bantzYeast not settling in bottles!

1 year ago | bantz (Member)

Hi all,
My Summer ale extract has been in bottle for a good 5-6 weeks now, in some bottles the yeast has settled but gets disturbed VERY easily, in other bottles there are some suspended particles that i can see when i hold it up to the light.
I have had these all fridged since two weeks after bottling, i have tasted a couple of the clear ones, they are fine but do bring out some of sediment. I used Safale S-04 Yeast that came with the extract pack.
Any ideas when the yeast may settle properly, or is this the best im gonna get?
On a better note, my woodfordes wherry has nearly cleared (after 8+weeks) and my Smugglers gold (made using S-04 Yeast) is almost clear after 5 weeks.

Beers a funny thing init! S-04 normally compacts fairly well (imo) making it a good choice for bottling. Take a few out the fridge and leave at room temp to see what happens.

Chill haze may be the cloudyness but as for the sediment, just be careful when you pour, do it in one go slowly and leave a couple of cm beer in the bottle, that way you can minimise the amount of yeast poured out.

    Have you tried it yet?

Bantz, where have you got them stored as its quite warm at the moment which really doesn't help getting the yeast out of suspension.

    Planning:Maybe a lager.

Hey Bantz.. I think Nath may have hit the nail on the head with the Chill Haze (especially if you have them 'stored' in a 'fridge - google it.

Try taking one out of the 'fridge for 6+ hours and see if it is still hazy when you pour it

Beer will get you through the times of no money better than money will get you through the times of no beer

The bottles have been stored in the fridge, they taste great, the summer ale is really quite hoppy! As time has gone on, like everyone says, it does get better and better. Gonna have to get more barrels, or drink quicker! I never thought that would a problem! The haze ain't really a problem and i was aware of it's possible presence, there are actual particles suspended in some bottles. Very bizarre

Its probably from the crystal malt. You could try straining through something finer to catch more of the particles.

    Planning:Maybe a lager.
