nath812To dry hop or not...or what!

1 year ago | Nath (Moderator)

Well peeps the tee-tote-ale recipe has finished at 6.4% and is fairly tasty but I wanna dry hop but only have brewer's gold left. I just wanna bit of a bang with this one as its a high percentage beer and I want an aroma to go with it. Should I :-

a) use 20g brewers gold

b) buy some better aroma hops from greg and do it tommorow

c) do nothing

What do you all think? I quite like the smell of the brewers gold but I know many people only use it as a bittering hop. If I do go for a new hop what do you reckon? Nelson Sauvin, Cascade, Simcoe, urgh..... decisions decisions!

I'd go for Brewers Gold. Use it up.

If it smells nice then its gonna give a good aroma.

    Planning:Maybe a lager.

Well .. I see you've already done it, damn. You should NEVER dry-hop with Brewers Gold, it give a distinct cat's pee after-taste that attacks your taste buds like a sledge-hammer and has an after taste that will last days!

:o) Only kidding, I think its a great idea to use them. Nice one nath!

Well I "samples" a git today from the fermenter and its taste has changed from "hmmmm this could be allright" to "WTF!" I dont think its infected but maybe I wont be using brewers gold as a dry hop in furure! I will barrel in a mo and wait a few weeks, as we all know (and lets say this together)

It'll be fine nath .. when I dry hopped a brew a couple of months ago it smelled and tasted awful when I bottled it - I almost didn't bother. Finished up wonderful .. although I will say, it tasted better young.

There's about 10 million jokes in there and I refuse to say anything!

Well it was only dry hopped for 2 days as I got scared so we shall see. On another note when I was cleaning the fv out I ran water through the hops in muslim and it was amazing. Great smell, lovely green running so I thought I would taste it. Really bitter but not extremely unpleasant! I may keep em and use them as a car freshener!
