Quick Book Review - Clonebrews (Tess Szamatulski and Mark Szamatulski)
I bought this last week on a whim and I have to say I'm well impressed.
This book provides detailed recipes and 200 commercial beers. Most of which I'd actually heard of! The book is organised into beer styles, lagers, stouts, IPAs, etc., and each recipe has a short intro and some tasting notes. There's also a food pairing comment which I could take or leave.
The instructions for each recipe are based on Extract brewing with a note for Partial Mash and Full AG versions. The instructions are clear and easy to follow. My only gripe is the use of Home Bittering Units instead of IBUs. The difference is explained in the introduction so I'll leave that for you to look at.
There are obvious comparisons with Graham Wheeler's book, but Clonebrews is all about the recipes and NOT a teach yourself to brew book. However, I prefer the recipe details and layout of Clonebrews and they even provide a 1st and 2nd choice of yeast.
If you're an extract brewer already then I would recommend this over GW's book. For AG, it's neck and neck. If you need to learn the basics of brewing then GW's the one for you.
Some recipes in the Clonebrews are Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, Anchor Steam Beer, Double Diamond, Warsteiner and many more. Well, 200 to be exact!
Great book and it's on Amazon Look Inside (other very large, online book suppliers are available).
