TonyWychwood: Goliath

One of the best beers I've had from a bottle in a long long time. Highly recommended.

I'm pretty sure I've tried that one at some point. Is it quite a dark beer?

    Planning:Maybe a lager.
    Fermenting:
    Conditioning:Pale with Styrians
    Drinking:Cascade Pale Ale, Summer Lightning

Not overly dark, about the same as hobgoblin. All the Wychwood beers I've tried have very similar undertones (as does my perfect cousin :o)). Morrisons are the only place I've seen it for sale, they had an excellent selection in the one near my parents' in Devon. My brother and I bought 'a large selection' but unfortunately can't remember most of the names - 'occupational hazard' it would seem!
    I do remember:
Piddle in the Hole - unremarkable, may be nice as a light beer in the summer
Wychcraft - very similar to hobgoblin
Summer Lightening - a classic beer
Cornish Ale - nice, light beer
    and on
    and on
    and on.

I think we bought 19 different ones. I'd recommend a visit to Morrison's if you have one nearby.

You cant go wrong with any beer from this brewery, many a happy sunday evening spent after cricket supping their ales, dont want to cause world war 3 but anybody tried the cider over here its a princely sum of $8.50(about 4 quid)so could be a while!

I've seen the Green Goblin in one of our locals but never tried it. $8.50 (more like £5.00) is steep though! No idea what it costs here

Goliath ( Wychwood Brewery ) wonderful taste and after taste. I've been buying it at Tesco 3 for £4 ( 500ml bottles ) but when Lidl have their offers on they stock Hobgoblin and Spitfire amongst others at £1 a 500ml bottle I do buy these. Did you see u-tube video Camerons visit to the USA, giving his gift of a bottle of Hobgoblin to the President?

Hobgoblin is exported to the USA by the Wychwood Brewery.
Wychwood is one of the great all-round brewers, producing beers for every occasion. My all-time favourite is Hobgoblin which, I suppose, might be considered a winter's drink, (although I drink it all year round!), along with the dark Goliath. They also brew some lovely refreshing summertime ales such as Wychcraft, Scarecrow and the honey-flavoured Bewyched. Brakspear beers are also brewed at the same brewery where Brakspear Oxford Gold and Brakspear Triple are outstanding.
New from Wychwood is King Goblin which I'm looking forward to trying....but can't get my hands on!!!!!
Give them a try, I'm sure you'll find something that you'll enjoy.
    Cheers,
    Will.

I couldn't agree more with Tony or Nath. Morrisons in Norwich have a huge selection. I used to think Tesco had a good selection but they're on a mission to make ale disappear. Their selection has slowly diminished by a vast amount. Plus it's moving further and further down the beer aisle. L**ger is taking over

Love Goliath, I'm constantly disappointed with bottled beers tbh as I find them too fizzy and not a patch on the real deal. Goliath however is a really nice beer, it's just a shame they've stopped doing it in 660ml bottles and have conformed it to 500ml along with the rest! It should be Goliath in size as well as name and taste!

My local Morrison's is stocking King Goblin atm - but I'm not overly keen on 6%+ beers so I've not tried it yet. Might be nice though, the local Wethy had it on draught a few weeks back but it had gone by the time I got to the bar.

    @ Neil -

Just visited the site, what a superb website! I've not seen it before. It's really made me want a Hobgoblin now...I'll have to wait until next Autumn before it makes another appearance at my local though

I've just bought a hobgoblin selection box for Xmas. Its got Goliath, Wychcraft, Scarecrow and Hobgoblin.

Just sampling a Goliath and very nice although it does seem to have a slight metallic aftertaste, may just be my taste buds today.

    Planning:Maybe a lager.

Wychcraft is my favourite. I've been wanting to taste Scarecrow for a bit but never see one in any stores.
