water treatment
Gday from the land of the long white cloud
Finally got me well water test results back
Ca 10.5mg/ltr
Mg 1.1mg/ltr
Na 2.4mg/ltr
SO4 3.4mg/ltr
Cl 2.0mg/ltr
HCO3 36.4mg/ltr-this is confusing as how does it stack up against CaCO3 as a measure of total alkalinity any ideas.
Been playing on beersmith(truly brilliant)but i reckon if i read things right im in the right zone for american style beers but need to adjust for english style bitters .Anyway any advice from out there would be gratefully received
Happy brewing

Hi Otter, that's very soft water you have there so should be good for pale ales, just need to add some gypsum.
I use the online calculator at http://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk, just enter your readings then select total water required and style of beer and it will do all the calculations for you. Simple. It has HCO3 so you should be fine.
Should make things easy for you.
