Nice .. very, very nice!
I've got partially used packets of hops in the freezer but couldn't tell you what they are from memory (I'm at work). I use the inventory thing on beersmith and it keeps track of them. Only discovered that a little while ago .... fantastic.
No grain though .. as nowhere to store it.

I too used the inventory thing on beersmith, until my comp died on me! at the mo its a excel spreadsheet, until i get my BS code back!
Thats my plan Greg use up the grains and re-stock! Once the wheat is fermented, I will prob do a single grain pale ale or Steam Beer, then somthing a bit quirky like a heather infused beer.

Is your comp completely dead dan? I'm terrified of losing everything so I keep about 3 backups.
I have to make a steam beer!!! Actually there's about a 100 beers I want to make but my missus has other plans for my time!

Well its the to do with the screen it kind of ermmmm fell off the laptop! i've tried to plug in to a monitor and TV and that doesn't work, next step is to remove hard drive and place in another comp to get info off i priced up a repair and it was near the cost of a new laptop so thats what i've done!

Sure, you can just slave it onto another cable or easier still use an IDE/SATA to usb cable (assuming the other PC has a usb port and operating system). Depends how much you want to spend or course.
Something like this should do you.

Should be able to get for under a tenner on the high street.

Tony - thank you!
The inventory is great, everything I got is logged. Oh yeah baby!
Does it tell you when you are low on items or am I asking too much?

When you design your recipe and then click to say you've brewed it, it will take the ingredients out of the inventory thats about it, oh and it will you can select items from you inventory when designing a recipe and if its not in you inventory you can add it to the built in shopping list!!

I don't know... has a certain ring to it :o)
I don't know what I'd do without beersmith. It's a bit like mobile phones... people of my generation (and older) can often be caught saying things like 'look at these kids with their mobile phones. when I were a lad we had to make plans in advance, we couldn't go contacting people..... blah blah blah'. Similar things are said about the internet, dvd recorders.. et al.
I'm a bit like that with beersmith, without it I'd have to go back to all those irritating calculations, the brewing equivalent to going back to tin cans and string before mobile phones!

Just, wondering, if you have fresh hops is it totally necessary to freeze them. Considering getting some stock together and just need to know how to store it all?
Thanks

keep them away from light, warm temperatures and oxygen mixed with time these are what make hops loose their bitterness/flavour.
For optimum preservation of hops, they should be stored as cold as possible and away from air and light.
Once i've opened a pack of hops I seal the original open pack in a new plastic bag and use my vac packer (£20 from lidl/aldi forgot which one) to get rid of air and seal the new bag, then I chuck them in the freezer. Before I had the vac packer I used to use some of those food bags with the zip on and roll air out.
