BeermonkeyRobinsons - Old Tom

1 year ago | Neil (Member)

Had a bottle of this last night and boy did i sleep soundly.

It comes in 330ml bottles and packs a whopping 8.5% abv. Has nice fruit cake flavours too. I thought it was going to be drinking engine oil but it was surprisingly nice compared to say Woodfordes Norfolk Nip which has the same abv.

Will be looking out for some more of this in the future..

Anyone else tried this?

Yes. It won a World Beer Award last year. There's a Chocolate Tom too but i've yet to taste it. Talking of Engine Oil, I had a pint of Harviestoun Old Engine Oil in Edinburgh last weekend and it was excellent!

The Breakspear triple is a real favourite of mine, for a strong beer it has a wonderfully smooth taste!

Just tried a Old Chocolate Tom. Really sweet and a bit lighter at 6%! It has an amazingly real chocolate taste and would be excellent with pudding. Now for a brewdog to really spank those tastebuds!

Old Chocolate Tom... I've not seen that around. Where abouts can you find that? I might then have to go and get one soon sounds lovely.

I bought a Morrisey Fox Brunette the other day and must admit that is lovely too.

I found it in a little shop in Barlick, Lancashire. Never seen it elsewhere.

Damn... wondered whether it would be nationwide. Mind you Waitrose are usually pretty good at getting hold of different brews. Might cycle down there tomorrow and have a butchers.

There was a list of suppliers on the website. Hope it helps.

I had a Morrisey Fox Blond a while ago and thought it tasted vile. In fact it tasted of nothing really but maybe it was just me.

That Old Tom sounds nice. I'll have to get a trip to asda arranged, especially with the wheat beer sale they have on too.

    Planning:Maybe a lager.
    Fermenting:
    Conditioning:Pale with Styrians
    Drinking:Cascade Pale Ale, Summer Lightning

Bought a bottle of this yesterday on your recommendation... loved it! It's like drinking alcoholic christmas cake, love to know what's in it!
Fantastic brew, will definitely be having more. It may be small (330ml) but it took a while to drink. I'm going to have to research this one and try for it.
    Highly recommended, thank you!
