Vidine
Hi guys. Got my hands on some Vidine, which I ordered off the 'net. Saw a good post on the forum regarding using Vidine. Just a couple of questions though - what contact time is needed to effectively sterilise brew equipment ? Anyone else have any good tips or advice on using it? Cheers, H

30 sec is minimum contact time and as for tips just remember that it can be re-used, so if you swill it round ya fv, then ya keg you can always put it in a spray bottle and use it again to spray your bits n pieces and bottles. Great stuff and a bottle will last you ages and ages.

another tip .... only use it as long as it has colour, once mixed it has a relatively short life span. I only use mine for a couple of days, then chuck it and mix up a fresh batch. I believe it will last longer if you mix a little citric acid with it.

Mr H
Where did you buy this from? I spend a small fortune on VWP and might look to change, especialy as you dont need to rinse

Got mine from here
Videne
Hope you don't mind me jumping in Mr H!
Oh .. another thing I should say .. I always rinse mine .. just a quickie, but I can smell it so I give it a quick rinse.

Nice one Tony. Got mine from the same place. Really fast delivery as the Vidine arrived early morning the next day. Made some up and it looks the business! I added some citric acid also. Gave it a test run on a cup and then filled with water and could not detect any smell or taste when drinking from it. Good stuff Gazz, well worth buying and like you i used to spend a fortune on steriliser. Will use it on Summer Lightning clone brew tomorrow. Cheers for your answers and help guys. Howard

Thanks Guys
Would it be ok to use on stainless steel? ie Corny Keg
Posted 1 year ago by Moderator
Ohhhhhhhh yes. In fact as vwp and other chlorine based cleaners can pit steel its better for it. Thouigh when I use it for the corny I make a slightly stronger soloution (1ml per 500ml) shake well to cover all areas, gas her up attached the pipe and tap and run the liquid through the whole system. Then I add boiled water and replace the cap so the steam pressurises the keg and reun that through, then a rinse with cold water. Corny, pipes and tap all clean with no taste!

I plan to use this on my next brewing is it really ok to use on fv and barrels as i thoaght product would stain the vessels or does that not really matter.
Oh and how do people get off the old dried crusty head thats left on the side when cleaning up your fv's im sure you can use a scourer and it even seems to have stained the fv like a tide mark.

I would never use a scourer on plastic fv's as you dont want scratches as scratches can harbour nastie bacteria
I find that some of my fvs are stained but thats because Ive had em for ages. A good overnight soak in VWP will normally sort it out. As for the scrum a j-cloth and hot water has always done it for me.

When your videne is mixed, it should look like VERY weak tea, there's no way that it could stain anything

I use a non scratch scouring pad and they work great. I use the same on my burco with no scratches.

just read on another site not to sterilise a syphon tube with any chlorine based sterliser. I used the youngs sterliser on mine and made sure to rinse well with clean water is that ok? Surely not using steriliser is worse?
