BeermonkeySpray Malt & Dry Malt Extract

1 year ago | Neil (Member)

Evening everyone..

Now drinking a bottle of Woodfordes Headcracker so apologies if i don't make any sense alas it wouldn't be the first time.

When it comes to extract brewing i've seen spray malt and dry malt extract. Could someone explain the difference between the two? Or is there no difference what so ever? I'm thinking 2 receipies ahead and in my Brew your own British Ale book this is mentioned quite a bit in.

Hi Neil, they are the same thing. You also get Liquid Malt Extract (canned form) which is basically the same thing but condensed rather than dried. You can substitute the two in recipes but you will need approx 20% less if you are using dried instead of liquid and 20% more if the other way round as the liquid stuff is around 20% water.

    Cheers

Ah i thought they might well be...

So if the receipe requires 1.7KG Dried malt Extract then i can use Muntons Spray Malt and i'd get the same result? That makes sense.

Apologies for these little questions but i need to know these things.. learning all the time that's for sure.

    Thanks Greg
