Tesco Demi-Johns - Just Say No!
I'd avoid Tesco demi-johns if I were you
My wife bought me 4 as a surprise. She thought it was a safe option as they didn't need posting.
2 have now failed - cracked round the bottom so that the contents slowly seeps out. They've been washed in warm water, cold sterilized, and only used with air-locks. I can't see that I've done anything bad to them.
I suspect the whole batch got a knock in the Tesco distribution process somewhere.
And Tesco won't replace or refund
I've lost a Cal Con Kit, and now a homemade Blackberry. Such waste!

Tesco In swindon have stopped selling brewing stuff.
I noticed it the other week, and when I went to have a look today. It had all gone.
Sounds like it's not a bad thing either.

I was surprised a few weeks ago to notice my local tesco superstore had a brewing section and had a wide range of bits and pieces on offer.. glad I read this before stocking up!

Tesco Extra stores (ie the huge ones) have a brewing section. Except when they have "back to school" promotions, when it disappears for a bit. So hopefully Swindon's (which is also where we go) will return in a few weeks.
Discovered all this today when the grumpy email I wrote came back with an apology and a promise of a refund after all.
To be honest, I use this place in preference. The prices are the same, and I'd rather support a specialist.
I'm going to pick up a few demi johns next time I pass through Salisbury. The glass just looks nicer than the plastic. (Snob factor!) And I'm not 100% sure about leaving country wines in plastic for months on end. I'm not convinced that there won't be a chemical leech.

Thats exactly what i did. I went to Netto and picked up a 5 litre bottle of mineral water for just £1 and drilled a hole in the lid to fit the airlock. works great.

Also Wilkinsons sell quite a bit of wine making and brewing equipment, depending on the size of the store. Most of it is Youngs and good price too.
And there's one in Swindon.

I got lucky 4 free demijohns from freecycle from a loverly old couple who had given up brewing. They even gave me airlocks and bungs and lots of free advice.
I was actually really happy that there are still genuine people out there who are willing to help someone else out without making a gain from it.They said if i brew anything good drop a bottle round

How nice.
It is good to know that there are people out there without an ulterior motive.
How does freecycle work?

I got back into the hobby, when at my local tip/recyling center a man was walking towards me with a box full of demijohns. So releived him of them and the box of airlocks/tubes/brushes/funnels/bungs/corker and a boots recipe book from the 80's that were in his car! Found this site to stock up on the plastic fementing buckets and yeast/grape juice/additives
