I made a small tweak and used Wyeast 1272 American Ale II - 15 days fermentation at 18 degrees C, bottled at 5.2% ABV. Conditioned for 12 days at 20 degrees then cellared. Stunningly good right away. (Posted on 04/02/2014)

  5. Fantastic job Review by eezygeezer

I found this a little sweeter than the proper "Proper Job" - but otherwise very close. This is set to become my stock IPA. Gorgeous pint - a must brew! (Posted on 06/09/2013)

  6. Amazing! Review by Oliver
    Rating

I made this as my first ever extract kit and third ever beer. It was a step forward in my home brewing and the taste is unbelievably good.

I've compared it to a real Proper Job and they are very close. I would recommend it to anyone who likes a good beer. (Posted on 20/08/2013)

  7. Simply the best! Review by Maccas
    Rating

This is a superb beer. An absolute blinder. I have made quite a few extract beers from BrewUK and apart from the odd disaster, they have all been good. Way To Amarillo was a really good brew which I didn't think could be beat BUT Proper Job takes home brewing a step further. It is simply the best. Easy to brew (easy for new comers to extract as well) and results in a really tasty hoppy beer. Summer and Proper Job, the perfect combination. (Posted on 25/06/2013)

  8. Proper Job! Review by Andy H
    Rating

This was my 1st extract kit since moving from tweaked canned kits, and what a difference!
The boil was relatively simple, even given the amount of varieties of hops and boil times. A minor hiccup occured after a couple of unusually warm days and nights when the lid blew off the FV but after 2 weeks fermenting and another fortnight in the bottles, i could wait no longer.
Its a world away from canned kits, fresh, and very hoppy; highly commendable, Brew UK (Posted on 21/06/2013)

  9. Incredible Review by sandimas

I was a little disappointed at the start, as this started out too sweet, but I was too hasty. Bottle it all and lock it away for 3 months and you will have an amazing beer, I've done quite a few of the BrewUK Extract kits and this is the best so far. (Posted on 16/06/2013)

  11. The beer that got me into home brew Review by Lightning
    Rating

A friend of mine gave me a bottle of his proper job.
I loved it so much I got myself the brewing equipment and had a go.
The extract kits are really easy to do and the results are fantastic.
I love this proper job recipe, it's my sort of ale, hoppy and citrusy. Personally I prefer mine to the original. It seems to have more body. But I may have proud brewer syndrome.
I've done several other brews since, all good, but I'll brew this one again for sure.

  12. Wow....Read on... Review by Wavingdaisey
    Rating

Well I have been brewing now for 3-4 years, I tried kits, then tweaked kits and then went over to extract brewing. My first two were a little disappointing..Summer Ale (I hadn't calibrated my fermentor and added a litre or so too much which left it very thin (but maybe it just wasn't my style of beer?)
I then went for a WTA after reading all the great reviews. Again slightly disappointed... this time I choose to keg it. It just didn't have the bite is was looking for and I couldn't chill it down enough. For me WTA need to be bottled, and I will try it again soon. Next I tried my own Bathams Bitter extract brew (Mr. Bean style- only boiling the hops not the DME. I tried this recipe 3 times...It failed to ferment for some unknown reason on all three occasions. It was a joy to make but I never got to taste it. My New Year resolution was to only brew beers I actually like. I'm a hop head, I love Goose Island and pretty much all of Brewdogs brews- Real heavy hitters in the hop department. So I thought....Proper Job may be worth a go....I'll give it one last go....
This is the best beer I have ever made. It's strong, has a fantastic body, and the smell well, it's amazing. The hop punch and aroma is awesome. This has only been in the bottle two weeks and still has a slight haze but things can only get better from here.
Basically, if you like a hoppy strong beer, then get some on the go. It's a doddle to make, only a 60min boil which will keep 'her in doors' from moaning about the smell like the other 90min boils. And if you like Brewdog beers your in for a treat. My faith in extract has been restored. Praise the lord. The Hop lord.
Next Stop Simcoe with extra hops!

Well this is a fantastic recipe producing a beer that I cannot fault - hard to see where you could go wrong with this recipe and I am happily supping my way through the results after it has been 2 months in the bottle - this one will definitely go on the must brew again list. (Posted on 25/03/2013)

  14. Proper good! Review by Goliath
    Rating

This kit was a long time coming, but well worth the wait. The mountain of hops gave an amazing aroma while brewing, and after pitching the yeast it smelled just like Proper Job! The conditioned beer itself was very close to the real thing, and I couldn't ask for more without actually buying a bottle of it. Insanely drinkable, it didn't last long at all and I'm now fermenting my second batch while I'm building my new AG set up! (Posted on 19/02/2013)

  15. Quality hops & yeast producing a very promising brew Review by Howard
    Rating

The freshness of the hops and the quality of the yeast supplied are the best I have recieved in 25 years of brewing.
I have sampled St. Austell Proper Job recently in Plymouth. Although the brew needs another week to reach its prime, it is an excellent copy.
I will definitely buy this again and would recommend it to any home brewer. (Posted on 23/01/2013)

  16. Advice Review by Ullathorne

Is this possible for a complete beginner ?

Response from BrewUK - Yes its easy, you just need basic brewing equipment (fermenter, hydrometer, steriliser, syphon) and a large pan and strainer. (Posted on 12/01/2013)

  17. Excellent Review by Compo
    Rating

Follow up from previous review part way through. The beer has now settled nicely in the corny, very similar to the real thing, got the abv at 5.4%. Clear, lovely hoppy floral beer, used nottingham danstar yeast, did ferment a little warm (22') but this doesnt seem to have affected too much. Would recommend this , little more expensive, but good, and will be a welcome addition to the household this Xmas!

  18. Powerfull Review by Dangerous1

This is my favourite ale. I do find the recipe to be very similar to the real thing if not a tad to much stronger than the real thing. My brew came out at 5.64% ABV. Definatley not for the faint hearted and should be drunk at the end of a session in my opinion. (Posted on 16/12/2012)
