Strainers
Hi guys, recently did my first extract brew, and to my surprise the most stressful part of the whole thing was straining from the pan into the fermenting vessel. I was using a cheapy muslin one with a plastic handle that was really way too small, I continually had to keep washing it out to let the liquid go through faster as it kept getting blocked up. its only about 10 cm across and was thinking of investing in a new one which wouldn't take hours of waiting drip by drip for 6 litres to go through. Has any one any advice for me or maybe to say what they used as a strainer for their brews? Or am I forever doomed to slow mind-numbing Straining!
Thanks
Alex

I got a great strainer from TK Max. The sides extend so it sits across the ferment bin by itself and its big enough to hold all the hops without emptying. Also allows you to hold the pan as your hands are free. Cost about a tenner. If you have a TK max near you then check it out as they may have some.
Before I had that one, I just used a standard metal kitchen strainer but needed someone to hold it and also had to empty half way through as it got full of hops.
I always ended up with nice clear beer without strainer through something as fine as muslin.

I love TK Max.. I can spend hours looking around wondering how I can adapt things to brewing!
(with grateful thanks to the Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers and slightly adapted)

I must admit I hate TK max but the kitchen department does have some good stuff. My family love spending hours in there which is the main reason for my loathing of the place.
