    What the actual..
    Review by Grazzabeerokon 19/10/2017
5stars of greatness. I label the bottles WTA and the kids ask, is that 'what the actual' but 'way to Amarillo' is the best beer I have had. Drinking it now so maybe I am biased. But seriously, for an extract kit, this is great. I keep ordering *4 times now.. because it's a) easy b) tasty c) drinking it now d) alloftheabove . Just order it, lovely beer

    Very impressed!
    Review by Catrionaon 16/10/2017
I was recommended this brew by a friend, for my first attempt at brewing. What a good tip! So pleased that all went well with it, never mind being happy with the result! It was fun, and not difficult. From my friends? "Amazingly good", "Really delicious", "My word - this is excellent beer!" etc. Nearly all gone now... ...

I didn't get the chance to drink much of this because my visitors loved it so much despite the fact that I also had Old Tom and Adnams Barley wine on tap too (which are also marvellous) and have Old Peculiar just put in a keg but need more Amarillo on the go....fantastico

Great looking beer with good aroma. (haven't yet tasted it!)
    Review by Ianon 22/07/2016
This recipe pack brewed out well and finished fermenting in about 12 days. I decanted it into a clean bin ready for bottling . It has cleared in the bottles inside 4 days but left quite a thick yeast layer on the bottom. I plan to leave it in the cool for at least a month to 6 weeks before sampling. Should not be a problem pouring out but may need to leave a little of the beer behind in order not to disturb the sediment.

    Review by Peter Kon 20/06/2016
Quite strong and hoppy, this beer is a firm favourite with friends and family. I am not sure why, particularly, but this beer distinctly improved with time, as did its popularity.
It is very easy to make, so is a great choice for first time extract brewers. Let it mature in to something quite special, though (if you can resist the temptation!!).

    My first Extract kit!
    Review by Craigon 12/04/2016
After getting about 10 kit brews under my belt I decided to have a go at extract. Having had some experience with hop additions and steeping grains with kits, this was really straightforward- no comments on the taste yet as it has now been in the FV 2 weeks, but the hops smelt lovely and I am hoping for a nice, 5.0% sessionable hoppy IPA in about 5 weeks time following bottling / conditioning!

    Great Kit
    Review by Peter Kon 12/03/2016
WTA is a great starter choice for anyone wanting to move in to Extract kits. It is easy to make and produces a lovely hoppy session beer; it has gone down well with all family & friends who have tried it. I will be making more of this one, that's for sure.

    My staple brew
    Review by Philon 16/12/2015
This brew is outstanding. So easy to make and clears in no time. It has become my main brew and is popular with guests too. My Brother-in-law just helps himself now he loves it too. I have made a stronger version for Christmas 5.8% but mainly stick to a lower version to keep it quaffable. The flexibility of this brew allows you to keep it mildly hoppy to really hoppy either way its excellent and always on my reorder list.

Always a delicious brew --- 2nd time doing this kit and ...
    Review by Davidon 26/10/2015
... always enjoy that lovely mix of tropical taste & aromas + hoppiness.

Sneaking a test after only a week in the bottle (that followed 1 week conditioning after priming), it's already forming into a lovely pint.

Recommended to all - if you are a fan of hoppy IPA - and, as with all BrewUK products, very simple to make.

    Way to Success & Flavour
    Review by DRBon 03/10/2015
Super easy recipe (using extract) to make. While I use a tea urn for the boil, this could easily be done on a stovetop, the recipe only calling for a 6 litre boil with malt & hop additions over an hour or so of boil.

This is My 2nd round of this brew (I've done around 10 BrewUK items now) and still a firm favourite.

    Scrumptious.

    Show me the Wahey!
    Review by BigAlon 05/07/2015
Not sure I've got enough superlatives in my thesaurus for this. First ever extract kit after about 20 standard 2-tin kit brews. Had my first bottle of Amarillo last night and I was blown away. Despite some newbie fumblings on my first brew day (rubbish 10 litre stock pot that wouldn't reach boiling point, clumping the malt in the steam as it was pouring from the bag, and it all bubbling over onto the hob - all solved now), this tastes amazing. Clear as a bell after just a couple of weeks' conditioning, great head that clings to the glass and a peachy, tropical taste that unfortunately makes me fancy 5 more straight away. I'm an extract convert, now got a Wreck the Halls on the go ridiculously early so the spices mature for Christmas. Cheers.

    Simply the best!
    Review by Kevthekelton 20/04/2015
I made amarillo on 1st april and bottled it today. When I made it, the smell of the amarillo hops just blew me away. They reminded me of brew dog punk ipa and I just kept sniffing the open packet like some sort of hop junky! I tasted it while bottling and was very tempted to down a pint, it was already that good, and the amarillo hops really stood out. I primed with natural unrefined caster sugar, about 85g for the 20l batch. As others have already said, this is a classic and so easy to make. I'm already planning my next one! Keep tuned for the tasting in about 10 days.

I love it and not tasted it yet!!
    Review by kevthekelton 02/04/2015
Having previously tried the summer ale kit, which was excellent, I thought I would go for a more hoppy IPA. When I opened the amarillo hops, the smell just hits you between the eyes. Straight away it reminded me of brewdog punk IPA, although that has a number of hop types but the overall smell was the same. If it tastes anything like it smells then I'm in for a good one. Easy to make kit, and it's bubbling this morning every second through the lock, which looks like the safale yeast is a good one. Only tip is make sure you have a large pot, preferably 11l or more as the final boil does get very active and foamy. I will update as time goes on. Very excited!!

    Awesome!
    Review by keekson 22/01/2015
I am relatively new to brewing, and stumbled across this recipe pack whilst browsing BrewUK looking for a new brew to try. It had had such positive reviews from pretty much everyone who'd tried it, that I had to give it a go. I wasn't disappointed. The brew was relatively easy to complete, with fermentation taking just over a week (8 days) after keeping it in a warmish room. I transferred to the barrel at this point, with some priming sugar, and moved it out to my garden shed. It took approximately 6 weeks for the beer to clear and be ready to drink. All I can say is, what a beer! Lovely pale ale, slightly hoppy (which i like), smooth, just delicious. Friends who have tried it were well impressed, preferring it to other bottled ales that they'd bought, so much so that inevitably it disappeared quite quickly! But no fear, on finishing that barrel, I immediately ordered another kit of Way to Amarillo, and started the brew off last weekend! Brew UK provided prompt dispatch and delivery, and kept me informed when elements of my order weren't in stock and let me know when I should expect them by. All in all, excellent customer service, and a brilliant beer! Thanks!

    Try this one!
    Review by Paulon 22/01/2015
This was my second extract kit and I'm a fan. I'd recommend this to anyone, once you've tried these packs the malt in a tin kits just don't come close!

As a novice to American IPAs I found this had a more caramel, sweeter edge to it than I was expecting but it was a good beer and with hindsight a little more conditioning would probably help (I don't) think this made it past 6 weeks! Personally I preferred the Sitra kit much more but I'd still do this one again!

This is the 3rd extract kit I have done and it's going to be a beauty!
Just took a gravity reading and it's down to 1.010 after 6 days so looks like it's finished fermenting but will leave it until the 2 weeks are up.
The taste from the trial jar was AMAZING!
Will definitely be brewing this one again.

Really easy and tastes superb. Will not be going back to kit beers. In fact I'm wondering how I'm going to get rid of the gallons of kit beer i have already when all I want to drink is this!

Mine is a bit cloudy, but I think it mainly bits of hops (yum!). Everyone I give this too loves it which has lead to me starting to hoard it (keep off: I only have 32 pints left!).

Will probably try to further boost (the lovely) aroma by dry hopping next time...

    First Extract - Best Extract!
    Review by Stuon 01/11/2013
This was my first attempt at an extract ale, it was chosen primarily because of all the fantastic reviews it has had.
Will be priming and bottling tomorrow (01/11/13), so will update this review with details as and when they are relevant.
One point, this went through the initial 'bubbling' fermentation stage for approx' 6 days, as opposed to the kits where the frantic bubbling only lasts for 2-3 days. No worries, still left it in the FV for the full 14 days, as instructed by all the wise sages on the forum.

    Believe The Hype
    Review by Andy Hon 21/08/2013
I was sure, after reading the rave reviews that i was setting myself up for a fall on this.
It went Pete Tong from the start really, the DME clumped in the wort, I brewed on one of the hottest days of the year and couldn’t get the wort below 28deg no matter how much ice I added so pitched the yeast anyway. Without a beer fridge and the shed being south facing, I fermented inside which still didn’t drop below the mid/low 20’s. Safe to say I was expecting a disaster after 14 days fermenting; after bottling and leaving to condition for a fortnight I took one of my sample bottles (275ml) and gave it a quick half hour in the fridge before sampling. I was distinctly underwhelmed, it hadn’t gone nearly as clear as hoped and was just, well, a bit…….Meh.

Fast Forward another 10 days and whilst in the shed I cracked a bottle open and grabbed a glass; what came out was an absolute delight, clear as a hermits diary and a fantastic taste, and mouthfeel, You must try this!

My first foray into extract brewing and simply, there is no way back from the Way to Amarillo.
Nice, easy instructions and the most incredible smell throughout the house during the boil. OG was exactly on point. I've just done my second reading today and the FG is spot-on. Had a cheeky taster out of the trial jar... wow, already. Lovely crisp citrus hop flavours coming through.
I'm just about to order another couple of packs of this, as I have a feeling this won't be in the bottle very long.

    Review by Starlerson 06/06/2013
Fantastic beer! Wish I hadn't let my friends try this one, supplies have gone down very quickly. Only mistake I made was too much sediment in the bottle, but I think that was more down to my inexperience. More recently I have tried racking off a couple of times before bottling and that seems to help. But, as long as poured right this was a fantastic drink.

I decided to get way to amarillo as it's a constant 5 star review and i can see why had my first bottle last night as i couldn't wait any longer to sample her goodness.

one word .... amazing anyone who has been impressed by a can kit try this for size i'l never go back to can's now apart from cider ones every now and again. Kit was easy to make and even though i did make a mess on the cooker my girlfriend enjoyed it too.

There is more to this kit than any can kit can match more taste more body more strength more everything so i'm now going to work my way though the other extracts and if there even half as good as this one i'l be happy as larry ( whoever larry is )

This was my second ever brew, and I was totally amazed how nice it was! :)

Great head, REALLY hoppy & fruity, soft and smooth, mmmmmmmm.

I was looking to brew something like brewers gold/Hadham gold, and went for this, and it is better than both in my opinion.

The only downside is that it is possibly too nice, so wont last very long ;)

Incredible taste - a superb first extract brew
    Review by JudeSunFloweron 29/05/2013
After many kits this was my first attempt at an extract brew. I wont be going back - the ingredients added an entirely new (and welcome) dimension to my brewing experience.
The flavour of this is stunning. Really good.
    But...
If anyone can tell me why I am pouring half every bottle away to avoid the yeast I'd love to hear from you on the forum... It is frustrating... The next one is going in a keg.
Hopefully I'll be back with a five star review next time around.

Brewed this as so many good reviews. Brewed as instructions, although short, FV for 3 weeks then bottles for 2 weeks (carbed as a lager). Result: SPOT ON BREW! taste of those hops is amazing. Finished my last bottle tonight so six seven weeks or so in bottle and am gutted they are gone! I have just cracked a F*****s lager and it tastes like dishwater after. Will order another but brew to full volume to make slightly lighter. Hoping to order cornie keg at same time so happy summer days ahead me thinks with this brew icy cold and nice and fizzy.

    Summary: AMAZING TASTE

My first ever extract kit and I was seriously nervous that doing the tiniest thing wrong would ruin the whole batch. Needn't have worried - the final product was brilliant. Fruity, hoppy, lovely. Syphoned into a second vessel to mix with a pint of priming solution (95g brewing sugar), then bottled. Perfect carbonation.

What a lovely brew, I really like Crouch Way Amarillo and thought (and hoped) this would be similar. It did not disappoint with the amarillo hops really shining through. Easy to brew, bottled and kegged and both did well. Everyone who sampled it liked it (but I didn't give many away which is always a good sign).
If you're looking for a summer beer then go for this one, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

    Bottle it!
    Review by Wavingdaiseyon 31/03/2013
I may be in the minority here, but I was left 'slightly' disappointed, but I think this is mainly due to the fact that I put it in a king Keg and couldn't chill it to where it needed to be on a warm day. For me it needed more carbonation and a lower temperature. Don't get me wrong, it's a good brew and I'll do it again, but next time it's going in bottles!! Some brews are better in a keg such as bitters and stouts, but this I can imagine is much better in a bottle...

This is the first extract kit I used and it tastes superb. It makes the canned kits I used previously taste like weak store bought beer. After a week in the keg it was an amazing drink and I'm about to place another order so I can stock up on this for summer. Easy to make, tastes superb and fun to make.
I wish I'd found it sooner to be honest.

You owe it to yourself to try it.

    Review by Johnon 04/03/2013
Much as I hate going with the crowd, I'm afraid I have to agree. This was my first extract brew, and what an introduction. I followed the recipe exactly and had the willpower to leave it a month before drinking. Citrus with notes of pine. The hops are really prominent. Amazing chilled on a hot day. I'm never going back to beer kits now!

    Don't forget the priming solution
    Review by Yogberton 09/10/2012
Wow! This is my first extract pack that I've tried after reading all the reviews and I have to say thanks guys you weren't wrong. This beer is another level up from the extract in a can method. There is so much more flavour than the other kits I've made from cans and it wasn't hard to make either.
I would add one point that may be obvious to most but not all. After making a kit which required NO priming sugar for bottling I followed the instructions and simply bottled the beer. After noticing no secondary fermentation I rapidly added some carbon drops to make the fizz in the beer. This could have been made more clear I felt as the other instructions were so step by step.
Overall a great kit and I will be ordering this as soon as it's back in stock. Love it!!

My first extract and I am converted
    Review by Paulon 26/09/2012
Well thought I would try extract after having varied success with the kits. Think there are a large number of people who use this as their first.

Very easy to make and after beer has been bottled for two weeks decided to give it a try. As other reviews have said it is just on another level up from the kits in flavour and that is after such a short period of time. Problem now will be having the patience to let it mature longer in the bottle.

    Excellent and simple to make
    Review by Dazon 08/09/2012
Not much to add that others haven't said. A lot simpler to make than I imagined and the result was far superior to the canned kits. Immense flavour from a straw-coloured beer, a bit different to your normal summer ales but in a good way, a bit strong coming out at nearly 6% but definately one to do again.

First extract brew, been in the bottle for 3 weeks, had first then second bottle tonight, amazing stuff! Golden, crisp, pub beer mouthfeel, lovely citrus hoppy taste, I'm well happy. Like everyone says, move to easy extact, the only extras you need are a £20 pan off ebay and a whisk!

Will do again, never doing a kit again.

    Review by Marton 17/07/2012
My missus and I reckon this is the best extract brew yet. I have not done a bad one yet since escaping from the two can kit club. The 40 pints just is not enough to satisfy beer demand from my mates. I started brewing to save dosh but since trying my amo brew my mates keep wanting more free samples. Im doing another brew of this straight away.
On a tasting note the missus says it has a kind of 'candyfloss taste'. I just think it is very very moorish! I agree with other comments and indeed this has not only matched quality pub ale but arguably surpasses it. Can't rate it highly enough.

I don't usually write reviews and to be honest, I usually take most reviews with a pinch of salt, but WOW! This beer really is great. I have brewed a couple of extract beers so far (starting with the Summer Ale, which was great), but this is a fantastic beer. I have another ready to experiment with - going for a Punk IPA style with some Nelson Sauvin, Cascade and Simcoe hops leftover from my 5am Saint attempt... If you are still brewing from kits, I would definately recommend this as the next step, it's really easy to brew (just need a large pan) and is as good, if not better than you would get in a pub. Happy brewing!

As with many of the reviews on here, this was my first attempt at extract brewing. I made a bit of a hash of it to be honest, but the end product is fantastic. Takes like proper, professional beer - no more 'homebrew' flavour. What a great way to christen my corny kegs.

Am going to make a second batch soon, but plan to add extra hops for added oomph. 50g of nelson sauvin, half at flameout, half dry hops in the FV. Going for a Punk IPA-style kick.

Every kit I have purchased from brewuk has been excellent, resulting in great tasing beers that are equal to if not better than those
availble in the superarket or pub but Amarillo is truly the best of the
best .It hasn't got five stars for nothing ,if you like hoppy citrusy pale ales just buy it, well worth the small amount of effort involved plus
the house smells amazing afterwards ( a mixture of horlicks and hops mmmmm).

This is my third extract brew and it is waaaay too delicious. Bottled it only 5 days ago after 10 days primary and 8 days secondary, crystal clear as it went in the bottles. Well, I was putting my next brew (my first personally formulated recipe, much trepidation here), understandably I didn't want to anger any brewing deities out there, so I needed a toast to the new brew. I had a part filled bottle from the "Way to Amarillo" batch and even after just 5 days carbonation the taste is sensational. The big problem is gonna be keeping my shaking mitts off it for a reasonable 4 or 5 weeks maturation..., well come on, my self control ain't gonna last any longer than that. Ditch the tinned kits, extract requires minimal extra investment but the results are amazing and (for me) this one is a fantastic brew.

Very disapointed with this brew, I bottled 40 bottles of this, left for around 10 days after which I tried 5 bottles to see if it was clearing OK, after a week of tasting around 5 bottles every evening, it was all gone! I would have expected it to last longer than this. I had to consume it fairly quickly as I had another batch on the go and needed the bottles. Also the explosion of fruit and citrus flavours in the mouth was a bit worrying at first, but you get used to it. Greg should do a 42 Litre pack. T. Cristie

This was my first ever extract brew and from the reviews seemed to be the one to try. Followed the recipe as best I could with one or two mishaps but the final result was out of this world. Pub standard ale if not better.

I need to have the patience next time to let it mature as the whole brew it was all gone very quickly. Ordered another pack along with a Summer Ale so I can compare the two.

Top Quality recipe very very highly recommended.

    Review by Kaion 13/04/2012
It's only been in the bottle for a week (after 2 weeks in the fermenter) but already has decent carbonation, pours with a good if not long-lasting head and tastes fine. Notes of mango in with the as-expected grapefruit of the Amarillo hops.

I know pales are meant to be drunk youngish to preserve the quality of the hops but I never expected it to be this good a week in. This was my first dry extract-with-hops-added brew (as opposed to the previous kits) and the difference is like night and day. None of the "homebrew taste", full control. Extract brewing is super easy once you have a big enough pot. If you've been brewing from tinned kits from before, you've got all the rest you need!

    Review by Carrutherson 07/04/2012
Outstanding taste. My first time making beer from extract and the result totally exceeded expectations. Even after only ten days in the bottle it's a superbly refreshing and balanced ale (the amarillo hops give it a grapefruity zinginess), and word has it that it improves if you leave it for a month or so. Problem is I'm unlikely to find out as the stock will get drunk in no time. Solution: make some more!

This is so good, I have to add my name to the list of fans. The extract blew me away; drink it young and have a really light, citrus hoppy, thirst quenching beer and let it age for an amber, slightly more complex pale ale, but still (too) drinkable beer. I've just brewed the AG version and can't wait. This is the one to beat.

In a nutshell this "kit" is far too good to be described simply as homebrew. Its easy to make and the results are amazing. Mine was only in the bottle for a week before I taste tested it, which is vital as every home brewer knows, ahem, and lets just say the next kit was ordered within 10 minutes. Gorgeous

The results are outstanding, and for the price (3 packs of DME cost over £21 so you get the hops and yeast for £2!!!) you really can't complain.
