review by Matt on
Everything has been excellent so far (about a week away from drinking the first batch). The process is so easy and quite enjoyable. The only thing I would say is the instructions are quite poor. Firstly, there are two sets (one on the ingredients box, and one with the equipment) which tend to have different instructions with regards to things like required temperature. And in general, the instructions for the equipment are poorly written, and it takes some working out for some aspects. Perhaps I'm just being stupid. Anyway, it's a lot of fun and like I said, remarkably easy once you've figured it out. WOuld happily recommend it to anyone!
RESPONSE FROM BREWUK - sorry about the instructions, they are supplied by the supplier. We will look to amend and improve them but please feel free to contact is on 01722 410705 or info@brewuk.co.uk should you need any support.

Review by Goldie on
I found this kit an almost foolproof (re)introduction to homebrewing. Cast aside all your doubts - things have clearly come on a looooong way from those painful and vinegary offerings from the nineteen-eighties. Dis kit is da shiznit (as the youngsters have it)! It went from 1040 OG down to 1006 in seven days (about 4.2% alcohol) using a brew-belt, and after just a week in the keg it's pretty damn drinkable. Meaning it bears more than a passing resemblance to the the stuff you buy in a pub. And hearing it's apparently at its best after 5 weeks conditioning, I was hoping I would be all grown-up and able to defer gratification - but have realised that's just not going to happen.

I would, however, recommend bottling once you have the hang of things. This allows you to brew 2 batches one after the other and really appreciate the effects of bottle aging. I made two Christmas brews using this kit and they are superb after 3 months in the bottle!

I was bought one of these kits for Christmas by my wife and I was really impressed with how good it was. She said it was delivered very fast and the ordering was really easy. I made the kit up as per the instructions and although I know I should leave the brew to condition and improve in the barrel for longer I really can't leave it alone and have got through a third of it already. That was a Wherry kit, and to say I'm impressed is an understatement.
It got me into Homebrewing again and I have recently ordered another kit myself - can double the production then! BrewUK were fantastic, the ordering was easy and delivery was much much faster than I believed it would be. They swapped the Wherry for the Nog kit at my request. Nothing was to much trouble. I can't wait to get the kit on the go. All the components are good quality.

This was my first ever brew and to my surprise I produced something absolutely delicious. It was easy to make, and was ready in a matter of weeks. Delivery was very prompt and all the equipment was as described.
Would recommend this kit to anyone in any way toying with the idea of brewing beer, or even just to those looking to keep their drinking costs to a minimum - one kit makes 40 pints so it works out as £1.50 a pint including equipment costs. As the equipment can be reused, further batches work out at only 50p per pint! -
100%Simply a great kit!

This was the first homebrew I made, couldn't be easier.
Wherry is a great tasting beer, Also tried the Great Eastern and that is outstanding.
These original kits are far better than the made up kits other suppliers use.
Go on buy one you won't be disappointed. -

Review by Paul J on
Having had no experience of beer making I was eager to have a go for Xmas. So after great reviews I purchased this kit and was it worth it?? 100% YES it is so easy to use and syphoned off into my barrel last night and had a quick taste to see if it tasted like beer and it had a lovely hoppy flavour. So onwards and upwards and the patient part of waiting for it to clear and condition.
To all new brewers try this beer its lovely and a huge thankyou to all who have given advice and tips. -

Great kit, great beer, delivered quick.
No more shop bought ale for me except the odd sneaky down the pub.
Get your next one before you finish the first though otherwise you'll end up running out and having to wait for the next batch. -
80%Better value than other supplier!
Review by Mr Haggis on
Ordered my second Kit from Brew after comparing to another site - the Kit was the same price - yet Brew offered a better package with more items in the kit included in the price - and the option of changing the beer kit.
I was really only really wanting a Keg and Beer Kit - but comparing the costs of individual items, the entire kit was still a bargain - had the kit delivered to my work in Aberdeen as the postage was free - as I live and commute from the "Highlands" I would be penalised the entire cost of the postage if I had this sent to my home - not the differance i.e the Free part taken off the extra Highland Tax!
My first batch of Wherry is now almost depleted after 4 weeks in the keg, made a really good pint, improving with time.
Perhaps with practice, the slight Home brew taste will dissapear.
Now have to wait fot the Great Eastern to finish in the FV, and condition - patience is a virtue.
Only complaint is the delivery time - ordered on a Thursday morning - delivered by Parcelforce 24 on the Tuesday? Oh, and lack of loyalty points to stop my custom drifting once I have all my brewing kit collected ;-). -

I was skeptical about all this home brewing lark but tasted some Wherry at a mates house and I couldn't believe how good it tasted. So good in fact that I took his advice and bought one of these the next day.
well all I can say is if you haven't tasted some you will love it.Homebrew has a bad reputation but its truely unreserved as not only is this stuff easy to make but its cheap and best of all its bloody lovely. -

Review by Mark on
I decided to give beer brewing another go after a very long (20year) break from
trying my 1st attempt at brewing beer (which was disastrous), and I cant believe
how much better this kit is and the taste is amazing!Followed the easy instructions and within two weeks I have a very very
nice tasting ale.
I poured my 1st pint and was amazed at how clear the ale was, and it also had a
head on it.. then came the tasting.... and I couldn't believe how good it tasted.
If I was blind tasting I would have said that it was a professionally brewed ale.
Even my girlfriend like it, so looks like I am going to have to keep it locked
away in the garage.I would recommend this kit to anyone who wants to make their own beer as
you will not be disappointed, absolutely brilliant product, get it now as the sooner
you purchase it the sooner you will be able to start drinking it.
Looks like I will be having to buy some more ale's to try as I recon this 1st 40 pints
will disappear very quickly.

All that I can say is why didn't I do this a few years ago. All that money spent on beer and I could have been making my own, which not only tastes blooming amazing but costs next to nothing.
If you are thinking about giving this a try, do it. The Wherry that comes with this kit will not disapoint and the kit is easy to follow and pretty much idiot proof.
Just ordered the Admirals reserve and can't wait to taste it. -

This has everything the beginner needs. Easy to follow, great equipment and the end result is outstanding.
Home brewing is the way forward. Great beer for very little pennies and minimum effort.

Excellent all round. Delivered no problem, received email with tracker number to follow delivery. Exactly as described, really good quality. I had a query regarding the actual brewing process, my partner rang the helpline and got put straight through to someone (uk based) who could answer our question. Great customer service before, during and after purchase. I will definitely be recommending this to my friends and will continue to purchase from this company. -

Ordered 2am wednesday morning. Thursday 12.10pm knock at thedoor-Parcelforce with a great big box!My beer system had arrived.
A really expensive looking box all printed with people drinking beer and I got to work.
It took longer to read the instuctions over a lunch time beer of course than make the kit up.It is a doddle.I waited for it to ferment and put it in the barrel. Kept checking it then drank it all in 2 weeks.
Cons:I hadn't made any more up had to buy another kit fast well 2 actually and another barrel, I'm stock piling.I'm on a roll now and will never run out of lovely beer again.I'm drinking too much hhehehe. They take 4 weeks till you can drink the beer.
Pro's:Turned up fast.Beer is good no seriously really good.Cheap.Fun.I'm saving money.

Review by David on
Except a bit of sugar, water and patience.
I opted for the Admirals rather than the Wherry and am over the moon with my first barrel.
Everything worked exactly as documented and the process was very simple to follow.
My next batch of Admirals is already in the bottles, and my first barrel is almost empty.
A great kit to begin with and I can easily see it lasting me a good few years, I'd recommend it to anyone. -

Review by bob1975 on
I bought this kit last October and its all turned out better than I expected. It was easy to use, took no skill and the equipment is all good quality. The best bit was drinking the beer. I had reviews about the Wherry and it certainly lived up to its reputation. Amazing, not a hint of homebrewed taste that I was kinda expecting. Everyone was well impressed so much so they a couple went out and bought their own kits.
If you are thinking about trying homebrewing, this is the kit for you! -

I had been thinking about home brewing for while. Seemed to male sense as I love beer and spend way too much money on it.
Bought this kit after reading the article in the Guardian and it was delivered next day - thanks Brew UK.
So I was making beer that afternoon and 5 weeks later its nearly all gone.
Tastes great and couldn't be easier. Just wish I had got some on earlier as I'm now going to have to wait.

I bought this for my boyfriend as he had been going on about brewing his own beer for a while.

Review by rhiannon on
I've been looking all over the web for this exact starter kit cheaper and it doesn't exist. There are a few other sites doing a budget imitation for the same price but the ferment bin is smaller and there's no gas charge or bulb holder. Really really fast delivery and it arrived in a fancy printed box , way better than I expected. I'm glad I splashed out on the real deal and can't wait till my lovely beer is ready.
Would absolutely recommend this as a present to yourself, family or friends. -

Review by Tjam on
First-timers, virgins, débutantes, beginners, noobs and those who haven't tried brewing before: This kit is what you need.
I'll be honest, it scared me.
A few days spent reading articles online, trying to find how, what, how, where and why I was going to brew beer.
I didn't really know what to do.
The instructions are simple.
The process is simple.
The price is minimal.
The results are great!
Its been about 3 weeks since I started brewing it and in a few days time I will have lots of bottles of beer.
Well worth the initial outlay!
Additionally, the forum on this site is full of people who know what they're on about! Do it!

100%It's so good.....ive just ordered another entire kit!
Review by New2brew on
Simply brilliant!
So so so so easy to do...take ya time, follow the steps, you cannot go wrong....the hardest part about this kit is having the patience to let the Ale clear properly in the barrel and not to drink it when its cloudy (although it wont harm you, it just tastes epicly good when its fully cleared).
Im buying another one right now so that i can have a 'rolling stock' of brews so that i never had to go the offy ever again!!
Get one ordered right now!...then check out the BrewUK forums for any help you may need!
cheers

BrewUK supplied a fast delivery, product arrived undamaged. I made the woodfordes brew up straight away, it hasn't cleared yet (2 weeks later) but that's because it is warm in the garage, not cold. I have made a brew up with this kit using malt extract and bottled it and it is superb! My dad won't stop drinking it all, 45 500ml bottles from 1 brew! Excellent kit, everything you need to start up. Highly recommended.
Hint for bottling - add 1/2 teaspoon of sugar to sterilized, washed bottles, siphon upto neck leaving about an inch to two inch neck free, cap and leave at room temp for 2 days. Put in fridge for 2 - 3 days to help clear, then store in garage for a week (give or take a day or two). Then say hello to your naturally carbonated beer. (Pour slow to avoid glugging, to leave sediment undisturbed, and obviously leave sediment at the bottom). -

A total boys toy. First class service by BrewUK saw my microbrewey arrive in 1 yes 1 day. Had the lads round to gloat at my ingenious new hobby. Jelousy ensued - they've all got one now but I was 1st!
Easy to make and understand for a brew virgin like me. 1 under my belt ,the 1st of many.
My beer was ready 1st naturally and me and the boys drunk it all last weekend in 2 nights. Gutted I haven't made more yet. Fortunate that ****'* is now ready to be devoured.
I love making beer!

Review by Richard on
A comprehensive and high quality kit, although the instructions both with the hardware and the beer kit are a bit rudimentary if you're a complete beginner. Unfortunately I've had problems with the tap on the barrel leaking, ultimately solved by wrapping plumbers' PTFE tape around the thread to seal it. This meant tipping the barrel over sufficiently to remove the tap and has probably contributed to the fact that the beer still hasn't cleared after five weeks which is rather frustrating! It tastes good though. Service from Brewuk was first class. -

You can't beat the great taste of wherry. Easy to make, even easier to drink. A good priced equipment set I've bought two of these so far as my hydrometer got smashed and I needed some more beer and another barrel and FV and steriliser so I thought I'd get another one of these.
Be patient with the wherry, it's fermenting out in a few days in this weather but taking a lot longer to clear. Use beer and wine finings if you can't wait or just leave it alone. -
100%The start of something beautiful
Review by Jimbooze on
This is a fantastic beginners kit. The wherry is very easy to brew and tastes great. Mine's only been in the barrel for two weeks but is a hit with drinking buddies. Only draw back is the tap on the barrel. I sealed the barrel lid and the tap to the barrel with vaseline, however the actual dispensing tap does drip when the barrel gets under pressure ( I've had to release pressure a couple of times which is not ideal). I suggest giving this a good greasing as well when you set up the barrel and put some kitchen towel under the tap in case you get the drips.
Top product delivered very quickly - I would recommend this to anyone.
Already brewed a batch of John Bull cider with a Coopers next on the list. -

I've seen this on a few other sites for £69.99 and £67.99. Was a bit weary as it is being sold a lot cheaper than everywhere else - you know that saying if it seems too good to be true ......but I've got to admit I'm really taken aback by BrewUK.
I actually ordered mine over the phone (double check there was somebody there) they answered straight away and it was sent out that DAY!!!!! so I had it the following one. Nice presentation box too.

This is a bargain
Review by Paul Smith on
I got this for my Dad's birthday, talk about making an old man happy. He was well chuffed. It had everything he needed to get going and it's got a really good premium beer kit inside. I'd give this an 11 out of 10. We are all drinking his tasty ale and he's glad he made it himself. It inspired me to have a go myself but I didn't want to spend that much so I had a look at what equipment came with his and thought I'd just get a few bits seperately to save money. That's when I realised what a bargain he'd had, anyway I've just ordered one but got brew to swap the wherry for an admirals reserve. I can't wait to taste that - only a week till it's ready! GREAT customer service by the way Brew I ordered mine on the Monday morning and got it on Tuesday now that is what I call service.
