    Hi All

Just to advise i poured my first pint from the keg tonight. Im amazed, and indeed quite chuffed, at the results. 3 weeks from going into the FV to the pint glass. What took me so many years to decider to do this?

Nice one Bob. Sure beats paying £3 a pint in the pub!

Hi PitchforkBob. Nice to see you here. I often brew beer for friends, and one of them loves his Wherry. No idea why, when I can brew him excellent beer from grain for a third of the price, but each to his own. Woodfordes are great kits and I fine-tuned it to his taste. I make the 40 pint kit to 38 pints, add 200 gms Extra Light Dried Malt Extract to the boil and put 4 gms of Golding Hops into the fermenter while the brew is fermenting. He reckons it's a great improvement. Admiral's Reserve seems to be the one people progress to. I think I'm right in saying this kit contains a 'Hop Teabag' to enhance the hop flavour. If not, then it's Nelson's Revenge.

If you're not living on the edge..... you're taking up too much space!!

Planning: - To get some more brews on now the weather's a bit cooler
    Fermenting: - Ginger Beer experiment
Conditioning: - A normal bitter with Styrians
    Drinking: - All of it!!

    Hi All

I'm about 1/3rd through the Great Eastern and whilst initially it was a lovely brew with a decent body and nice hoppy aftertaste, its now gone very thin and to be honest its starting to taste a little like John smiths smooth (i.e low on taste and body and a little too cold) could it be that im storing the keg in a place where its too cold or some other reason? - any ideas appreciated

yeah welcome mate, happy brewing, yep great forum,
I'd keep it simple to start with and move up when you have gained confidence.
I started with kits and they are very good, just done a few extract brews and very pleased with them.

Hi Pitchfork. From your posts it seems your beer is only a week or so out of the fermenter. Beer changes dramatically with time, and can taste like a different beer week by week. I have never made GE and it doesn't seem to be the most popular Woodfordes kit. I looked up some customer reviews and they all seem to be leaving it in the barrel or bottle for 6, 8, even 12 weeks but the reviews are good. Try it week by week and you will learn from it. It's unlikely anything has gone wrong with it because it beer goes off there's no mistaking it. Wherry is a very popular kit and it you look at my reply above about tweaking it, you can produce a really nice brew. You can always consider the Admiral's Reserve or Nelson's Revenge which in my opinion are the better kits.

Thanks saracen - its been 3 weeks in the keg now, still tastes good but just seems to be thinning out. Your comments re Admirals Revenge are coincidental as i put a batch in the FV this afternoon. after which i might just try the Nelson's Revenge

    Thansk for help
