nath812My new 70ltr Shiney boiler! - Boiler Mk2!

1 year ago | Nath (Moderator)

Well I have taken the plunge and got a stainless steel boiler. Woooooo!

I got it off da' net and just wanted simples until i can afford to add bits.

So it came as a stock pot pot which I could put my 7 year old in and I was gonna cut a hole but instead I took it to work so I had no chance of messing it up.

I fitted a ball valve and made a bendy hop strainer for the moment but I will sort a false bottom soon.

Its powered by mighty propane gas! I couldnt believe the size of burner - 8.8kw of uber power to boil this baby!

And here is a size comparison with my 3yr old son!

The bloke at work can weld stainless steel tubes through the hole so I have asked him to solder a 15mm s/s tube for the tap and at two points for a sight tube (later on). Im uber impressed with it and I cant wait to get my first boil on!

Im gonna use my original boiler as a hlt so I got a 3 tier setup so it wont be destroyed as it was a beast!

70ltr was a good point for me as I have converted to "the other side" of cornelius kegs (mmmmmmmmm) I can get 2 brews without a problem and probably a 3rd (with a larger mash tun). But it will give me easier double brew days I can always split beer between cornies and bottles so all is good.

That was my last surprise.......for now! Just waiting for the third cornie and a s/s mash tun.

Again I could go on!

Conditionin'/Drinkin' - OPA Pale
Conditionin' - LEB Pale
Conditionin' - Thwaits Nutty Black
Plannin' - A user upper!

When you say, "8.8kw of uber power to boil this baby!", you're talking about the pot not the 3 year old?!

When I read 'the bloke at work can weld stainless steel' for a second or two I thought you meant the little fella in the picture, talented for a three year old.

Jeez, that is an absolute beast you have there Nath! Nice buy ! - burner will certainly do the job. I looked at that size and just went for the 5kw burner for my 50L pan but I would have def bought the 8.8 kw for a 70L pan. Bet you can't wait to get a brew on? Gas is certainly easy to use - cant wait to hear how you get on! Plenty of pics please!
    Cheers

    Conditioning - Theakston Old Peculier
Conditioning - Christmas 2010 (Strong Xmas ale)
    Maturing - Peach wine kit
Drinking - Summer Lightning, Summer Wit
