    An excellent British bitter
    Review by Alanon 31/08/2017
Cannot fault this brew. I think that the wheat malt caused it to take a little longer to clear, but nevertheless a superb brew. Smooth, tasty drink with a good bitter taste at the end.

    Be patient; it becomes superb
    Review by Peter Kon 14/11/2016
We each have our own likes and dislikes and, having spent most of the lovely hot summer making lighter hoppier brews for friends and family, I happened across some bottles of BS Best bitter that I had made many months ago. Extraordinary.....It had matured in to one of the most enjoyable of bitters.
How wrong of me to have avoided making it for so long. This time I am definitely going to avoid drinking it too early (yeah, right!!).
Had the real thing in snowy Yorkshire recently and the kit is remarkably close to this pint of well rounded, balanced, gorgeous loveliness.
My reckoning is that it will be ready near Easter, but I expect that I shall give in and be trying it at Christmas/New Year.....

    Getting better
Review by Lucas Landlord ( The Guvnor)on 17/06/2016
As usual followed instructions, after siphoning beer to another keg, i left it for 2 months to condition, now sampling a few pulled from my beer engine pump, the beers really clear and smooth, and just made another batch, Thanks Brew uk

Black Sheep Best Bitter isn't available in bottles
    Review by Timon 28/02/2016
Looking forward to this very much indeed but those reviewers comparing this favourably, or otherwise, to the commercially sold bottle ale should be aware that Black Sheep Best Bitter, which this recipe kit is a clone of, is only available as a draught beer, and is never ever sold in bottles. Black Sheep Ale, a different product altogether, is widely available in bottles and presumably the source of the confusion evident in some of the reviews here.

    Very happy with this one
    Review by Peter Kon 09/12/2015
Really enjoyed making this and will definitely do another one at some point.
Have tried very hard to resist trying it too early but gave in a couple of days ago; very encouraging so far but it does indeed need time to fully condition. Tasted better, and more like the real thing, as it warmed up a bit (to room temperature) to be fair.
I have made this as my "Christmas Ale"; somehow I doubt whether there will be any left to see in the new year!

Followed instructions word for word, found it really easy to do. Bought a beer pump engine and now sampling a few, really enjoyable.

    A bit woolly
    Review by Paulon 15/06/2015
this is a very nice bitter and I will probably do again but I felt it was a little thin compared to the original. - just lacked that extra bit of body and flavour. Perhaps this was due to me doing around 3 litres extra so this may not be a fair criticism. One thing to note though is that the yeast (Nottingham) doesn't seem to be settling/clumping very well and is still quite easily disturbed after a couple of months. I'll leave the 3 minikegs I have left for a while to see if this improves. Maybe next time I'll follow Christopher's lead and use findings and the right volume.

Really good idea for the newby brewer
    Review by Paulwickon 25/11/2013
Turned up in good time. All ingredients well packaged and instructions easy to follow, appears a much better process than the standard kits. (still fermenting so have not sampled brew yet).
Would have liked to have some more instructions for the addition of the sugar for when bottling so the whole process is fully documented but phoned brewuk and was directed to the right part of the website to cover this.

    give it time to mature!
    Review by christopheron 08/06/2013
If I posted this review after 4weeks I'd say little taste dont bother. But now after a few months I agree with all the reviews A Cracking pint. I bottled and went for the standard yeast. Used a packet of finnings to reduce the sediment. Pours well what litle sediment i have is packed down in the bottle, Cracking head nice and clear...would stand up well to the real thing especially given the price (per bottle) difference!
Again Fantastic service from Brew Uk - please use the FORUM its a font for knowledge!!

A cheeky little number, full of......ingredients!
    Review by PHILIPon 20/03/2013
I really enjoyed brew night with this one: the instructions were very easy to follow, and even the wife said that there was a nice malty aroma as I boiled everything up. A little more complex (well much more complex) than the canned extract and required more equipment (my largest pot just about coped with it - and I'm going to get another for the straining process) including a decent thermometer and strainer. Don't be alarmed by the amount of malt, it does all dissolve in....and remember to to prepare the Wyeast in advance.
It's sitting here quietly bubbling away.....transferring to the barrel on Friday - then the long wait until it's conditioned.

Great beer - use the Wyeast liquid yeast!
    Review by andydon 28/01/2013
Prior to this brew, I had done loads of two-can kits and a couple of extract brews. All were OK-ish, but they still had a definite "home brew" taste to them. I had always used dried yeast sprinkled straight into the wort.

When I ordered this extract recipe kit I decided to pay the extra and go for the Wyeast liquid yeast, but I kept the rest of the brewing process the same. What an amazing difference this yeast makes! Fermentation was extremely vigorous with masses of krausen. Once in the keg the beer has cleared beautifully, and most importantly instead of a home brew taste, this tastes like REAL BEER, with a great flavour. As others have said, tastes almost like the commercial product.

I've since moved to all grain, but I will always be sticking with Wyeast.

    Pub quality
    Review by StuAlbanon 26/01/2013
Brewed this is December and now after about 1 month of conditioning it tastes fantastic. Haven't done a side by side taste test but I would say that it's a very close match to the real thing. Learned a bit about the brewing process since I did the Wadworth 6X (also reviewed on this site) and would recommend keeping the heat on (low setting) when mixing in the final quantity of extract to reduce the lumps that form. Can't wait to try the London Pride kit I bought in the same order!

    Indistinguishable from the original
    Review by TheDoctoron 10/11/2012
I was very impressed with this kit.

The colour is spot on and a side by side taste test revealed very little difference between the kit and the bottled beer.

Next time, I'll bottle some of my own to have a more exact comparison, but I love this kit.

Easy drinking, lovely flavours and home made to boot!

    Cracking beer
    Review by Timmehon 29/10/2012
I'm just nearing the end of my 1st batch and having conditioned for over 3 months, these last few bottles are nothing short of perfection! I have done a few side by side tests with friends and some have said this tastes better than the original, either way it's very close to black sheep and very easy to drink. I went with the Wyeast option.
