GazzRauchbier

Hi

I have recently purchased a Brupak Rauchbier mashing kit (cheers Greg) and shall attepmt it for my 2nd AG this weekend. The only problem is that the instructions doest instruct on Hop quantities start & finish.

Should I just dump them all in at the start or maybe take out 10%ish of the hops and 10min boil them???

Any advice is much appreciated

Rauchbier is a bit of an acquired taste, I like it but one or two of my mates are undecided. Would be interested to know how your brew compares to Schlenkerla Maerzen or perhaps Goeller Rauch.

Wouldn't mind a crack at brewing some myself, just need to build the brewery.

I was going to document my brewery build but thought better of it. As its a DIY affair, not sure Greg would approve?

Planning: Vienna lager, Wheat beer fermented with Gutmann yeast, ESB
    Fermenting:
    Maturing/Conditioning:
Drinking: Pseudo-Lager, Oatmeal stout & Shop bought stuff

    Conditionin' - LEB Pale
    Conditionin' - Thwaits Nutty Black
    Plannin' - A user upper!

Dont ever be embarrassed by what you do to achieve the required result, how about using thin aluminium sheet to cover the two rolls on a ringer from an old washing machine to crush malt cos here in nz they only sell it uncrushed!just do it

Otter, love the sound of the mangle crushing the malt! True initiative. My brother resorted to a coffee grinder in Sweden! Thank the Gods for crushed malt - or Warminster Maltings!
