VarnishWurzel Orange wine

2 years ago | Varnish (Member)

I managed to score some Demi-johns from a friend's garage.

He said, "you can have them weird bottles you was looking at the other day if ya like".

I've decided to put them to use right away, after a good cleaning that is.
This orange wine has quite a big following on the internets, so I thought I'd knock some together with the hope of it being ready for Christmas.

1 litre orange juice.
1 litre white grape juice.
1½ lb sugar.
1 tsp nutrient
General Purpose yeast
½ tsp tannin
1 tsp Pectic Enzyme
1 tsp glycerine
Water to 1 gallon

Stolen from here:

I'll let you know how it turns out.

I made a batch of wine in earlier this year using half of this: http://www.whittard.co.uk/store/catalogue/Instant-Tea-P4000/Turkish-Apple-110262.raa

    heres the recipe:
Half a tub of Wittards Instant Turkish Apple Tea
extra bit of sugar (the instant tea has sugar in) to top it up to a reasonable SG
    a TSP Citric acid
    Yeast nutrient
    Yeast
    Water to 1Gal

    Just made up.

    Cleared!

At first it was harsh and not nice and it was left to mature, we had a bottle last night and it was well v.nice!! I'm going to get another batch on the go early next year! oh and I didn't pay £5 for the tub of tea! it was around £2.50 as I live close to Boundry Mill and theres a Whittards section in there! might pick up a Mango & Passion Fruit when im in the store next time!

    TEA NEVER TASTED SO GOOD!!!

    How's the wine going Varnish??

I went to Boundary Mill today and picked up a Mango and Passion Fruit tub of tea for £3.50, that will make 12 bottles! and still got half a tub of Turkish apple to make, so thats my next 3gal's of wine sorted! Just waiting until school hols then mother can rack my country wines for me all 15 demi-johns! (I can't lift or crouch/crawl down under the table to get them from where they are maturing)
