    Good while young
    Review by Kristian Skinneron 07/04/2016
I've made this kit twice now; the first time I made the mistake of bulk-ageing it for too long. At day 0 it was rough around the edges, at 1 month a bit astringent, 3 months it was a lovely dry Sauvignon Blanc, at 6 months it was losing it a bit, and at 12 months it was like drinking flat American lager. If you're bulk ageing, would recommend bottling after 2-3 months, as it doesn't age well for much longer.
For my second batch, I was in a bit of a hurry brewing for my wedding, and my fiance likes a sweeter wine, so I used a Gervin white wine yeast (couldn't find a specific culture like the Cab Sauv culture I used for my moderately successful red) and when it had fermented to dryness, back-sweetened it with a tiny amount (~400ml) of white grape concentrate (enough to put the s.g. from 0.98-1.00), and even very young (ferment finished one month ago), it is fairly smooth (very mildly astringent) with a lovely citrus flavour, more like a Marlborough Riesling than a Sauv Blanc. I doubt it will age well with this method, but it makes it very drinkable from being quite young.
My only complaint would be that my S.G. calculations would put this at nearly 15% A.B.V. which is a bit strong for a white, though it doesn't taste too thin; I followed the instructions to the letter.

    Another excellent product
    Review by RichardHon 03/03/2016
Bottled this yesterday and already tastes as good as any Sauvignon bought from supermarket. Very pleased and recommended.

    Great wine - great value
    Review by Ericon 03/09/2015
I've made this wine a few times and it always turns out great (even sometimes when I haven't followed the instructions to the letter). Easy to make and it tastes better than many supermarket wines you can buy for £10 plus. Order two and you get free postage which makes it even better value.

Couldn't tell difference against what we usually buy from Supermarket
    Review by Terryon 12/02/2013
Followed instructions - wine turned out very nice - All the neighbours liked it and some friends very interested in now trying to do some of their own. Looking forward to doing the next batch. Only extra I bought was a filter kit - got this from Wilkinsons. Don't think I actually needed to as wine seemed ok before filter - but it is recommended in the instructions. Would recommend.

    without fault
    Review by Emmaon 06/06/2012
My first attempt at wine, I followed the instructions to the letter, was utterly retentive with cleanliness and the result is...

...stunning. If someone brought this to a party and told me it was a £15 bottle I'd have believed them.

I did also use a proper vinbrite filter which polished the wine beautifully. It would have been ever so slightly cloudy without this.

To say I'm chuffed with the results is a gross understatement.

    Excellent for the price
    Review by RTPFUNon 11/04/2012
Fabulous wine. Needs 3 months in the bottle to achieve its true potential. I’ve done 3 now and I consider this the best Sav Blanc in the price range. I had issues with my first one clearing. An email to Vine co soon sorted out what I did wrong (late transfer from primary to secondary left too little leas) so please be aware that you need to stir in the leas after fermentation has finished and not rack off before adding finings as you do with some wine kits. You also have to keep it warm above 20c for it to clear. (It is in the instructions. Not following them to the letter will cause clearing issues.)

    Worst wine kit I've had
    Review by unluckyon 21/01/2012
Tried this kit twice, both times wine did not clear, even after 3-4 weeks, ended up like muddy water. Could be faulty batches, will not buy this again, very disappointed. Thrown away.

Response from BrewUK - Sorry to hear that. We have made this kit several times with great results. Its probably down to either there being too much Co2 in suspension when you added the finnings due to insufficient degassing or something has gone wrong with your fermentation, either bacterial infection or too high/low temperatures.

    Really impressed
    Review by David Barkeron 29/07/2009
Not made wine at home before but thought I would give it a go as looked interesting and saved money. I was not disapointed. This tastes as good as any supermarket bottle for more than £5 and only cost me just over a quid. Its a bit of hassle/time to make so definately recommend making 30 bottles but well worth it. All my friends (and the wife) are really impressed. Only problem now is deciding what to make next, there is quite a bit of choice.
  • Wouldn't know this was homebrew
    Review by Dave Lawson 07/05/2009
Just bottled my first wine kit and I have to say I'm really impressed. Its tastes amazing, as good as any Sauvignon blanc i've bought in the supermarket. 4 weeks to make and just over a £1 a bottle.... well pleased. Started a merlot kit today so looking forward to tasting that one.
