Trub
I keep getting trub forming in my fermenter.
I use protafloc in the last 15 mins and always leave the brew to settle down for 1/2 hr before cooling. There are signs of trub on the hop bed in the bottom of the boiler but these clumps keep forming in my fermenter once the yeast kicks in.
The beer tastes fine and is nice and clear but it keeps meaning I lose quite a bit in the bottom of the fermenter otherwise it gets sucked into the barrel.
What finnings does everybody use in the boiler? I might try irish moss to see if this makes any difference.

I've only ever used Irish Moss and never seem to have a problem. I did buy some finings but have never used them

I've never used copper finings before, but I will be using Irish moss in my next brew.
This is more driven by my first two AG brews not clearing.
But that could be due to not getting a good hot and cold break.
I'm going to do a rapid boil for 5-10 mins before adding hops, then do a rapid cool with intercooler after the boil.
Do you use any filtration from the boil kettle to FV?
I use a tea strainer and kitchen sieve.
The tea strainer is usually gets full of trub and needs clearing a few times.

Hi, not I have used any filters before. I'm going to try using irish moss today and I will also use a sterilised metal sieve and see if this helps.
I never have any problems with clearing, just lose a load of beer at the bottom of the fermenter which is annoying as I end up with a 3/4 full barrel.
