Speeding up Fermentation?
Hi Guys,
I wanted to know if there is any way to safely speed up fermentation of a wheat beer kit in th FV? The reason being is that in four days I'm away for a while and wanted to have the beer ready and in the bottle before I leave.
This means that when it's ready I'll have just finished all my IPA according to my beer calendar! haha
Due to lack of foresight I forgot to kick of the brew this weekend and family members are unwilling to bottle the beer on my behalf. (not the most fun aspect of brewing)
I know this is a silly thing to try and do but If there are any safe tips I'd appreciate your feedback. If not I'll have to take on the chin and leave if until I return.

How long has it been in the fermenter and how long are you going away for?

Hi Greg,
This is the problem, what with work and everything my first chance to get it in the fermenter is tomorrow and I'm away for the week. (sat-sat)
The more I think about it the more I dont think I've got a cat in hells chance, I think I'll wait till Saturday morn to get it in the fermenter then leave it that for a week.

How long are you away for? The beer will be fine in primary for about 14 days but if you have a secondry fermenter then the day you go slap it in there and then bottle when you come back. You will probably find it clears much faster. I know its a git but dont rush the beer dude! Especially if bottling - BOOM!

Hey Nath,
I think thats what I'll do! Rushing has never solved anything in my short brewing experience! Iam away for 7 or 8 days ish. I will bang it in the fermenter the day I leave and see what it looks like when I get back.
This brew's important as it's going to be ready for my birthday

The beer, especially hopped brew like IPA will be fine in fermenter sitting on a yeast cake for at least month, I would bet even 6 weeks if you have sanitized it properly, and to your surprise, it might even get better this way due fact that yeast have time to clear up after fermentation.

I waited till after I got back before kicking off the Wheat Beer kit.
It smells divine. I love Wheat beer. After a trip to St Austell Brewery a few weeks ago, and inspired by their Clouded Yellow Wheat beer recipe that was shared on the tour I've chucked a load of Coriander, cloves and Vanilla pods in it.
fingers crossed

I'm a big wheat beer fan too. St. Austell Clouded Yellow is more Belgian Wit than Bavarian Weiss bit a nice pint none the less. Any chance you could share the recipe here?. The hop schedule would be of particular interest.
Had a pint of Co-Op Gold Miner, brewed for them by the Freeminer Brewery of the Forest of Dean, with my Sunday roast. Nice beer, a bit like Double Maxim but with a slightly less malty flavour and more hops.

Hello Hamish,
My apologies, When I say I learnt the recipe, I mean as in they detailed the various flavours of Clouded Yellow. To which I added these experimentally to an Edme Wheat beer kit.
Not the real way it's actually made I'm afraid.
An exceptional pint none the less, and a fantastic afternoon out I must say!

My folks live in Cornwall and I go past (sort of) st. austell every time. I really need to have a tour. I hear they do a sort of beer festival in november in the cellar area....Mmmmmmmm St.Austell Reserve.

No worries mate, on second thoughts it would be unusual for them to give away their recipe.
I cracked open one of my full mash wheaties last night, its not fully carbed yet and even though I missed the gravity it tastes fantastic. Very much like the Kaltenberg Weissbier, banana with clove after taste and a lovely smell of banana and fresh grains. When its fully carbonated you'll be hard pressed to tell it was brewed by a rank amateur.
Which kit have you brewed?.

Hey Hamish no Worries,
The Banana and fruity flavourings are what make many Wheats exceptional for me. At University we used to drink a beer that a freind labelled Drunken Monk, however its true name is franziskaner. Very tasty.
Nath, the brewing tour at St. Austell is very good. You get to sample everything on tap and in a bottle more or less. Even a 120% prrof rum! WOW

The Franziskaner is good certainly better than Erdinger but if you can try to get hold if some Kaltenberg Prinzregent Luitpold or some Kloster Andechs Weiss.

I've seen bar staff in Austria pour it like that, some of them can pour two at a time but when I've tried to pour it that way its turned out like this bloke...click

Thats so much better than my attempt. Last time I tried with my robotic arm, the mechano strut fell into the synchomesh of the dsg gearbox and ruined the positive driver of the quantum scholl blade!
Ahhhhh..... You had to be there!
Well impressive though (the vid. Not my lie)
