possible lager trouble
Hi,
I made my first ever brew with the wherry kit and all seems to of gone well- it’s currently conditioning. However I thought for my second brew I would try a lager to see how they turned out. I saw a comment from someone that said that using Safale US 05 yeast and beer enhancer with the Coopers Canadian Blonde kit made a beer very much like Molson, so thought it would bring back some good memories. I started it on Oct 6th and I think the first reading was 1.038, took a reading today and its 1.018. If I’m right it seems like it’s going to be pretty weak. I was a bit worried about it before because although there was something happening as I saw the airlock bubbling, it never got a sort of foamy crust that I saw on my first brew. Also it seemed to get a layer on the bottom a lot quicker than with the first brew.
Any help would be appreciated.

Ive not used us05 before but if it acts like a lager starin it may not produce a head as lager type yeasts are bottom fermenting. What temp do you have it at? If its under 20c you could up it a little to see if the yeast responds you can also carefully stir the brew to rouse the yeast into action. Just make sure its all sterilised.
US05 does ferment quite low so it may well be stuck.

US05 normally has a huge thick head which last for 8 days or so. It also usually ferment pretty low, usually under 1.010.
I would check the hydrometer tomorrow and see if its still fermenting. If its not then give it a gentle stir.
