beerlover1983Sanitation questions

Right did my first kit on saturday but have a few questions with Sanitation.

I sanitised all my equipment but on the instructions it said to fill the the fv up with water and at the powder and sanitise eqipment in bucket did that all was fine.

However im confused as on the actual packaging for the sanitiser it said to fill the fv up a certain way and swill it around to sanitise.

Im sure that sounds better as it seems wasteful to fill the bucket with 30lts of water just to empty it out again.

So what do people do ?

Further on from that i have since picked up Vidine on the reccomendation on this forums as this is no rinse solution it sounds very good but does it stain or taint the fv due to its colour?

Instructions for cleaning and sterilising 25 litre container

Dissolve 3-4 teaspoons of powder in 10 litres of warm water

Swirl this solution around your brewing bucket making sure contact is made with the sides and the lid

You should repeat this several times over a 10 minute period

If thats what is written on the bottle then I would have gone for that, but im sure all will be ok.

I went with what was in instructions in box foolishly the bucket was filled with water and equipment and the power gave a good mix and left for 10 mins mixing every now and then then risnsed.

Guess ill learn a lesson if the beer is ruined i found the instructions either contradicting or poor so far in this kit.

    Thats how I do it.

I think the important part is that the fluid touches every part of the equipment you'll be using.

I pour in some powder (never measure. More has got to be better right?) into the FV.
    Turn the tap on full.
Chuck in the other equipment, leave for 10-20 mins.
Come back an' scrub anything that needs scrubbing with a green scratchy (copper pipes, taps, beer paddles).
Use a soft cloth on anything that doesn't like scratches (Fermenters, thermometers etc)

Transfer fluid to mash tun, repeat.
    Transfer to HLT/boiler, repeat.

Rinse everything twice with cold water.
Lay small items on aluminum foil.
