Chocolate Malt Crushed 1kg

Chocolate Malt shares many of the characteristics of Black Malt but because it is roasted for a slightly shorter period of time and end temperatures are not so high, colour is 200° EBC lighter.

This also means that some of the harsher flavours of Black Malt are not so pronounced. It retains a smoky flavour but is far less bitter. Its main uses are in darker beers and it is used in a well known stout, together with roasted barley to produce a more mellow less bitter taste.

EBC 1050

Our Grains are supplied fresh from our local supplier Warminster maltings. We keep stock very low and get regular collections to ensure the malts are as fresh as possible.

We stock crushed malts but we can get any of the malts whole if required, please contact us for more details.

Warminster Malt is handmade using traditional floor methods, one of only 3 maltings in the UK still producing this way. The malts produced are of the very highest quality and the better the ingredients the better the beer. All around Warminster, the chalk soils of Wiltshire produce some of the finest barleys in England, and provide the best source of raw material for the maltings. Colour 1060 EBC .

    Chocolatey
    Review by Royon 09/02/2017
Smells delicously chocolatey. Only used 50g in an amber ale. What to do with the remaining 950g! Given me a good excuse to attempt a stout in the near future.

    Perfect every time
    Review by Tonyon 05/10/2016
Used in quite a few beers now and you can always taste the chocolate in the background - it's not overpowering at all

Well and evenly crushed. Pack is very well sealed too.

    Highly recommend.

Great colour and lovely taste... Not too chocolatey but it's definitely there.

As always, a great malt from Brew UK. Ideal size and a good quality chocolate malt with nice roasted character.

    Good malt
    Review by Tonyon 10/11/2015
Good malt. The bag size is perfect, and though some will probably be left over, the size of the bag means the remainder fits easily into an Ikea plastic tub to keep it fresh for the next brew

An under utilised grain, try if you haven't already
    Review by Davidon 19/08/2013
Used in small quantities (3 - 5 oz per 5 gal brew) chocolate malt imparts a pleasing warm roast flavour, not as harsh or dry as roast malt. It is also a more desirable method of achieving a degree of colour change than brewers sugars or artificial means. Keeps well too.
