Homemade Copper imersion chiller help

Postby beerlover1983 » Mon Jan 09, 2012 8:20 pm

I think its high time i get a wort chiller .
Couple of questions i extract brew at present in a smallish stockpot so if i male my own chiller i can get the tight size but is there a standard of how much of the coil is in the wort etc ?.For when i move to bigger boiler etc.
And how do you get the other end of the pip up through he chiller without neding or kinking it.
I resisiting the urge to buy one as the cost to make one seems to be so much better than ready made ones.
And does size and length of the pipe matter ?

SWMBO says yes 8O
I made one with the help of my plumber BIL. 10m of 10mm copper coiled pipe. Wrapped around a large oxy cylinder and finished off with a pipe bender. Took about half an hour.

BIL picked it at trade for me... I recall this came up on here a short time ago and someone posted some online links to recommended suppliers... I'll see if I can find it again :?
