StarkieSomethings is amiss!

Hello everybody,

I've had a Woodfords Great Eastern Golden ale kit in a barrel for nearly 3 months now.

With a busy schedule at work this summer I almost forgot about it. Now 3 months on I expected, like the last kit I used, it to be clear and amazing.

Instead its cloudy, horrible and a little sweet. The sweetness tells me its not all fermented, but when it was in the fermenter it was lively for a week and a bit and had fermented properly to my knowledge. Is there a rescue remedy for this. should I chuck more yeast in or put it down to brewing negligence?

A pal of mine commented that where I'd been keeping the barrel was quite warm , could this make a difference

Planning - first AG brew
In the Barrel - Golden Ale (woodfords)
In the Fermenter - Elderflower wine
Drinking - Nothing home made

Hmmmmm sounds a bit weird not been knocked around at all?

Just a few things to look out for:-

If your sure it was fermented out fully then adding yeast wont help things. Have you taken a hydrometer reading to see if its ok?

Did you taste any of it at all, can you remember it tasting any different from previous brews?

Decreasing temperature may clear the beer and also hinder some of the tastes but if its that bad then I doubt it would save the beer.

Was the barrel still under pressure and could any air have glugged in there at any point?

Have you carefully opened the cap to see if there is any unsightly growth on top of the beer?

    Best of luck mate.

Drinkin' - nowt, it's all gone
    Plannin'-
Loads a beer after an upgrade!
