MTToo much water

1 year ago | MT (Member)

Hi everyone , did my first all grain brew yesterday - Summer ale from this here site . As there was no recipe included in the pack i was shuffling back and forth to the computer to check on various stages . all went well until the end wher i made a monumental cock up by adding too much water . Insted of filling up to the 21 litre mark I filled up to 25 litres !. Is this catastrophic , or can i just expect a more watery brew . Any suggestions for rectifying problem gratefully recieved. {Might be an idea to have a printed sheet in with the pack in future just for us drongos . }

    Dont worry about it mate it will just be a slightly weaker beer (3.2%ish instead of 3.5%), but on the plus side you will have more of it and it will still taste fine

    Conditionin'/Drinkin' - OPA Pale
    Conditionin' - LEB Pale
    Conditionin' - Thwaits Nutty Black
    Plannin' - A user upper!

    Hi MT, sorry to hear that.

    We don't include a recipe in the pack as its a recipe pack for the recipe on the website but your comments are appreciated and its something that we have discussed and will review.

    Your beer will be okay although it will be weaker. You could add some spraymalt or brewing sugar to it if you want to increase the ABV.

    Planning:Maybe a lager.
    Fermenting:
    Conditioning:Pale with Styrians
    Drinking:Cascade Pale Ale, Summer Lightning

    Cheers guys , that's put my mind at rest . Think I'll leave it alone this time as i do fancy tinkering with this recipe in the future and i need a bit of a yardstick for comparison
    I've recently made about 6 kits up all bought from here . Woodeford's kits have been my favourites -Wherry and Nelson's revenge are still not quite ready , but the admiral's reserve is very drinkable and a million miles away from the home brew every student must have knocked up in mucky bedsits. "Home Brew" is a term loaded with negative associations - you really understand this when you offer friends to come round and sample your wares and are met with a faraway look of suspicion .

    Although im young (is 30 young?????) My mum n dad had a go at a few kits when I was really young and they promptly stopped as it was nasty. Last kit I done was a wherry and like you say its a million miles from kits of yesteryear, even the old man thinks so.

    It should be called Craft Brewing like the US were it's considered a superior product. Hopefully the reputation will change as people have a good experience but I think's going to be a slow burner.

    I can honesty say I prefer my home made beers to pretty much anything I can buy.
