ZongoNewbie here, needs advice

Hi All,

I have just started my first batch of brew (a St. Peter's IPA). I had to stick the fermenting bin in a cupboard during fermentation (so the wife wouldn't shout at me!)

So, I now need to move it so I have the space to bottle the brew. So my question is, how long do I have to leave the bin after it has been moved to allow the sediment to settle at the bottom again? I'd hate to spoil my first batch by transfering some of the crud into the bottles.

Any advice would be gratefully received!

should be ok to move it as long as you dont shake it up but I think I would leave it for 24 hours after the move. You will get a little sediment in the bottle anyway from 2ndry fermentation. I have not done the IPA but am just doing the Golden

    5 gal geordie bitter
5 gal St Peters Golden Ale as per tin
    Youngs Harvest Mild
    all a bit moded

That IPA was my first homebrew and I was very pleased with the results.. good choice!

I think as long as you move it very carefully and then give it 1/2 hour to settle it'll be fine, as Peter said you'll get some sediment in the bottle anyway. I always have to move my FV before I transfer out of it and have learnt to lift 23 litres very carefully! If you have the space I would recommend using a secondary fv to bottle from, I find with this you get much clearer beer going into the bottles.
