saracenThe Norwich Bear Brewing Company

1 year ago | saracen (Moderator)

After reading a post by Neil, I decided to get in touch with the Norwich Bear Brewing Co, based at the Rose Inn at 235 Queens Road, Norwich. It looks quite exciting. I've had a mail back from Dawn Hopkins, the owner and it's reproduced here.

Thanks for your message - we are hoping to have the brewery at The Rose up and running in the Spring, but as you can imagine, there is an awful lot to get done yet! It is our intention to make the brewery operation as open as possible, so would be keen to hear ideas from people like yourself and would be very happy to have you come and have a look (altough it won't be very big!) and even get involved in a brew or two. We would also like to arrange a 'home brew' festival at some point! Keep on experimenting and keep in touch, and hopefully see you in the Spring

I think the Home Brew Festival sounds very interesting and hopefully we can make up a delgation (posse?) to attend.

If you're not living on the edge..... you're taking up too much space!!

Planning: - To get some more brews on now the weather's a bit cooler
Fermenting: - Ginger Beer experiment
Conditioning: - A normal bitter with Styrians
Drinking: - All of it!!

Ok, Nath. You're in. Don't think we quite make up a posse yet. I'm planning on sending them a few samples of my own recipes in the hopes they might decide to sell one. Apparently they would like to do that.

Oh yes....! Looking forward to trundling up there at the weekend to try their Christmas Beer Santa Claws apparently it tastes like liquid mince pie.

I am sure on their website too they're going to let enthusiastic brewers in to the brewery to have a bash and brewing etc.

It really does sound like it's going to be a very good operation.

    Glad you emailed them Saracen...

Yes, Neil, it sounds very exciting. I really must find time to get up there, but with my work delivering Christmas parcels in bulk I'm on the go from 4.00 am to about 6.00 pm. After that, sleep seems to be the only important thing. Early January seems to be the favourite.

Ooooh.. Liquid mince pie. Sounds like you need a dollop of brandy cream with it

I went to a Christmas market in Birmingham this week and had a few winter beers. One of which tasted like liquorice. Really nice but you can only manage one as it gets sickly.

Just a quick update. Spoke to them again and they are very new to brewing and breweries(?). Oh well, should be a voyage of discovery. I asked if I could come along and help them build and set it up, and they reckon they will be very pleased with the input.
Greg: They are planning a Home Brew Festival and I wondered if you might like a presence there.... if it all goes ahead.
